id stick with the grey ute matt, gas is fitted already so your saving $800-$1000 odd if you fit most of it except the gas line and you dont need to engineer it so theres another $500 odd in your pocket plus all the time changing it over.If it was me and that ute is right to re-reg and insure, i'd go that way....

Phill and Ash both of you make very valid points and it is these points exactly Im considering.
The grey ute has been registered in Vic since it was written off but not in NSW. I have had it confirmed that it has to have the written off check done at the blue slip which is no issue. It has never been registered in NSW on gas before and was complied after the Vic rego was cancelled so it has never been registered on gas at all to the best of my knowledge so it is possible I might be able to scam the rebate out of it , thats something I wont know till I try. Not having to get it engineered is a big bonus for me and also I dont have the issues sorting the air and heater out with the XF firewall change. It doesnt have air at the moment but I have found a couple of nice little aftermarket kits that would fit and work better then factory so thats something to think about. Will get her home on Saturday , give her a tub and assess the situation from there. Might get you to run the evil eye over it Ash when your down this way next and see what your thoughts are. Wonder what the white ute would be worth now it has six months rego on it? Any ideas?

Well today was a somewhat busy day.
Up early and got stuff moved around and then it was a case of. Out with the old. In with the new Started to have a bo peep at it all and I hate to say it but it looks like it will be stripped and all the gear put into the white ute. It has a fairly good amount of tin worm in it , that while it appears fixable to me it will be effort and time then it will take just to switch everything over. So far I have found cancer in the top of the rear quarter , bottoms of the rear quarters and sill. There are cracks in the paint because it has had a few too many coats and to get the body up as tidy as the white body is will be a fair amount of work. Going to run around it with the grinder tomorrow and suss it out but it aint looking good for its future. The front end is as clean and as tidy as so that will make its way over to the ute. Found a couple of bonus points with it. It has a rather large tailshaft loop in it so that will be used , it has a mint condition LTD cabin light and velour moulded hood lining , a set of hydraulic clutch manual pedals (which are neigh impossible to get for an XD now days) and a few bits that make it well worth the purchase price. It didnt come with a C4 as advertised. It is actually a FMX Yeah totally useless to me as all my gear is for a C4 but it will be going onto ebay as a FMX is a somewhat saleable item. All in all very happy with it and cant wait to get into it.

Nah couldnt fire it up cause there is no gearbox in it at the moment.
Hopefully will get a lot of it stripped down during the week. Want to try and get everything out of it I need and want this week and get rid of it so fingers crossed I can start on the white ute next weekend or the weekend after.

Well the old man and my bro dropped by this morning as we were heading out to the car show at Glenmore Park.
We figured that the scrap metal man would not be overly fussed if he was picking up a car body that had numerous grinder gouges and digging marks from screwdrivers in it so we went investigating. Cant be stuffed loading pics up now but lets say we attacked the bits that looked really really ugly to find they are no where as bad under the skin as first suspected. Yeah there is a couple of rust repairs to do but nothing major , the places where I thought the cancer had just been bogged up was actually all welded and plated correctly and it was just poor bog application that was making it look bad. Long story short , yeah there is some work to do to sort it out 100% but the grey ute is now staying and the white one is for sale. Work wil start tomorrow getting a few things together and I will have to look at getting the C4 into it and a new tailshaft and diff so its driveable and then start on the rest of it. I also pinched something out of Terrorists shed this even ing to test fit and see what they look like on the ute. There will be pictures tomorrow but I have to say it will be very very hard to hand back........

As I have 2 litres of that sitting my shed that recently now has no purpose for. Dunno what the colour actually is mate but it is a gun metal grey. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

And also if we have a baby during the night and I can't make it. A few hours ago, I thought that may have been the case. But things have settled down. For now, anyway. Dont stress dude the lid aint going anywhere. Family always comes first.

Well not a huge amount to report , been sorting out selling the white ute and tracking down a couple of bits for the grey one.
Picked up another C4 as a backup and a crossmember this afternoon and told my bro to get me a gearbox mount before the weekend. Ashcook has been good enough to get a starter motor in the mail to me so I pretty much have it covered now. Just need to get some e series tailshaft to diff flange bolts. Anyone got some spares? Had a quick stab at starting the few rust repairs today while I was waiting to get the other bits lined up. Will get it jacked up tomorrow afternoon and start putting a gearbox in it so hopefully I can fire it up on the weekend.
