Howdy Guys,
As my user name suggests, my name is Simon! I am a first year electronics apprentice here in good old Adelaide and have been messing with falcons for about 18 months now, my first car being an ef gli.

So, onto some more about 'The Beast'....

I picked up this car a couple of months ago from fellow fordmodder 4.9 EF Futura here in Adelaide. It had been regency defected for height and had been off the road for around two years. He had also had it supercharged, however he sold the super charger kit after getting it defected.

Link to the original for sale thread: http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... highlight=

Here are some pics I took just after we got it back to Matts

Part One - Getting it back on the road!
The first step of this project was to get the vehicle to a standard where by it was able to pass an inspection at regency (Transport SA's Vehicle inspection center).

To do that, the following work was carried out by myself and fellow fordmodder MadMatt, This is what we did prior to having it inspected...

-New power steering pump - Cheers Tezza393!
-Radiator hoses replaced
-Radiator replaced
-Harmonic balancer bolted back on
-New serpentine belt
-Front Seat Belts
-New heater tap
-Boot release
-Rear trailing arms
-New brake pads front and rear (Bendix ultimates front, General CT rear)
-Rotors machined
-Wheel bearings replaced
-Steering rack rubber boots replaced
-EF Fairmont seats
-Tail light replaced
-The usual Oil, filter, coolant and so on....
-MAF - cost me $155 grr
-16" FTR's fitted with new tyres
-Baffle put in the exhaust to quieten it down :)

Most of the parts were purchased, however items like the seats etc, came from a donor ef fairmont purchased from pickles auctions

The end result was this....A now registered 5L V8 EF Futura!

As soon as the car was registered, it was dropped off at exhaust plus prospect for a nice new exhaust to be fitted and the baffles removed!

I am kicking myself for not taking more pics as the work on the car progressed, especially some decent before and after shots!

More to come....and more piccies!

Part 2......what happens after its registered!

Climate Control + Full Fairmont dash conversion

I have had all the parts for a complete dash change and climate control conversion sitting around for some time now (approx 12 months), since Matt, Nat and I first wrecked this ef fairmont in this thread.
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/1-very-d ... 12-20.html

So, starting at about mid day yesterday I started going through the process.......Unfortunantly I didn't take any pics of the dash out, however I have some of it partway back in.

End result, was a ef futura with a fully functional fairmont dash - Climate Control, Trip Computer, Full cluster, Fairmont BEM ect.

The dash I installed was also a dual airbag one, so I have also gained that as abit of an added bonus.

Piccies:

I guess I should crap on abit about what else is coming for this girl.....

The next major thing to be done to it is going to be a gas conversion......70c per L is too good to pass up! So with it on gas, its going to be time to make it go fast on gas! Usual mods to a point...

The next thing that will be done as soon as the gas gets installed will be lowering......Not too low, but enough so it doesn't handle like a boat! Will probably just go for some nice pedders springs and kyb shocks for the moment.

So, heres a basic list of a few things that will be coming in the not so distant future.....in no particular order!

-Gas Install 25/6/2008
-Finish fairmont interior (rear power windows, door trims)
-Suspension work
-Make the engine breathe abit better (GT40 heads and Explorer manifold) when I get the cash together
-Wheels (17's or 18's)
-Diff - Not sure which way to go with this...
-Front end - Might stick a monty nose on it given I have one in the right colour; or will wait for an xr nose to pop up.
-Stereo - Usual bits and bobs
-Crate engine fresh from the states! (yeah, I wish.....maybe one day)
-Tickford sideskirts or similar
-Few other random bits and bobs

Well the dash is all back in and everything is working! Climate control works a treat, now I just need to get the aircon regassed!

Need to continue fitting the rest of my fairmont bits and get the body loom swapped over to a fairmont one before it goes on gas....otherwise it will be abit of a mongral to fit!

Will update this post with some piccies tomorrow!

Eyeing off one of these engines.....Mmm, 4 bolt main boss block based 302! The way the dollar is looking at the moment, great time to buy one.....looking at the middle one http://www.fordracingparts.com/crateeng ... lblock.asp

could have saved a lot of time and wouldn't require a regas if you kept the old heaterbox in.

eitherway, nice work

I believe it needed a regas anyway.

On a more serious note.....

The car is running with around 30 degrees retardation, however due to a C**k with something to do with the computer we have been unable to advance it any further than we already are.....or the computer chucks the s**t with us.......somethings wrong somewhere and I think a megasquirt is the easiest way to solve it!

IIRC 5l windsors factory timing is set to 30 deg BTDC advancing it 2-3deg should net a few extra kw. dont forget to you want to adjust the base timing. to do this the car has to be in diagnostic mode

Those Afr's seem to be shot to s**t.

I would recommend getting a diagnostic on it, it is running way too rich after 3500-400 rpm (judging by the graph).

I stockish figure should be around 125 rwkw. Give or take abit but the power curve should be more linear than that, especially the nast hole.

Good work though!

You can see where the power stops climbing is when all that extra fuel is getting dumped in there. As schnoods said, get a diagnostic check done and you'll probably find o2 sensors are well past their use-by date... That'd be my guess

Is the motor internally stock? Like did the guy just slap the supercharger on with no other mods?
But yeh, it looks like its choking on fuel.
