replaced the first plug today (repco only had one in stock), and it looks good so far. they will get the other one in tomorrow... so hopefully have functioning headlights by about 4:30pm tomorrow... YAY!
hopefully they stay that way, and this melted plug isnt just a sympton and is actually the problem... o well, i guess i will find out soon i guess...

Headlights are all fixed and looking heaps good. It's nice to actually be able to see where I am going for a change... Lol
Had a look into brakes after getting some good advice from papa smurf (as always very much appreciated)... will put up the details tonight, but... $154 for stock upgrade to BA gear $360 for DBA AU upgrade Or $460 for DBA BA upgrade That's DBA T2 rotors with DBA RST Sticky pads... Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated... Cheers

I got my ba calipers for $50 with no leaks lines included 2nd hand, still better condition than what came off the au. The rotors I used were the ones I took off the BF when I put ebay $140 cross drilled slotted rotors on it. Machined and back on a lighter manual car and the standard ford rotors have warped again. The ebay cheapies outlasted them. Best thing you can do is not use ford rotors
The ba has the bigger diameter disc and is definitely the pick of the two. run ebay cheapies till you can afford dbas if you're not happy with them. For that price though I wouldn't mind replacing them once a year.

So you think BA sized DBA setup?
It's $90 each rotor for T2, $90 each for the RST sticky pads and $50 each for the calipers from a wreckers... $460 all up.

I doubt you will be un-impressed. $500 for a decent brake upgrade is a good deal. You will be happier with the bigger discs. Did George inform you about the master cylinder? I think theres an upgrade but it may only be if you're going from series 1 brakes. not too sure.

Will have to enquire about that one... But from what I've read/been told, the AUII master cylinder should be able to handle it... But definately worth a check lol

I kept my master so it does work. some people say you loose pedal feel. I've read a few mixed comments. I've found mine more responsive on the initial touch (grabs quicker) but for firmer plantings require a little more effort. Which as far as I'm concerned gives you a little more 'feel'
does your uterus have abs? I've got a d1cky abs sensor and I've found it to be quite rowdy under brakes without it lol. Never been a fan of abs untill I got the ute.

Sounds good to me, and yeah I would say that would be more 'feel'... I'd be more then happy with that.
Yeah it does thank god, had to use it today. Came around a bit of a blind corner in an overtaking lane doing 110km/hr... BAM... Backed up traffic... Smelt the brakes for the next 20min... Need to give all the sensors a clean, another good bit of info from George, when I change my rims/brakes...

hopefully that's all that I need. I used to be a big hard non-abs man untill I looped the ute a few times under brakes lol. Never a problem in my sedans. I noticed the ford utes don't use a load sensing rear master... I believe they do in the 1 tonners though. This is a good setup when working properly.

yep and without being able to increase the gvm brings me back to selling the ute. xr6 ute is a 2door falcon sports car with poor balance, not a work ute. Having said that it does handle well for having leaf springs.
I need a 1 tonne work ute, plated so. The XR doesn't cut it. Is yours a tonna ?

I know what you mean about the utility sports vehicle... They are somewhat challenged as a real work ute.

Don't get me wrong, the loads my utes towed would leave alot of land cruiser owners shamed. It's just for business purposes I need it to be one tonne rated. And it is not. Even though more than capable. This is where the new car maket is headed. The nissan navara has pretty much the highest tow rating for a 2wd uterus on the market. Where has ford had their head? I have no doubts why they're going down the gurgler sometimes.
My utes towed off road race cars all over the countryside to many different altitudes, many different loads, many kms. It's still the fastest rig I own. Still pulls harder than my barra 190 in a sedan. The au's, as ugly as they are, were a good rig.

Well when put like that I agree with you. I have towed my fathers 17ft fibre glass boat with my old RTV... Did it easy, though was a bit bouncy if you know what I mean. Ford needs to just like at the simple things and get those right to start with... Instead of trying to re-invent the wheel...
And yeah they are ugly as s**t, but that's why I love it... It's rough around the edges but it gets me from a to b... Along with whatever I see fit to throw in the back...

I love the look of the AU... XR/T series anyways.
I actually like the headlights on the standard, just not the grill. The series IIIs look nice. As for the towing capacity, it's interesting, really. The manuals are rated to tow less than the autos, more because of the clutch than anything I think. I don't use my ute as a real work ute, but it's useful for anything I've ever needed to carry (and been more than capable) I've had probably around 300kg at most in the tray, but I've never even been able to feel it hold the car back As for how it handles, couldn't agree more. I love the AU |
