turns out that the wagon i was getting the gear outta to go the 5spd conversion off my mate wasnt the car i was thinking, he bought the car for cheap to fix up but then gave up on it. i bought the complete car (minus dizzy) from him for $250. its an ED gli wagon dynamic white, 5spd with smart lock (hooray). says on the tailgate ABS but havent had a good look at it to see if its got it. the clutch pedal has torn out of the pedal box but i only wanted the pedals anyway. if anyone wants any gear off this wagon let me know cos il practically give it to you (minus ecu and any g/box related parts).

3.27:1... doesnt say LSD on the tag so i ran a jack under it and tried the spinning wheel trick but the the opposite wheel wont spin at all and thats trying both sides.

EDIT: also did anyone see the red ED xr6 wagon on ebay starting at 1K could be a good project but he said if it doesnt meet reverse his guna wreck it so that could be good info for someone

hey just looking for a bit of advice and to sort a few items out before i do my 5sp coversion.

#
malwood pin - does it strengthen the it up enough or am i better off making something up? roughly how much?

#
firewall strengthing - why? what is the exact issue that happens without doing this?

#
clutches - what clutch is recommended by most? i was thinking exedy HD / sports tuff? is there an issue with people running HD clutches and breaking s**t easier?

Cheers, Taylor

its actually in real good nick, shifts like a dream with and without the power switch flicked 'on'. mum always had it service and its actually got a very large tranny cooler too (see the pics of the car without the front bar on). its a shame to pull it out really, i guess once its out its up for grabs mate.

i was hoping to have all the manual s**t out this weekend and have all the bits ready to go, then rip the stuff outta my sedan. so should be out in 2 weeks if ya can wait? depends on how quick you need it, might be able to rip it out sooner and help ya put it in if ya want. what side of town you on?

The ED looks the goods man, and i'm sure you will love it more with the 5speed conversion, i love my EB so much more since i converted it. You should reinforce the firewall, else you may tear it. I tore mine & bent the peddle box without too much effort. Firewall has been fixed & peddle box welded up were it cracked & bent.

I also know what you mean about the ford taking up time from your VW project. I've got 2 old holdens in the shed, that don't get enough time cause i'm busy modding my ford & my mighty boy.

Cheers

i dont think the firewall cracking or pedal box braking is a problem if you have a good condition standard duty clutch, its when you go heavy duty or have a worn/heavy clutch that it puts alot of extra pressure around that area...

Cheers Cam
