RD, that is exactly the same system that I have on mine. It should sound similar volume wise, possibly a bit louder, as I found the extractors made it a bit quieter.
Cheers BenJ

Cheers BenJ Ah, good stuff - I like the way yours sounds. They should sound pretty similar when I eventually get a set of extractors then. When I do, I'll be swapping cats with Rachs car - mine has a standard EL one on it, hers has a smaller Redback cat. That way, I'll be all Redback aside from the extractors

Go for it RD. Makes all the difference. When I fitted mine I found and improvement in the note as well as performance.

They were on my list as future mods but now I have the 2 1/2 they have been bumped up. I'm squirreling money away now for when the "right" set comes along Just have to remember to factor in the cat too!

You cheeky bugger, I wanted those doors from Medowie!! BTW I had that system on my V8 minus the rear resonator. They sound good and deep. Good choice and good price too!

Well, the ole bus will be getting a bit of TLC this weekend if all goes well. The list consists of:
New front Ultima 1.5" lowered front struts New upper & lower ball joints New front brake pads New tie rod ends Fitting a speed sensitive steering rack ex EL Fairy Ghia New rear Ultima 1.5" shortened shocks Rear springs re-jigged to lower the back without lowering blocks New rear brake pads Finally proper handbrake adjustment Fit the EL Fairmont Ghia RH engine bay wiring I have aquired to give me a complete my wiring requirments. If I get time (and the inclination) I may fit the XR6 axels I have for the future addition of ABS whenever one becomes available. All this is timed to start Friday and continuing across the weekend. Should be no probs as far as I can figure When it comes to the rear springs, I will try and remember to document the process incase other wagon owners are interested in doing the same. Off to buy everything I need tomorrow.... Cheers RD

Sounds Good RD.
I really want to revamp the front end and shocks in my wagon too. I look forward to the results of your leaf spring hi-jinks. Cheers BenJ

You would, your as bad as me with bits lying around Not quite ready to buy ABS systems, have just managed to convince Rach I need all of the above bits. Just out of interest, the ABS wouldn't be EL would it?

The bolt through the middle of the springs where your axle sits? I think I used a 8mm threaded rod with nuts on spring washers at each end as the original ones were so badly corroded I could not get them apart to service each leaf individually.
RICKS EF WAGON put me onto the idea of using the 1 tonne leaf springs out an old truck, which I did -- However I noticed that the EF wagon top leaf has an elongated front mount, like a long oval, filled with compressible rubber bush, where as the old 1 tonner's only had a circle shaped bush. The shape of the top spring was similar enough so I ended up using the top spring from the EF wagon and the bottom six from the one tonne truck. This meant pulling them all apart. Come to think of it - I got a few different diameters of threaded rod and bolts as I was not sure which would fit myself. I remember them as not fitting and I had to use the thinnest ones... Could have even been 6mm. Not sure now. Sorry... Damn, what a unhelpful message this is turning into. You do need the bolt through the middle to stick out about 10-15mm and have a couple of nuts on it so that it locks into the rubber hole in the middle of the top and bottom sandwich plates that the U-Bolts go through and the shocks bolt to. Without this being in position there is a possibility you will have some trouble getting the rear wheels pointing directly forward You'll be right mate. Put car on block of wood wherever you can with retaining access to the front leaf mounting bolts (those big 17 or 19mm headed things) and the diff is still pretty heavy with all the brakes and driveline still attached, so make sure you put some jacks or something underneath the axles and lift the axles off the springs (!! sorry for stating obvious, but when working by yourself it pays to make things easier at the beginning !!) Once again, sorry for stating obvious (or would be obvious once you start...) Like you say --- Just grab a lot of "spares" or "options" before you start doing the business. |
