yep i was pretty sure that was going to be the outcome, it was one of those f**k it lets see what happens moments..

ive been quoted from $2000 up to as much as $5000 for a built btr..
it just depends on what i want done..

a std rebuilt c4 is $1500, a built c4 is up to $3000 custom converter to suit the sohc is $1500 , bellhousing is around $500.. then i loose my overdrive..

so if a second hand high km thrashed std btr can handle 8 months of drag racing, burnouts and power skids, a built one should last a while..???

that was the first time i fitted a btr on a gravel driveway by myself..
t5 is not so bad, but that btr is a heavy son of b**ch... using jacks was the only way but it was just an awkward thing to maneouver..

The btrs are a prity tuff box for what they are stock, ive only killed one from cooking the oil which took out the front pump bush and seal. Im assuming you have done the the s4/5 solonoid mod and trans cooler? You could always look into converting it to be full manual shift for a funner drive. I will be doing it to mine soon probably just using microswitches on a plate working off the selector arm on the box that way i can keep the stock shifter. Bad luck on the t5, would have guessed 3rd to break first

i finally decided to rewire my thermo fans, this time i used the ef fan relay set up instead of a bunch of univesal relays..
the fans have always been triggered to come on full speed by the ems ecu, before that a davis craig thermal switch that probes into the radiator hose..

after talking with a trans guy, the possible reason i may have cooked and shortened the life of my last auto could have been due to not enough air flow through the trans cooler because of the intercooler restricting airflow? (kind of makes sence)...
in normal driving conditions the thermo fans didnt come on untill water temp reached 94deg c, so in most cases they hardly ever come on and when they did they were only on for 20 seconds at a time..

so now fan1 comes on low at 80 deg c triggered by the ems, this is for air to be drawn through the trans cooler and passenger side of the rad, fan 2 and fan 1 go onto full speed triggered by a trident thermo switch and the a/c.

the switch screws directly into the ea/ed thermostat housing using the spare hole.
its heat range is on at 92 deg c and off at 87 deg c, seems perfect..

it makes me wonder why the hell i originally used the davis craig switch when this switch is a perfect fit, switches on at the right temp and is neat as factory...
their even available in a higher and lower temp trigger..
funny enough the one i chose is a factory replacement for a daihatsu charade, mira or sirion..lol..

anyone interested in the switch its a tridon tfs-200..

Ahhh, the joys of working by oneself huh?! I know those feelings well...... One time I got fed up with waiting for someone to give me a hand just to move a auto into the boot up the drive. Ended up just picking it up, walking thirty metres up a slight incline, and dumping it all unceremoniously like into the boot of waiting EA.

Amazing what skinny a** white man do. Putting in T5 be self sucked. Had to keep climbing out from underneath car to put a wedge on the clutch pedal.... And when you have a stuffed back and the closest you've ever come to touching your own toes is when you hit a car at 160km/h on your motorbike you see the annoyance of this.

Ah well. So now you're selling the big clutch and everything. Wish I was in Aussie.

A) Am damn sure I'd have more money
B) Am damn sure I'd be transfering you some

During a RB20DET install into a Suzuki 4WD we put a thermo switch device on the water line from radiator that directly drives the relays. Works fine...

Nice work Troy! I'm going to be looking into that thermo switch, however I don't have a spare spot in the lower thermo housing (climate control car), I'll have to fit an adapter.

Cheers

There are these little slug like devices that you can pop into any water line as long as you can seal around a 1mm wire coming out at a hose clamp or similar. Some even have a dial which can set on / off thermo level.......
