You can come for a drive to my place tomorrow to test it. BenJ Today had been crazy around here. Last night after dinner it was raining so I couldn't so what I needed to finish her off. This morning my wife took off to kids baseball at 7:30a and I started my what I needed to do. When I finally got to do the trans fluid I found I didn't have enough so Rach shot down to Supercheap and grabbed me another 4 litres. She then went back to baseball while I went for a short test drive. Then I shot off to baseball at Quakers Hill as well to pick up my son who was playing at Castle Hill at 10:30a. After that, I had to get back to drop my daughter off to a birthday party. So basically my day was shot. Anyway, to the car. ..... Vast difference! Nice smooth changes from the auto and good response from the engine. Great oil pressure and temp, no flat spots. Not as good as Rachs EBII but I suspect that has to do with diff gearing in the wagon vs a car. All in all I am very happy and now the major piece has been done..... that is until I get my full EF/EL engine with BBM & serpentine Now, I just need to do the diff. I'll try as you suggested with the axels but I suspect it is the head due to the way it whines under power whereas bearings would be a rumble.... BTW, did you end up with the "thing" we were talking about? Cheers RD

Well, I got myself a diff. It is an EL, disc to disc. I am paying $400.00 for it. It is out of a 1998 EL GLi wagon with 133,000K's on it.
I thought $400.00 wasn't bad considering that the whole car comes with it The wagon has been hit in the rear so will be my donor car for everything I ever wanted to do to the ED. Will be picking it up next week (hopefully) and planning things from there... Cheers RD

Thats exactly what I told my wife when she complained about me spending another $400 or so for a car. We want a nice travelling cruiser and after I told her what had planned for the ED and what needed to be done, she reluctantly agreed. I should get a bunch of prices for the various bits just to prove my point

Look for Barnacus' thread. He has put an EF/EL Fairmont interior into his V8 ED Wagon, and a T5 too. My Wagon will soon have an EL interior as well. BenJ

Be cool to see the EL Interior done into the wagon. Thanks for the reminder, I should really get some shots of the car for a before & after scenario. I'll get some this week of how it currently sits as a point of reference and post them. I'll just need to be reminded to take progress shots as I go along Now I have a complete later model wagon to use, I have big plans for the ED. Yes, I was always going to do the EF/EL interior thing and an EL engine but it would not have been as intense as it will be now. Basically what I plan to do is gut the ED completely, not only engine, transmission & diff but the entire interior. All wiring will be removed and replaced with EL wiring to facilitate the use of the EL ECU and BBM. Although the car I have bought is only a GLI, every piece of it's interior will be installed. At a later date certain parts of it will be upgraded to Fairmont level, far easier done with the basis being EL versus ED. Hopefully I will also be able to wire the doors for electric windows and anything else that may be needed for the future. Brakes will also be upgraded to EL as well as any suspension upgrades that may fit out of the EL. I may also take this time to fit a trip computer and maybe, just maybe, climate control depending on funds. Outside, EL colour coded door handles will be fitted as will EL wagon tail lights. If the colour of the car is an exact match, I will also fit the EL's tailgate as mine has lost it's clear coat and needs paint. The EL's mirrors will also be fitted. Anything else that adds to the cosmetic aspect of the car will also be completed during this time. The side strips (can't remember what they are called!) will be color coded to the car and hopefully the front and rear bars will have chrome strips. I also want a chrome ED grill to comeplete the package. Also planned but not out of the EL will be tint, Kings lows in the front and 2 to 2 1/2" lowering blocks in the rear. The only thing that will be missing will be decent wheels as my budget just doesn't stretch that far at the moment, that is unless I can find a "good deal" . For the meantime I would be happy with either EB XR wheels or similar. The goal is to have the car wear some nice 17" wheels when the budget allows. I will also attempt to do a basic install of my LPG system so once the car is finished it can be taken to the local installer for hook up. I would like to attempt the wiring as well if I can find the right diagrams as that would also save me money. The time to do all this will come in the upcoming school holidays and I am hoping to do it over a 2 week period. It may stretch to 3 depending on weather as I do all my work outside. My first task will be to totally strip the EL over the coming weeks in preparation for the above. Oh, and a little way off in the future will be extractors, full 2 1/2" exhaust system and maybe a cam - depends on funds and the final driveability. So there we are, the plans are laid and now just have to be executed. Wish me luck Cheers RD
