Hey RD.

Your plans sound reasonable and achievable.

Please consult me re high end parts, as I will be able to assist you in that regards.

Thanks Ben

I am hoping things go smoothly given that I don't have to do any cut-and-shut jobs. I should call the thread RD's Budget Build as I too am on a very restricted budget and having this car just fall into my lap was such a bonus.

Thanks to for the info re the high end bits, chat soon.

Cheers
RD

Well, the parts beast is back in my driveway. No dramas at all on the trip, engine & trans purred along - very happy. The EL will now sit for a bit while I do the engine in my wifes car then it will be full steam ahead pulling it to bits.

Cheers
RD

Oh, Forgot.

The only issue I had was no brake lights. We stopped at Morisset to meet Paulmac and pick up some stuff and were right next to an Autopro. I replaced the brake light bulbs and the fuse and still nothing. Searching around under the dash revealed someone had removed the brake light switch! Bought a new one at Autopro but I had no idea how to fit it, so the ultra helpful guy from Autopro did it for me! He sort of made the mistake of saying he had fitted a couple of others so that set the trend.

So a big thankyou to Autopro Morisset, NSW - well done!!

Cheers
RD

Hey RD

Sounds like a good trip. Sorry I couldn't come along this time.

I will try and get over on the weekend. Need to pick up the A/C condensor and boot carpet anyway.

Cheers

Yea, was a good trip this time - way better than the last one in the ED! This car had a bit more grunt and the auto doesn't make noises :) Oh and no vibrations this time round either!!

Give me a buzz before you come over. Kids baseball till 12-ish but home the rest of the day Sat. Sun going out somewhere, not sure when. Rach arranged that :( :)

Cheers
RD

OK, possible "fly in the oinment" on my plans for the transfer. The EL I got is a GLi with no ABS. My ED is a GLi as well but *HAS* ABS.

My intention was to transfer all the wiring from the EL into the ED to make the conversion easier but I got to thinking that if the EF has no ABS, it won't have the wires to run the ABS in the ED. Am I right or will the GLi EF actually have the wires there for the option that was available or will I need to trash this idea and look for the wiring out of a better optioned EF?

Cheers
RD

It probably has the wiring there RD.

However, another option is to ditch the ABS from the ED.

Hmmmm, may be an initial option, I doubt the ABS would be anywhere as good as the Liberty RS Turbo I had :) GOing from non ABS to ABS also has implications of the brake rotors as we discussed the other day. I suppose I will have to wait to see how things lay in the EL.....

I suppose one way to find out before pulling the EL apart would be to look at wiring diagrams for the EL. I don't have any having never had one before so can anyone tell me the best wiring diagrams to get? I have a Ford workshop manual for up to the ED so have been spoilt for detail, if there is anything else close to that I would appreciate knowing about them. Otherwise I may invest in a Ford one again....

Cheers
RD

I think you will find that the EF wont have any ABS wiring.

The bonnet loom is different, I think there maybe only 2 versions.

Aside from the basic one, there is another loom. My Gli has factory ABS, and the loom has the wiring for cruise, abs, coolant level sensor, washer bottle level sensor, climate ambient sensor etc.

I believe there are only 2 versions as otherwise they surely wouldnt put such an extensively-wired loom into a GLi with just one option.

The loom from a futura/fairmont should be ok. Id say this is the best option as you keep abs.

Hmmm, I may be lucky then. The EL has wiring in the bay for cruise and coolant sensor at least, haven't checked the others yet. Maybe there is some difference between EF & EL, I'll find out soon enough....

Cheers
