Thanks for that link snap. So by the looks of it Ill have to pull a spare cluster I have here apart and pull the speedo electronics out of it and through it up behind the dash somewhere.
Shouldnt be too hard.

NP. Yeah, the 5v power signal mustn't be linear.
Off topic, if you intend running the 5.0 ECU, you'll need a proper operating TCM with correct inputs, as the TCM feeds data to the ECU. There is a thread in the v8 forum. So if you get the speed signal sorted, that should be fine. The EB/ED/NA/NC clusters had different tacho's for 6's and 8's not sure if the ZL setup is similar.

Ok have now figured out how Im going to do all this and I reckon it wil work.
ECU , TCU and wiring harness will all be hooked up as per the NC running in stealth to control the motor and box. I will seperate those looms from the engine bay loom and dash loom and install them seperately and wire them up for go as per the conversion in my Mav. I will pull the speed sensor electronics out of a spare cluster here and put them in a plastic box hidden somewhere so the ECU and TCU gets it speed signals it needs. The ZL dash will have the tacho recalibrated to a V8 ingnition signal. Thats easily done. The speed signal will be split off the e series sender. I will count the pulses per rotation between the 2 of them and have a signal modifying box made to go between the e series output and the ZL dash to bring the ZL speedo back into line. This way the ECU and TCU will think its still in the NC running normally and the ZL speedo will think it is getting a signal from the XF sender so all will be fine.

The ECU doesn't necessarily need a speed sensor input.
Not having it means the speed limiter is removed.

Slowly getting bits and bobs together.
Power window regs turned up today and I organised an AU tank for my little change I will be making. Now I just need to get the jobs on the missus's 4b sorted and the Maverick passed rego and I can make a start!

Well the ute project sort of took a major step forward today.
The Mav passed rego first go so that is one thing out of the way. At least now I know that I can take the ute off the road to do it all and I dont have to worry about the truck not being able to be used. Also managed to get a couple of clean XF guards yesterday so I dont have the d**k indicators in the sides of the guards.

Making a slight little detour now. Was going to setup and run the BTR 4 speed auto from the Fairy but then got onto a recently rebuilt V8 C4 for $200. Picking it up tomorrow.
I will lose the overdrive but dont have to stuff around setting up speed sensors and mounting up a BTR. The C4 ratios are better for performance and the aftermarket gear available for them is huge. I can also then run an aftermarket ratchet shifter . For the slight disadvantage in getting rid of the overdrive the benefits are huge. This also leaves me open to the option of fitting the car up on straight LPG later on and completely getting rid of all the EFI setup.

ashcook wrote: Nice work! I saw a similar one up towards this way for a few about $300 I think it was. You did well. Bring on the straight LPG!! Most likely the same one. It is coming from up your way. Guy that has it is bringing it down to Sydney with him tomorrow and I just have to whip across and pick it up off him. If something goes pear shaped with me getting there you might be getting a grovelling and pleading PM . See how it goes with the idea of the gas. All depends on time , funds all the usual crap. Im sticking to my last plan but and am still coming up to see you.

Got the C4 today. It looks even better then in the pics. The convertor seems to have been recod lately which is a plus even though eventually it will cop a 2500 histall.
Just gotta get a shift kit for it now and that bit is sussed. Also organised a new diff for the ute today. I was going to mod the sedan one but a XG 3.45 LSD fell into my hands complete from disc to disc. Couldnt say no! Im a bit worried that it might be a bit low on the freeway with the lack of overdrive but we shall wait and see. If worst comes to worst I cannot see too many issues offloading a 3.45 wagon LSD

ashcook wrote: Well done Matt, glad it all came together nicely! I'm not sure how the C4 will go but my single rail with the 3.45 was pretty low. It didn't really like going above 80k's when cruising. It was sitting around the 3 grand mark in 4th. I've never played with auto's so I can't say if that'll be the same case for you. Well Im tipping mine will be the same. At the end of the day 4th in the single rail is still 1.1 ratio and 3rd in the C4 is 1.1. It would be damn nice for destroying tyres but.............LOL
