Well, I went to PnP today to get my EL Fairmont wiring. There was only 1 EL so I set about pulling the dash out. Once I had it out, I started disconnecting all the plugs and as I was doing that found that some burke had cut a massive section out of it. Talk about p****d off :(. I did get all the door wiring, the plug/wiring segment for electric window switches in the consol plus some of the bits I need for the climate control install.

My climate control stash consists of the vacuum control solenoid with lines, the fan speed controller and part of the wiring. The ambient air sensor and sunload sensor were missing plus I couldn't get to the blend door motor.

There was a whole EF Fairmont there but I understand there are differences in the dash wires. Can anyone tell me how different an EF & EL Fairmont's wiring actually is?

Today I also picked up my chrome grill from HP Hungry so that will go on later as mod #1.

Anyway, now I still have to find some EL Fairmont wiring and will have to keep tabs on PnP for when they get some more in. Still not happy......

Cheers
RD

Not a good day at Picka nd Pay more by the sounds of it. I was down there too ratting around. I found a Q1 EB bonnet that the paint was not much better then mine went up to organise getting it and they wanted a hundred bucks!
Stuff that looks like Ill get what ever and just paint it.
Good luck RD!

Yup, they want an arm and a leg for some stuff there. Considering they buy them for stuff all it must be a killer margin.

What annoyed me about my trip is that they have a ton of GLi's and Futura's but only one Fairmont. Plus they had no later Fairlanes for me to pilfer bits from, bloody inconsiderate :)

The damn rain has stopped me putting my new shiny grill on, damn it.....

haha your not wrong about the bad day at P&P, we went to the one up here in brisbane and scored a full AU C2r bodykit, bonnet, grill front bar side skirts and rear bar for 500, paid the 150 deposite told them to remove it for us and we will go grab the rest of the money, returned to see someone driving off with it in a trailor and the doped C*NT behind the counter resold it... so my mates going in there tomorrow morning to rip him a new a**hole. the guy wreckons he can get another kit, but this was in the same colour as my mates car, so they have alot to do to make my mate happy..

sorry for going offtopic

I can tell you from experience RD that one thing that you should never mix up is your climate control controller and vacuum soleniod. These are PAIRED devices. I recently fixed mine with help from Macca as I had a EF1 controller and an EF2 solenoid. Nothing worked properly. The fan speed controller, blend door motor and sunload are all the same between models though. Good luck with the rest of the wiring but remember that the more you swap over, the easier the job is overall :)

Aha, thanks for that banarcus. When you say paired do you mean EF with EF and EL with EL or are they specifically paired by car. The solenoid I got was from an EL Fairmont.

You're right about the wiring swap. My plan is to totally strip every piece of wiring out of the ED and replace it with the EL's wiring, adding Fairmont dash wiring along the way.

It is about this time I wish I had a Fairmont wagon as I would like to include the cabin and engine bay wiring from one of those to make it really simple. Still, I have the basics and running a few extra wires shouldn't hurt - it is all a learning experience.

Cheers
RD

I mean what I wrote, that is, I bought a EF1 control module and bought a EF2 vac solenoid. Both were incompatible. As for EL, I tend to believe that you should source an EL control module to suit your EL vacuum solenoid. Maybe there was an EL series one and two but may not have the same issues as the EF series where Ford made this change.

Cool, no probs - I'll make sure that the in dash bit is EF as well. There seems to be a number of differences between the EF & EL, it's like the EF was the experimental version for the upcoming EL!

First mods done - yay! Not much in terms of others but hey, I am working slowly :) Pics later if needed....

I changed over the EL tailights this morning so I would have a couple spare for huggiebear if he wants one.

Yesterday I installed the chrome Fairmont grill I got from HP Hungry, looks much better now in the front.

The big stuff will start oonce I get rid of the Blue EB I have sitting here, hopefully in a weeks time.

Cheers
RD

Well, I decided to swap the front seats out of the EL and hit a road block. Not knowing the seat mounts were different I pulled the drivers seat out of the ED and then proceeded to remove the drivers seat from the EL. Only then did I discover the difference.

ringatsinga had some spacers made up so I will probably do the same. Other than that I may get adventurous and make up new seat mounting positions and weld them in. Just have to find someone with a Mig I can borrow :)

Live & learn.....

LOL! No velour here, bog standard GLi. Besides the drivers seat is shot.

I want options later on so the modified mounting points will probably be the go. Initially the EL GLi seats will be going in but a ways off in the future I would love some NL leather.....
