There you have it. So much for the black.....

Oh yea fiend, thanks buddy! I am lovin' the silver wheels even more now with the tint. I was thinking more of the white stripe in the side being painted but I now prefer the whole thing red with a contrasting strip. Problem is now I have seen another mod I need to do, clear repeaters! :)

Cheers

Go silver. It looks great with the maroon.

The black looks crap.

Silver, and get the Black set so you can strip the paint off and have matching rims for a trailer, thats the ticket.

OK, question time....

To paint the side strips in my colour, what sort of prep would I need to do? I need to learn as I will be doing the same to Rachs car.....

Cheers

Scuff back the plastic strips with a scotchbrite pad.

Apply a couple of coats of Plastic Primer.

Normal paint primer and sand with 800

Colour coat X as many coats as you like and sand with 1200

Clear coat.

Tadaaaa

Don't sand your cardinal red metallic before the clear. Base coats yes if necessary but not a good idea for metallics or mica pearl coats.

Thanks matey

You can't go wrong with a wagon! Some things are a pain like LSD's and seat sets (most around are for sedans) but boy can you fit heaps in them! Just ask BenJ - he took home 4 doors from my EL :)

Cheers
RD

Ok, got *one* of my doors wired up for the door ajar sensors today and should have at least the other 3 doors done in the next day or so.

A question for those in the know re NL Fairlane clusters. Currently the display is flashing the 3 remaining doors and the fuel filler. The boot/hatch is NOT flashing. There is nothing attached to the remaining 5 wires.

With the one sensor all wired up today I tested each wire coming from the cluster. The 4 door displays each stopped as I connected the sensor to them however the fuel flap and boot did not respond at all.

Finally, the question - does the fuel flap and boot work on a different scheme than the doors where using a door sensor to try and trigger them would have no effect? Or does this suggest I have gone wrong wiring somewhere in the plug in the back of the cluster? Or does this even suggest that I have a faulty cluster? Here's a "pictorial" to explain:

Drivers door sensor -> drivers door wire = no flashing on that door display
Drivers door sensor -> pass door wire = no flashing on that door display
Drivers door sensor -> RH rear door wire = no flashing on that door display
Drivers door sensor -> LH read door wire = no flashing on that door display
Drivers door sensor -> fuel flap wire = fuel flap display STILL FLASHES
Drivers door sensor -> boot wire = NO CHANGE IN DISPLAY - no flashing

I have 6 wires coming from the cluster - 1 for each door plus the flap and the boot. My door sensor is grounded to the door and the other wire (for the one that is done) is connected to the cluster.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
RD

Doors/fuel flap: 180 ohms closed/ 1380 ohms open. open cct flaps.
Bootlid/tailgate: 0 ohms open / open cct closed.
As LTD's/fairlanes are sedans, the boot light is a separate cct to the cabin courtesy lights, so the boot line is a simple connect up to.

***BUT****
For the tailgate, run the line past the RH rear door courtesy line connection (near seat belt base), splice into the courtesy light line (black/blue) going to the tailgate.
Cut the courtesy light line forward of this, add a diode in the line. This enables the tailgate to indicate on the cluster, and still operate the courtesy lights. No diode makes any door opened indicate as tailgate open on the cluster.
You'll find the cluster will probably be okay.
