Thanks Snap, I think I'll just have to tighten the cable a bit more to put the bearing in continual contact and see how that goes.
As an aside, I noticed for the last week, week and a half that the Ute seemed to be getting a bit hotter than normal. The gauge was getting to the high side of the normal area, especially when in traffic, and if i pulled up somewhere when it was warm it dumped a bit of fluid out of the overflow pipe. Highway driving and normal 70-80 klms cruising was fine, just when in traffic or working a bit hard. I had a good look at it this weekend, and the coolant was a bit low, but i couldn't find any leaks. While i had it idling as I was topping it up, i realised the fans weren't coming on. Odd, so I checked around and noticed they weren't even plugged in. I must have missed that when I did the clutch stuff two weeks ago.  Gotta love a good cooling system that doesn't badly overheat even with no fans!

Yeah, don't tighten too much Mate.
Clutch pedal should roughly be in line with the brake pedal - 140mm from the floor from memory.

Yep.
 But conveniently you can unbolt that stuff, and fit the XH stuff to the engine so it will run with the XH ECU. So that's what I did. I cbf changing too much wiring, etc.

OK, so the CSA Prowlers are about to be retired. One has a small crack in it, where the spoke joins the rim, and it is leaking air thru the crack. I could fix the leak, but the rim is not safe, so it's time to add them to the pile of crap I can't use....
 I'm looking for another set of 17x8's so I can re-use the tyres I have, anyone got anything decent going cheap?  My other option is to use a set of 17" steelies off a Territory. I can get a set pretty cheap, less tyres, but I have been told conflicting info as to whether these will fit the ute. I do not want to use spacers, I'm hoping they will just bolt on and I will be able to use the 235/45/17's that I have. Can anyone confirm that these will fit? I'd love to see some pics if possible. Have a look at boostcruising.com.au forums. When i got a set of 17" Roh RTs for my XH there were two sets for sale at the time in Bris, both at under $400 with tyres. The ones I got are sweet and the tyres went for nearly 60,000kms.
They seem to have a lot of 114.3 stud wheels cause they use them on Hiluxes and Supras and other things that they like over there. Every lowered Hilux with tint and big unit/loosekid/famous/metalmulisha stickers has Territory rims, personally I wouldn't go that way if I had a choice. |

Hi Thomas,
The steel wheels aren't my first choice, but i can get a set cheap without tyres, and use the tyres i have now, so it wont cost a lot, and will still be safe and handle OK, better than a set of 15's with 215/65/15's on them.  Can you tell me if the territory rims fitted OK without spacers? Any pics avail? Cheers.

Nope they wont fit.
The rear you will get away with but the front will be AU offset so will hit the EL style suspension.

OK, so the search still continues for 1 (or 2) 17" x 8" CSA prowlers, no luck yet. In the mean time I took a chance and had the cracked rim welded up. A co-workers partner was able to do it cheap for me ($60) and it has come out pretty good. I would still like to replace it with a better rim, but for now it'll do.

I have been on the lookout for an AU bellhousing for the ute since I fitted the AU engine. The E-series bellhousing works OK, but I would like to fit the two lower bolts, plus the clutch fork is on it's way out, as the bearing locating pins are almost worn away, and the pivot point in the bellhousing is very worn, and I reckon this causes the rattle I have been getting in that area. So I looked on EvilBay the other day, and saw an AU bellhousing with fork for $30.00! I thought it must be a typo, but it all checked out and was only 1/2 an hour from home. I zipped over after work, and when I got there I found I was buying not just a bellhousing, but a near new fork with bearing, flywheel, clutch and pressure plates. All for $30.00! Gotta love that.

The ute is still going strong (touch wood) and gets driven almost every day. I fitted the AU bellhousing, clutch, etc a while back, so thats all good now. It needs a new exhaust system, but for now it'll keep.
Nothing much has changed, but i'll try and keep this more up to date as changes occur. Cheers,
