This is the Hotness.

I know, its not the most traditional name but it seems to have stuck, I think it came from "The Master of Disguise". Got it about a year and a bit ago as my second car (after a 1985 telstar) and I'm really rather liking it.
1999 au XR6 manual with a really neat interior, the paint is fading down one side which is a little disappointing and there are a few carpark knocks on the bumpers.
Other than that I really like the look of the car and I can see a long and happy future.
As such I want to mess with it of course ;->

Eventually I'd like to put in an FPV I6 turbo engine + drivetrain, but i'm pretty sure the budget won't stretch that far, so I might have to look at boganing it up to that power level

Things I've done to it.

added cruise control, writeup soon

I've decided i'm going to try and keep the first post here "current" and i'll split off "projects" into segments linked from here.

For continuity, the first thing I was asking about was the cruise control.

Looks like a good base for a project man.

With the cruise, you will need a switch on the clutch peddle as well as on the brake peddle. Otherwise, if the body loom is a mid or high series, you should be able to plug n play. If not, you will have to either swap looms or add to your existing loom to get it to work.

Cheers

its all bolt on, all the holes for what you need already exists, fiddly bit is gonna be the clutch switch, but it can all be done easily enough.

Thanks for that guys I hadn't even thought of the clutch.
That would have been a noisy and somewhat startling experience.

Oh btw forgot to mention it runs a 14 second quater at the moment, if you take off .6 of a second for muggins heres truly shocking start ;->

Only changes (that i'm aware of) to stock are K&N air filter and bosch 100,000km plugs.

Not bad at all man. I have a switch on my clutch peddle, just put the same switch as what is fit to the brake peddle & spliced into the loom so either peddle can turn the cruise off, but i found that annoying, when out on the open road, and you wanna quickly grab 4th to pull up a long hill.

I find i can grab a gear before the ecu has enough time to rev up too much.

Cheers

Hmm interesting.
Is there no "resume" button? (so revmatch, downshift , clutch out and press resume to pick it back up)

If thats the case I might think about putting an "override" switch onto the gear stick, (make it look like a NOS button for giggles ) so if you hit the clutch for a reason or somebody else is driving the car its not going to do anything too unexpected.

See what happens, I think its going to be a suck it and see thing.

One of the button's on teh steering wheel does resume cruise iirc, but i cbf dropping out of cruise, then switching it back on. Yeah, it's probably not so great for someone who doesn't know my car tho...

Cheers

looks good mate, just a point on the clutch switch I find mine rarely woks,(may need adjusting? doesn't engage until well and truly depress, an even then sometimes.) but as has been mentioned, it doesn't normally rev out that quick.

Its quick enough to startle me lol.
I've been running it without for a while but when I downshift to overtake somebody it still caught me by surprise, so yeah, a bit less than awesome. Time for a run to Pick N Payless to rip off a brake switch methinks.

Hard part will be wiring it in, on the Au series 1, it actually uses a pressure switch attached to the brake master cylinder for the cruise cancel, so I'd have to intercept the wiring loom on this side of the firewall to put it in.

Actually I think there was one plug left over I wonder if that was what it was for?
