Is Narelles Fairmont a series 1 or series 2?
I had a 5.0 series 1 Fairmont ages ago and it didnt have traction control. I think it was optional on series 2.

5.0 LTD got traction control. I suppose they were concerned about grampa's reaction time with 175KW :S

So, I have Auto-magic and no traction control. I know this as I have tested out the lack of traction a fair bit of late :D

Even if I did have it would be one thing to turn off as soon as the car is started. It is only a 200kw motor, its not as though it fries tyres everywhere. If you want to do it you have to intend on doing it. its only in the wet, some "accidental" loss of traction is supremely easy to achieve.

Not dissapointed in traction control system, everything else is there.

So a warped rotor has brought me to the conclusion that new rotors and pads are non negotiable, Heading out today to Sydney Race Brakes to pick up my new pads and rotors..

They look like this.

The reality is too, that currently its only a 200kw motor, hardly a tyre smoker unless you intentionally get up it. Given more punch down low and more mid range pull though, it would make short work out of a set of rears. I intend on doing Cam and tune before the year is out. Thats if all the stars line up, I can pilfer enough money out the get s**t done.

The wife is saying leave it for now, I just got it, be happy for a while before I take spanners to it. well, more spanners than I have already. Maintenance is very different to modifying. She does not see that though, just $$ out.

Windsor timing cover + loss of coolant is common

its hard to see, but i can follow the trail from under the sump to the where the timing cover meets the block at the top on the drivers side.

but its more common to have a pinhole leak in the cover, which is also a possibility in mine, but what i do know its defitintely not the water pump or thermostat housing in mine

apparently over concentrated coolant can accelerate problems, which is a funny thing because i only just changed the coolant not long ago......

firstly, sorry dc_todd for going off topic

from what ive read, depending where the leak is, it can contaminate the engine oil

$300+ locally, or $120 landed from the U.S.

OK, Rotors collected today, they look the goods too. I will be installing them Friday morning with QFM pads as well. Again, Hats off the Matt at Sydney Race Brakes for sourcing these for me @ the right price too may I add.

I was thinking of asking Terrorist to come and swing spanners, but then I remembered his tool box looks like this

Image

changed my mind, Since I have a 4am start on friday, I figured there is bound to be a significant period of downtime to be had between the hours of 3.45am and 5.30pm. Yeah, I am doing a proper days "work"

So I would assume happy snaps will be taken along the way and updates or finished product will be captured. Should be good for a viewing at Liverpool on friday night.
