The RTA are out of control, in fact the current code of practice will be phased out come 30 september 2011, BUT the engineer community has not been advised of what the new code will be. For me, this means enginnering needs to happen before then, and for that to happen, i need a stock set of V8 front brakes for the inspection. Brett Can help you with the brakes mate, 6 & 8 are the same. Have sloted rotors and Front Calipers and you have the hoses. |

Well, the car is at Joes for some final fitup before engineering. Seems the Auto has called it quits, so T5 manual on the way. Should be an interesting drive then.

What mods did you do with the auto before you fitted 351w?
After you blow up the T5 and destroy everything with the T56 are you going to try a 4R70W? Mate paid over $1400 just for a clutch for his TT383 LS1 Commonwhore Monarhooooo.

So I have been told, the input shaft bearing is the main weak link.
A friend with a boosted (6) falcon was looking at buying a T5 with a modified input bearing from NSW or QLD (cant remember where). Might be worth looking into...

T5s are like a lucky dip! Some will take endless abuse, while others will let go of third at the slightest torque increase.
You could always get the T5 rebuilt and bring it up to a 575lb/ft rating, with the right gear.

Well, guys, its been 4 days with the T5 in it and several things have come to light.
Firstly, my economy has increased 2 fold after fitting the T5. As an auto with a 3000 stall, i was getting a best of 180km from a tank, mainly due to the box being shagged and spending most of its time around the 35oorpm mark to get the car moving. Since fitting teh T5, i have completed 150k's and still have over 1/2 a tank left. Now for the performance. As a 5.0 with 3.9 diff gears and a 3000 stall and a bigh shot of gas, she ran a best of 13.0@108 with 1.8 60ft times. On wednesday this week i headed out to WSID and it has been atleast 15years since i raced a manual. The best time of the night was a 13.9@106 and a 60ft time of 2.1. This is with 3.08 diff gears and absolutely punishing the clutch to get it moving. Of note was the weighbridge reading, with me in it she tips the scales at 4177pounds, and i only weigh 220ponds myself. The other issue that hes rarised its ugle head is the amount of backlash in my cheap a*** AU diff. I am not bagging the supplier and am actually very happy with the diff, but when it was an auto, the converter absorbed the backlash and it wasnt noticable, now down low its a pig rooting piece of poo when on and off the throttle in daily driving. I am not overly fussed as the next item on the check list is to get rid of the 3.08 gears and upgrade to some 3.7's Cheers Brett

3.7's will not fix the backlash issue you are having with the true trax. Learning to drive a manual with a mechanical locker will however fix this issue for you.
You will find you are constantly driving the car now. until you really get your head around it, it can be alot of hard work, you have to always be thinking about what your doing how much clutch to drag, what gear your needing for mid corner and so forth. Time is your teacher, You will also find bushes become the natural sworn enemy of the true trax. In short, learn to drive!

And a little further update. Ran her again at WSID, with a 13.5 @113. Again this is all motor no Gas.
Only got 2 runs in due to some bodgey second hand parts on my behalf. Was a strong smell of oil under full throttle, wich was originally pul down to the dipstick poppong out. Well fixed that only to have the dipstick tube pop out. It was very worn and would not stay in place. So to avoid any embarrasement form track officials i retired it for the night. Seems ultra gray is my friend and no more oil leaks. Just waiting for next Wedxnesday to try again Cheers Brett

Good effort Brett, if you can get a good take off etc 113mph is a low 12 second pass
Looking forward to further updates! James |

Strong MPH Brett, as James said, 113mph is low 12 territory.
What were the 60ft's?

60ft are anywhere between 2.6 and 2.3, not that i am overly worried, as i am still running the hard as nails nexens to give me a fuse instead of the box. If i get traction, i feel something will snap.

Good call Brett. If those 60's could come down to 2.0, at least, theres an easy 12.50 in the bag.
