Ah yes Phill I was meant to report back wasnt I?
Ok keeping in mind it is still running the standard throttle body and has some HUGE manifold vacuum beacuse of the restriction , I have to admit it positively cracks.
It is a bit of a dog until 2700RPM but then takes off hard , you can actually feel yourself being pushed back in the seat.
Lack of low RPM responce has been put down to a few things. The RPM II's power range is from about 2500RPM up , so low end will suffer a bit. Still better then stock but.
The throttle body being too small is also an issue as the motor needs some decent revs on it to suck enough air to fill the runners of the manifold properly. At the moment it simple isnt getting enough air and is a bit turbulent.
The other issue I need to look at is the ignition timing. I have set it at 29 degrees , but the heads were decked 30thou so the compression is up through the roof. The car is pretty unhappy to start when cold so I am going to pull it back to about 25 degrees and start from there. A couple of people believe that I will actually get improved throttle response and more power from retarding the timing somewhat , as my comp is a bit too high. My motor pinged its head off at WSID on 32 degrees so ther ecould be some merit in it. My car has never really liked too much timing.

I cant wait to run it neither Phill. Just have to nut out the timing for once and for all and find the time to do it. A 70mm throttle body falling into my hands would be nice too!
All in all I am pretty happy with it and so far it has been worth the effort.
Thanks need to go to the following members here for the efforts.
TerroristGHIA for doing me a good deal on the heads in the first place and for supplying a lot of gaskets and stuff to put it all together , and also for the ideas on what to look at when I wanted to burn it. The trips out for assistance and moral support was appreciated too.
Yobboford for the offers of help , portable gazeebos and the offeer to drag the busted a*** old heap of s**t over to his garage to work it out when it looked like the rain that was meant to come on the weekend was going to stop me from fixing it in my driveway! The hugs and hanging of s**t to get a laugh out of me made it much less painfull.
Jaysen. Thanks for dropping parts over to my place on short notice on the way to work and for the ideas.
XTT909 Thanks for hooking me up with the AU MAF and associated gear to suit , and for a couple of pointers as far as tuning it to work.
Last but not least Donna. She was cool with me spending the money on my top end instead of putting it towards a wedding , and was quite ok when I had crap all over the place , couldnt stop yelling at it and was spending every waking moment for a week either working stuff out , working on it , or chasing up parts. Also she happily gave up her XR8 for me to get around in to work it all out.

Hi mate, a mate of mine has a brand new Holley 70mm t/b ,p/n 112-500, that he no longer needs. He paid about $250.00-odd for it a while back. He would be open to sensible offers. If you are interested, pm me your details and I'll get him to give you a call. 8-)

All good. I did get the one off Brett then being a d**k changed my mind on the one I wanted , so Brett was good enough to take it back.
Then mine shat itself..............oh well s**t happens.
I will learn one day.
Now has a new one on it and the battery decided to stop playing the game. So its now on charge and hopefully comes good.

Its a deadset piece of s**t.
The GT40P heads and Edelbrock Manifold seem so far to be the biggest stuff up and waste of money I have ever spent on a car.
It has taken it from a car that could be jumped in anytime and driven anywhere to a car that is f**k hard to start , is a complete pig until 2500RPM and once it does come on song doesnt do that much or go a hell of a lot harder then before.
Im over it.
Either someone needs to throw me a solution that works quickly or a reasonable offer for it.
Just dont care anymore.

so i assume all it needs is the larger throttle body, then maybe a J3 chip and someone to tune it?

what about seeing Joe At Crescent

It just needs getting rid of.
I am trying something at the moment that I hope may have a bit of an answer.
It starts fine once it is warm but wont when its cold and has been sitting around.
It sounds like it is flooded on cranking and as it tries to fire up.
Maybe just maybe it is the injectors leaking as it sits?
So I disconnected the fuel pump as it was running and let it idle out till it stopped. Once the car is cooled out I will reconnect the fuel pump and see if it starts easily. If it does (hopefully) it should be an injector problem.
Can you please measure the internal diameter of that throttle body you have Ross? If it is a 75mm one it will probably not work onmy manifold as mine only has a 70mm inlet.

What injectors and MAF electronics are you using Matt? If you have the 24lbers and an AU MAF without at the very least a tune, you will run into problems whether you have the big throttle body or not.

When I did mine, I kept my 19lbers and mini MAF on the motor on purpose, as I wasn't going to get the thing tuned until after everything was done. The car still hauls(love the midrange!!) and starts first go with great street manners and a nice lumpity lump at the lights.

Persevere a bit more.

Assuming that the MAF and injectors have been changed, you cannot expect any different from what you are getting now without a tune. The MAF is crucial to the EECV, get it wrong and everything goes to poo. Timing, fuel rates, load is guessed rather than measured etc.

Jaysen is pretty handy with the J3 toys too, if he hasn't already told you. Have a chat with him.

Matt,
Hook up the scanner and see if there are any fault codes, Just a thought.
Also the more i think about it the more i can see it being a leaking injector. Keep up the test and let me know how you go.

Brett
