Hey guys, thought I'd drop a line to show off my DA LTD I just picked up on Wed night!
Needs tyres and a hole in the muffler fixed (just an excuse for the 2.5" sports system!) and a little surface rust in the boot lid for RWC! Already got the tyres sorted, as I've got my EBII Fairmont that's been crashed, with mint wheels and tyres Got a bit of cleaning to do, but I think she'll come up well And the wheels that will be going on there: Future plans after it's reg'd are a few minor performance mods like headers and exhaust (exhaust will be done before RWC), maybe a custom CAI setup and lowering. Overall I wanna make it a neat clean cruiser. I'll be updating more pics and info as the work progresses. Cheers, Spud. Last edited by Spudley on Mon Apr 05, 2010 10:17 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

ok, so started on the rust repair tonight, boot lid now has spots of primer, front drivers door is left with K&H fiberglass filler until I do the last coat of finishing bog, then primer and paint.
sorry for the amount of pics, got a bit snap happy {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} Front drivers' door, rear corner ^^^ {DESCRIPTION} Front drivers' door, front corner. The worst of the rust ^^^ {DESCRIPTION} After fiberglass filler ^^^ {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} And a random for good measure This was my 1st time with the fiberglass filler, and I found it incredibly hard to use, as it all sticks together. However, it does have the advantage of being stronger and won't rattle out like normal bog, especially when using it in rust holes. Just gotta make sure you cake it all on, and have your sanding arm ready! I'll be using some finishing filler over the fiberglass bog in the door and puting some primer on tomorrow night, weather permitting... til next time, Spud |

Looks great!!!
Get yourself a small detail electric sander. Makes short work of the Fibreglass bog if you use 60 grit pads. Cheers BenJ

Thanks for the tip BenJ, I'll keep an eye out for one...
When I get home and if it's not pissing down rain i'll be getting out the finishing bog and 400grit to finish that drivers' door In other news, I should have my EBII Fairmont back from the insurance company (that they're not covering!) long story, lol, hopefully tomorrow!! That means I can get the wheels with roadworthy tires off it, and onto the LTD, as well as some other bits n pieces! Also, misk_one should be dropping off some superlow king springs at work tomorrow, but they'll have to go in after it's reg'd, as all my funds have to go to the RWC/Reg at the moment.. I'll keep you all posted with any updates... Cheers, Spud. |

OK, little update here, last night I spent ages cleaning out all the freaking gunk under the rocker cover!
I seriously don't thnk its ever been done, and i wouldn't be supprised if the oil wasn't changed until every 10,000-20,000 kms! This gunk was rediculously thick, and i'm actually supprised it even ran! lol And no, it hasn't blown the head gasket, the white milkyness is condensation from the previous owner only driving it 2kms to the station each morning, and home at night. Therefor the engine wouln't have time to heat up and build up condensation. I did some research, and this seems the most logical answer, as it's not driving like its done the head gasket, and not loosing fluids. I actually flipped my s**t when I saw how bad it was, but then researched it, and that's my conclusion anyway. I'll be keeping an eye on the fluids just to make sure as well. Last night also entailed an oil and filter change, used 2 bottles of Nulon engine oil flush, ran the engine for 30mins then drove it round the block, some Nulon synthetic as it has fantastic cleaning properties, and a Ryco filter. heres some pics of the gunk, I was too messy to touch the camera after cleaning it, so no 'after' shots atm... and as usual, one for good measure I'll be spraying the rocker cover probably after it's reg'd and i'll post some pics once all done. Hopefully i'll spend sunday cleaning and degreasing the engine bay, making her look all schmicko. Planning on removing the airbox/snorkel and cleaning as much as I can, cos can't get far down with it all in place. cheers, spud. |

Thanks XFWAG, i'm hoping she'll be ready for RWC with next pay on thurs, and rego'd the week after
My falcon rear superlow king springs arrived yesterday and will be going in once she's reg'd and i obtain a front matching set. Can someone confirm that the Falcon rear king springs do fit and sit lower than the fairlane/LTD ones? cheers, spud |

Seems to sit alright, although superlows would look much better. |

They came out of an EF Xr8, my advice, go the superlows, lows are ok and give it a bit of handling, but it just makes it look standard height. Superlows would make it look lowered, as you would know, the 4x4 suspension the LTD's come out factory with is ridiculous, and the lows just bring it down to normal height. Super/ultra lows is where it would look like it's got lowered springs in it lol. That's next on my list to do. Check out my build thread if you want to see how high/low it looks with just Lows in. |

will look great with superlows all round mate.
LTDs/fairlanes look pimp as with even a bit of height taken out. plus white LTDs look extra pimp lol will be intersting to see how they sit in an LTD, not sure if they have different springs from king springs, but the extra weight they carry should be enough to make it sit a bit lower than a falcoon

yeah that's the plan misk - I read somewhere that falcon springs fit and it's common for LWB owners to slam em in cos they'll sit lower than the Fairlane/LTD SL's that are available from Kingsprings.
cheers for the positive feedback guys! Also, I've set myself a goal to have this all finished by the end of the year, including a full respray. I want to keep it relativly standard, but classy at the same time so I was thinking of a two tone job like on the Sportsmans (Charcoal gray lower section) -- Opinions?? Or, is anyone able to photoshop that for me? cheers, spud. |
