Well done on the rust fix!
They all seem to rust down there unfortunately, mine has a lot on the outer sill but hasn't gotten any worse thankfully :)
Bonnet makes it look a lot different, heaps smoother imho!
Going for the standardish look all over?

I'm usually out on Main road/Third Ave at about 8am.

I need to come out to Liverpool meet again. My Ghia is yet to make an appearance.

Sorry to hijack your thread, Troyman.

yea rust has gone...i fitted the original bonnet, ive decided to do away with the bonnet bulge.....

it took a fair amount of polishing to get the original bonnet up to scratch, it sat on the roof of a wreck under a tree for 2 years than leant against a shed for near a year..
but it came up really good .....

it sux about the rust, atleast its in a spot that can be repaired..

im glad i kept the original bonnet, except the bonnet had a colony of ants living in the bracing..
it was alittle amusing pulling up at a set of lights after about 10 mins of driving, to see an army of ants exiting and running accross the bonnet carying there eggs trying to escape the heat..
so i had to fumigate..

this is going to sound stupid but i never even noticed you had a bonnet bulge until the power cruise video and i thought wtf.. hes got a new bonnet, and now your taking it off
good idea with going back to stock, if the turbos going to keep wrecking it you may aswell move it along to someone else

lol, its had a bulge on it since 2009... but being a clean white its very subtle and doesnt stand out..

unfortunatly even though its all steel and has been welded in, there is a layer of filler over the welding, and it seems the filler dont like high heat, its just coincidence that it only cracked after fitting the turbo and the damage is directly over the turbo......
ill find out soon enough if the paint on the original bonnet frys up....

Get some heat shielding.

turbo bag, or the flexy alu sheet the B series use for turbo, header, exhaust shielding.

Or go to woolies and get yourself a Glad BBQ roasting tray.

it actually does have shielding, the acl type thats used on the factory manifolds, the dump pipe is wraped in heat wrap aswell, i have a theory but it is just a theory..
most of the heat issues were after shut down, im thinking the bulge section acted like a heat cup with no where for the raising heat to escape???

Fair enough, haven't seen your bay in quite some time, I don't remember what it looks like.

And yeah the bulge would offer a heat trap. I know on mine, if the bonnet is wet, the bulge dries first.

Maybe set up the thermos to run on after shut off for a few mins.
