How did you go with the sump? I can get you some pics if you want.
My sump didn't have a dipstick hole so I used the one off the 5.0.

How did it go with clearance around the rear main and the bolt holes? Did you have to modify it at all?
Would be interesting info for when I put my 351 in the Mav. Would be good to use the current sump if possible.

A 302 sump will not fit a 351, they 351 is wider, and has deeper mains, hence the need for a standard sump off an XW. Another member here has advised that the 351W in the XW will do the job, but it is still a little tight.

Thats exactly what I thought after looking at your motor Brett but it was worth asking if someone has made a 5.0 one fit.

I was just reading the rumour has it that the Mustang with the Coyote motor is running an electric power steering pump and that it is believed when the series 2 FG with the Coyote in it is released they will be running the electric pump as well.
Could be something to look at in the future.............................................
I will be looking at one for the truck eventually. If it works it will get rid of one lot of belts and get me some more room happening.

Different style of power steering all together Matt, I think that the cost involved in converting yours over to the newer setup would not be worth the gains in performance or economy.

Do you mean you cut a dipstick tube out of a 5.0L sump and welded it into your 51 sump?

I have no idea how the Coon setup will work but there is other electric power steer pump options out there (allowing nearly any steering box etc), the biggest issue I can see is that they are designed to be variable etc, not a constant like most belt driven setups, even Coons earlier variable setup in EL series left the pump as a constant (rpm changing it a little), the steering rack controlled variable pressure.

I will have to look up how the Mustang steering setup will work, I can't work out the yanks, why the f**k would you bother when the backwards banjo playing freaks use elcheapo Macpherson struts and the worse live axle rear end, they reverted to three link panhard (If they didn't look awesome there would be bounties for killing Mustangs). Other than the engine coming to us I hope we stay the phuk away from anything from backwards Seppo's, if it isn't some new fangle weapon for killing humans it just seems to go backwards. Oh a felt a shiver down my back, when the back stabbing b**ch is kicked out and the budgie smuggler takes over we will be drown with more Yanky crap. Because the Aussie back stabbing media won't help our cause, Australia's biggest enemy is the Aussie media (whoops sorry rant over).

Nope,

Drill out the plate for the dipstick on the 5.0 sump, then holesaw the side of the sump for the 51, drill 4 bolt holes and attach 5.0 dipstick plate, easy as and already done.

Thanks mate, when the smoke clears and I rake through the rubble after firing the Tommy Hawk into the shed, I might be able to find both the 5.0L sump and 51 sump, hmm so many choices, so little money to finish even one

Another minor setback.

Spoke with the builder, and regardless of wehat trickflow say, when you use a big cam and big valves, the valves do not clear the pistons, so pull it apart and have the pistons machined. But still keen to have it in the car in the 2 week time frame.

The offending parts. Piston to valve clearance due to twisted wedge heads.

Too true Rosco. The wait for the pushrods meant i needed them for the final check. Its a set back, but not a big one, especially after having waited sooooo long for the pistons.
