Nope they are all moving down here in Adelaide, see Victorians everywhere lately, and I'm one of them :).

Know how you feel with a slipping/rough trans, mine does it too, hoping a pan drop and a filter and cooler will help it...though not getting hopes up etc, have a au engine also :), kinda holding out to put it in until I get a good t5 to put it in with or even when I get a xh ute also, decisions decisions :).

I have an excellent EF bodyshell along with a full fairmont interior which I never got around to finishing.

Quick update - The EL is now AU powered!
And it has an AU trans!
Most of the job was done on sunday, just need to finalise a few connections, check out a power steering leak, and she should be right to fire up.

Pics and more info soon.

Cheers,
8-)

OK, so it didnt fire up yet.

We have connected everything, rechecked everything, tried a different coil and TFI module and dizzy, but all i have is power to the coil, and no spark at the plugs. All the earths are connected, so what have i missed? Smartlock maybe? Will try the Smartlock re-learn thing and see what happens.

Fvck i hate chasing electrical problems.

Cheers,

The relearn won't help as that is for the remote central locking.

Did you change the key barrell at all as that will need a relearn to match it to the smartlock module.

Otherwise, do you have another ECU to plug in?

Cheers

If you changed the BCM you will need to do the relearn as well.

Oh, OK.
No, i havent changed anything, and everything is plugged in as it should be. I've got a new coil & TFI module to try, but other than that, any other ideas?
Cheers,

OK, it runs!

I replaced the TFI module and the coil, swapped to another distributor, tried another ECU, but no spark.

We tried the original ECU in another EL, and it ran fine, so that eliminated that issue.

We then removed the top half of the BBM, and removed the engine wiring harness, and tested every wire and connection, but all tested up fine. I also took the opportunity to fit the AU injectors, while i had the fuel rail off.

We then re-assemled everything, and now we have spark. :?

Refitted the old dizzy with the new TFI, re-timed the engine, and she started and ran fine. Still dont really know what was wrong, but it starts and runs, so i dont care.

I still have to fit up the a/c, thermos, etc and check fluids and stuff, but it was a long day, so it'll keep for now.

Cheers.

sound like a dodgy wiring connection. you will never know which one since you removed a refitted virtually everything in the engine management system.

OK, time for a long overdue update.

The wagon has been going well (touch wood) since i fitted the AU engine and trans last year. It had a few little teething issues, mainly listed above, but other than that it's been going fine. I have noticed a bit of a bottom end rattle coming in when it's cold, but as the engine was a freebie, and no one knows how many k's it has actually done, i'm not complaining. I have sourced another engine for it, with only 125k's on it, so when i get the time (and enthusiasm) i will swap it out.

Recently i scored an NF Fairlane (less 5.0 & auto) for a to-good-to-miss price, so the wagon will get a full dark grey velour interior. I would love to fit the full 'lane dash, with the climate control, but i really cant be buggered. I'm thinking i'd like to use the instrument cluster, and a few other bits, and just upgrade the standard EL Futura dash. My question is, will the NF V8 cluster plug & play with the EL 6cyl? I would also like to use the 'lanes interior light, elec windows, courtesy lights, intermittent wipers, etc. Will all this stuff plug in, or do i need a different BCM, or anything else i need to do?

I was hoping to fit the 'lane bonnet and front bumper, but there both screwed. The grille, headlights and front guards are still OK. I have a good EF front bar and bonnet. Are these the same? Will the NF grille fit the EF bonnet?

Any advice on what else i should pirate from the NF while it's there?

Cheers,

Grant. 8-)

My question is, will the NF V8 cluster plug & play with the EL 6cyl?
EF/NF/DF clusters are the same for 6 and 8 as far as compatability is. To fit the NF Cluster to the EL, you will need to adapt the wiring as the EF/EL GLi/Futura/Fairmont/XR clusters are 2 plug and the Fairlane/LTD are 3 plug. You can get adaptor wiring off a guy on EBay. I did and it works well.

I was hoping to fit the 'lane bonnet and front bumper, but there both screwed. The grille, headlights and front guards are still OK. I have a good EF front bar and bonnet. Are these the same? Will the NF grille fit the EF bonnet?
I assume you are talking about and EF Fairmont bonnet/Front Bar. If you are then they are the same for EF/EL Faimont, NF/NL Fairlane, DF/DL LTD. If you are talking EF GLi/Futura, no the grill won't fit.

Thanks SWC - very helpful. 8-)

So, how about putting 'lane cluster into the XH? It's an XH2, if that helps...

Cheers, 8-)

OK guys, here's a question for you. I need to know what this colour is called.

Other than butt-ugly, I have no idea. I know I can look for the colour code on the ID tag, but I'm at work and it isn't, so see if you can figure it out. It's a weird colour, that's for sure.

Quick update - I put the wheels from the 'lane I wrecked out on the wagon. Looks better than the old NA wheels, and drives a bit nicer too.
