Double checked and cleaned both earth points mentioned and no change. Can't find my damn spare pumps and it's too damn hot anyway so will do tomorrow. Cars booked in for aircon at 9:30a so the fuel pump change will hopefully be after that....

Ummmm, if it was firing order it wouldn't be running too well. Not timing either, runs/starts fine cold - hard to start hot was the original diagnosis.

just found this for you, might help

Quote:
Engine won’t start when its hot

Problem: Engine won’t start when its hot.

Diagnosis: Possible fuel injection problem: Electornic Fuel Injection (EFI) system needs to be looked at by a mechanic. Could also be a problem with the cold start injector or Coolant Temp Sensor. Could also be a vapour lock or a problem with the injection module or EFI overheating

Solution: Need to call a mechanic for this, who will need to replace the parts. Alternatively you can open the hood and let the car cool down for a while then try again.

Thanks but...

I should have said - hard to start, not won't start. And the day I pay a mechanic to do anything on any of my cars will be the day the sun goes out :)

Changed the filter ???
The shorting trick I mentioned simply operates the ECU and pump relays like the ECU would.

Read back through the thread, all is explained......

Now, Ben dropped over this avo and said the pump sounds "normal". I am still guessing it may be fuel related because when the pump is kept on via the diagnostic plug it fires straight away. This to me says fuel pressure related in some way. Yes it could still be the pump but could also entail the press regulator. Then again I wouldn't be surprised if it was tied into that weird no action from the key start thing I have experienced as well........ and here was I thinking that this car would be better then the old EB she had.......

Filter is on my list, I thought I had a spare one but don't. Starts first time, every time with the shorting trick....

So the fuel rail may not be getting full pressure normally until a few seconds on startup.

Exactly what I am thinking hence the pump, filter or regulator or a combination of all three......

Got some more done today....

It now has air con - yay! Nice and cold when driving, finally...

Fitted lowered Ultima shocks in the rear. Got these off BenJ a little while ago and finally got them in.

Replaced the fuel filter (twice actually, stuffed the first one by x-threading the front fitting - grrrr). The old one had definitely been on there since it rolled off the production line and wouldn't even drain out the OUT end! Replacing it did improve starting a little bit but I still have to turn on and wait for prime. The fuel pump actually sounds a little better, not as "strained" as it was but..... Am a bit up in the air at the moment on what to do next, still could be the regulator or the pump or even both. Can't find any of my spare pumps so it will have to wait for a bit until I can acquire one.

You get your air con working and mine decides to pack it in. What was it worth getting the Fairmont re-gassed?
