{USERNAME} wrote: I know that leaking feeling so so well. Mine actually popped apart spewing hot fliud all over my impecable blue couch lawn shortly before the power steering pump started singing. Not a good feeling but it is repairable, you can buy replacement nuts with the teflon seal inside and the snap ring too from Ford for about $15. Just make sure that the groove on your hose fitting isn't worn as the whole exercise will be a waste of time. I ended up welding mine and re-filing a nice groove for my setup. Excellent news, thanks banarcus. I was hoping it wasn't a complete line replacement. The pump is currently disconnected so I will dissect the line and see what the groove looks like before venturing to Ford.... Cheers RD

Yep, the system drains pretty quickly while the engine is running - about10 secs for the lot.
Pipe tape certainly won't fix that swivel connector - in that nut you'll see the clip and an O ring. I thought the EB/ED's had a fixed connector hose.

Hey guys
Just to clarify.... on the end of the hose is the knuckle and just above the threads on that is a groove. This then screws into a nut looking thing which is also screwed into a larger nut in the pump. Am I correct in assuming that on the knuckle bit is where the o-ring and circlip should be? .... because there is nothing like that in there. I also assume this is the groove that barnarcus was talking about..... Cheers RD

Ok, a bit more progress on the ole Mont.
As of yesterday around 8:00pm the engine is now in. Rach and I are getting good at this, my daughter reckons 27 minutes So my day was spent connecting everything up and fixing what needed to be fixed. A visit to Ford yielded a new power steering line nut which I had fun installing. Only found out how after the parts guy told me so I broke out the Dremel with a cut off disc in it and set to work. Around an hour later I had replaced the nut and the line no longer leaks. I also found out the hard way that EF plug leads are unique to it as my ED leads didn't fit. My local Supercheap didn't have any standards leads so I had to splash out for Bosh performance leads @ $80.00!!! So by days end I had to to this stage: Since these shouts were taken I have fired it up and let it idle. But that was not without dramas. Initially it wouldn't fire at all and it had me thinking that I had stuffed up the timing. Lots of checks for fuel pump noises etc etc when I eventually looked inside the car for some reason. Lying on the floor was the ECU! I had removed it when we did the welding on the rust spots and I forgot to put the back in. Tomorrow I will finish up the engine related stuff and then will put in the XR springs I picked up yesterday. Once they are done I will reinstall the front panel stuff and then see what happens. Cheers RD

I've got a leak that I've been trying to fix for ages... I had a leak on the power steering pump at the knuckle joint that I was told was the nut on the end of the line. This was on an EF BTW. I went off to Ford and bought another nut and the parts guys told me I needed to cut the end of the nut off just infront of the internal circlip. You see, these nuts have an internal circlip and an internal o-ring. The circlip clips into a groove on the pipe. You have to carefully cut around the nut until you can get it off the end of the pipe. Then prise the circlip off by whatever means you have which will allow you to remove the remainder of the nut. Once the pipe is nut free, screw the new nut into the pump a little ways and then insert the pipe fully into it until it locks. Then do up the nut with a 17mm spanner until tight. The new nut also has a teflon seal that disappears into the pump nut pretty much at the end of the tightening sequence. After all that, you shouldn't have a leak from that area anymore Cheers RD

Well, been plugging away this morning and running the engine for a while to look at temps etc. Looks (actually sounds) like I will need new idler pulleys as well as they scream when I rev it.
And on that, I have the dreaded EF idle hang - on first startup it will sit at 1000 then, in around 1 - 2 minutes, drop back to 650-700. Even with the engine warm it still does it - not good for Rach. Will have to try and search for a solution as have never had this before. I would also like to put EL intake piping on this, the EF stuff is ugly Would I just need everything up to the airbox? Oh, and not happy Jan - got another coolant bottle to get the low coolant sensor. Chucked it in, filler 'er up and the damn light on the dash still flashes. Will now have to install another which means water all over the friggen place And another Oh - when it is turned off, I can hear sucking noises from somewhere, like leaking air. It has a new intake gasket etc and all the vacuum lines look fine. Anyone have any suggestions on where I should be looking for get to the bottom of this? (Not what I thought Ben ) Cheers RD

With the sucking noises (LOL) check the PCV Valve and the breather hose from the rocker cover to the Throttle Body.
I remember being told the EL piping will cause a slight decrease in power, due to it not breathing as well. Not sure if it was true, from the appearance of the EL item and the EF item it makes sense. Doubt it would be noticeable however. With the coolant sensor, pull the sensor out ad give it a good clean up to make sure it is working ok. I'd be checking the wiring too, should start at the plug, head back through the drivers side bonnet loom and in to the cluster through the firewall behind the cruise actuator. Goodluck |

Hmmmm RD.
I think you will need to approach the issue from logical standpoint. Work you way through all the vac hoses, front to back, and from under the car as well. There is obviously a leak somewhere, and as usual, will not be easy to spot. RE the EF/EL piping, it is a proven fact the EF setup flows better. That being said, you can easily fix the EL setup by doing what I had done in my Red EB. BenJ
