Yeah I had thought about that I just don't want to pick one up and it turns out to be rooted.... Seeing how my car has only done 80,000kms, it seems like the best one to use? Whats your thoughts though?

well I have been doing them this way for years now, and they seem okay.
depending on what is getting done, it will be getting fully recoed anyway, so as long as it isn't cracked or overly corroded or the valves aren't wrecked it shouldnt matter.

Thought I'd chuck up some pics of the new goodies for the XR.

Here are the Crow Cams 7332-12 Valve Springs...

Hey man, let us know how that Wade 1512a feels in it, I aim to put one in when I get around to a fresh engine and gearbox for my car.

If having the Wade 1512a is ruining your plans you could always sell it to me

Also if you don't mind me asking (and if I haven't missed it while reading), how much did those springs set you back? I don't trust my 300,000km, 15 year old springs with a more radical cam haha.

When you do look at a bigger cam you'll need to look at 'stiffer' springs, the EL one's won't hold correctly mine are the ones suggested by Wade so my advice is to at least use them :)

How are you doing the springs? Are you pulling the cyl head off or using those spring compressors that don't require removal of cyl head and use compressed air in the spark plug hole to stop valve from falling down?

I'm not going to do myself, decided I'd get CVE to do the work.

I'm chasing up another Tickford XR head and get Paul to do the head work, install the springs, lock, retainers etc etc and I'll just do a swap over :)
I figured that it's easier for them to do it just because I don;t have much free time at the moment, or a spring compressor.

How's your XR going?

Oh ok. Yeah so that will be easier if the head is off the car. I would sell you my old tickford head but I want it when I wanna do some crazy headwork/cam stuff to mine haha. I have a whole spare tickford complete motor in the shed.

Yeh mines going good, gonna sort a cold air intake for it soon so it's not suckin hot air from the manifold but other than that. Going strong.

That's not too bad at all. I forgot to write new springs down on my list of parts to acquire, I wonder how much improvement they'd be over the old springs that have been hammered down by the cam millions of times haha.

I have pretty similar goals and mods for my EL, hopefully you get your power figures that you want, it should be pretty doable with the parts you have in plan. :D

lol :)

I think the 1521a will restrict the max power while N/A but I wanted a turbo cam that would bring high RWKW when I turbo it. It will be interesting to see how it goes with head work just because not many people seem to use them?

Oh true, I considered the the 977b cam but I am aiming for 170rwkw with headwork and other parts to support it, so I was gonna get a 1521a from Wade. I don't really know what is comparable to the 1521a from other companies such as Crow cams and others so I'll research that before I buy.

So are you gonna turbo build yours when you get onto your opens? Betcha can't wait :D
