Looks great RD, having two EL donor vehicles here has made the choice to follow your lead on this much easier.
Thanks for the pix, really helpful write-up.
All the best to the family, see you all soon.
Mac

Thanks Paul, it is a good choice I think as it open the door for unmodified seat options. I like it anyway :)

One thing I didn't show in the photos was the rear console mount on the EB thru ED's. That has to come off too so I drilled out those spotwelds, removed it and EVL098 spot welded those closed before we put the EL tunnel in.

Look forward to catching up again buddy, been a long time :)

Cheers
RD

Well, after another visit to PnP I now have everything I need to do my EL conversion....... except the damn dash wiring that is.

I *was* going to get EF Fairmont and do the plug change thing but I am not confident in doing that. So I am still after EL Fairmont wiring or even a whole dash. That would leave me with one cut-and-shut job to do for the NL cluster which I can cope with.

If *anyone* can supply or knows of some EL Fairmont (Fairmont Ghia) wiring or a dash complete, please do contact me.

Cheers
RD

Further progress on stripping the EL today, much better weather for working on cars.

Out today:

* Diff - ready to be cleaned and serviced, well new oil at least, new rear cover gasket plus painting. Would love to have some EL ABS axels to throw in at the same time....
* Rear Springs
* Dash - all ready now for one of those damn elusive EL Fairmont looms - when I can bloody find one!!!!!!
* Heater Box - ready now to have climate control stuff added.
* Steering wheel off - bugger of a job that was!

Tomorrow the steering column and pedal box will be out then on to the brake/fuel lines and fuel tank. Will then set the doors up for electric windows and then remove them plus the rear hatch. Very last thing to come out will be the wiring so I can pull each section out and immediately transplant into the ED.

Getting there bud, should be attacking the ED in less than a week -= yay!!

And no, sorry. I read your post and went out to have a look. The only one I have that you could use temporarily is the EL one but I think the pullies are different due to the serpentine belt.

Yay! I found an EL Fairmont dash loom!!!!!

Macarthur Auto Parts at Narellan have one, are pulling it from the car today and shipping it tomorrow.

I can rest easy now and get on with my full conversion knowing that the only thing I have to do is change the left side cluster connector to suit an NL Fairlane cluster. Happy days!!

That is great news RD.

Re the NL Cluster, you will need to add resistors to the Door Ajar plug or it will flap at you.

Of course the right way to do it is to add the door ajar sensors and add a whole bunch of wires. Lots of fun, but worth it in the end.

Cheers
BenJ

Plans are afoot to add the door ajar sensors, I have 1 and the fuel flap, just need another 3 door sensors and then I'll be good to go.... after I figure out the plug end :)

Ok, I am pretty much done striping the EL. The only bits that are left are those that will be directly transferred to the ED, like the doors, rear hatch, full wiring and a couple of other things. I have run out of room to put things so that another reason :)

I am aiming for Thursday/Friday to drive the ED into the backyard for the transformation to begin. Between now and then I will setup plugs for my NL cluster, clean and "service" the diff, clean and *maybe* weld the K frame seams (if I have time to get it done), swap the front springs over for the Kings Lows I have, clean and paint the engine, add the CC bits to the heater box and a few other things.

Oh, on the CC/heatrer box subject - the blend door motor I got didn't seem to have anything on the drive shaft bit - what is supposed to go between the motor and the heater box? 'Cause I'll need one :)

Getting there....

Cheers
RD

NL Fairlane 16 pin cluster plug is now complete. I moved each wire over 1 slot giving me 2 holes each side (vertically) I then sawed off the extra, cleaned up with a file and sanding on glass as bingo! Clicks in nicely. All ready now to be attached to the Fairmont loom when it arrives.

Off to make the 12 pin door sensor plug the same way :)

Cheers
RD
