Thanks guys

I was thinking booster/master cyl. There is brakes, pedal is soft as and half to 3/4 to the floor. I have a couple of master cyls here and an ED steel booster. In the light of day tomorrow I'll check each wheel for leaks although the reservoir is at the same level as it started with. Oh, and if it was ABS related, wouldn't the ABS light be on?

yeah duh lmao...

The cylinder might not leak even if it is gone, the channels inside can block up, and they fail in other ways too. Shouldn't be too hard to change it over if you have spares.

Hmmm, interesting... me thinks a cylinder change right off the bat may be the way to go......

Master Cylinder is bypassing.
It has the symptons. No obvious fluid leak but the fail light activating due to low pressure and no pedal.
Change the master cylinder for sure.
Dunno if an ED one will fit but. I know the boosters are different between them are the cylinders?

Thanks matey.... might not need it in such a hurry.....

Fired the car up and found that the light is now out and the pedal has returned! So tomorrow I will do a brake flush and run 2 or 3 bottles of fluid through it. After that I will see how it goes.....

Jeez mate that would have to be the worst of all fears for me i reckon, suddenly having no brakes

Hopefully you can get to the bottom of the issue RD, ive had my fair share of brake related issues as of late, have gone through 2 different brake master cylinder's for my EF now and still have a fairly soft pedal that im not quite happy with lol

Seems weird that it all goes back to normal once the car is turned off the started up again hey

This happen to our EL Mont Wagon a while back, Fluid was good, Pumped the pedal, Light went out, brakes built up and no problem since, Odd.

Hmmm, seems strange don't it...... I took the car up to Bunnings this avo and, to me, the brakes actually felt better! If I get time tomorrow, I'll still do the full flush and see what happens after that....

You can pull the ALB fusible link in the engine bay, to find out whether the ABS is suspect.
The 'Check ABS' light will remain on, but the car can be driven normally, as per a non ABS car.

I've had these strange shenanigans with my brakes of late too. On hard firm sealed roads with no hint of slip, I can brake lightly and the pedal goes really soft like the ABS is coming on and other times I can slam the brakes on and it locks up!! Yesterday, my ABS light come on after one such happening and today when I go up the road for milk and bread, the light is gone??

Let us all know what you find RD as I'm very interested.

Ok, a few little issue with this car that I want to sort out as it is Rach's car and needs to be a good as I can get it....

1) The brake issue.... will possibly be sorted out if I get the master cylinder I have booked.

2). Starting.... it will start reasonably well when cold but hates starting when warm/hot. At warm/hot will take anywhere from 2 to 4 cranks to get it going. Any ideas?

3) Dash stuff - even though the replacement BEM cured some weird CC fan issues, the antenna still does not go up and down via the radio or switch. It does work as I have it hard wired to 12V when the car starts. This could be wiring related as sometimes the trip computer "goes out" and a bang on the dash brings it back. Again, any suggestions welcome.

4) A weird rattling noise coming from the rear - LH side I think. Sounds like a shock is loose but it isn't. I have a pair of HD lowered shocks to go in so will see what I find when I am under there.

Aside from that it's just cosmetic stuff to sort out, the major part of that being the paint on the bonnet and boot....

If anyone can suggest possible causes of any of the above, please do so...

Cheers
RD

Hard starting when hot could likely be the coilpack. Check wiring around radio and aerial switch. What sort of radio is in there?

Hmmmm, don't like the sound of the coilpack.... hate changing those :)

The radio is a Sony Xplode or something - it has the blue antenna wire etc. As far as the wiring around the switch, it all looks normal to me. I even tried my switch and nada.....
