Just a couple of pics of what appeared to be very nasty until the paint and bog was pulled out and it wasnt so bad after all.

What appeared to be a lot of bog at the rear of the quarter was actually a previous repair that was done pretty well but the finish of it was stuffed.
The holes at the edge of the ute tub had been cut out and new plates made for them today so thats starting to come together.
Cut out the front of the rear quarter and started that.
Have taken all the inspection plates in the tray off and it is actually really clean considering its a 29 year old car.
Will get in there and wash out all the muck and old dust and then give it a good coat with some POR15 or similar.
The other cracks in the paint and area that look really nasty are actually just poorly applied paint and too much of it , so its worth fixing.
The rough plan is once I sell the white ute off to get the grey one running and on the road so I can use it and take my time doing the body work as it is still in use.
Yeah will look a bit chaddy for a while but it keeps me in something to do.

Great start matey, you're truckin' right along with this one. Shame to see the white one go, you brought that up to a bloody nice ute in a very short time. I expect alot from this grey one if it is to be the replacement young sir! :) :) :)

Starter motor turned up today.
Thought I would give it a bit of a push in the right direction so had to move it to jack it up.
Tripped over in the process of opening the drivers side door and landed against the right rear quarter panel. Put a nice dent in it which I was pretty p****d about about but thought it would pop out.
Removed the right hand inspection plates and gave it a push. It did pop out and all the bog around it cracked................... :(
Think I well and truly found out why its a repairable write off. Did a bit more digging and found it has quarter to half an inch of bog inthe rear quarters consistantly from one end to the other.
Someone has done a real good job on the speed file to get it as straight as it is.

Walked away from it to have a think. Dunno what to do with it now , there is going to be a s**t load of work to make it 100% right.
At least I still currently have options available to me.
Going to cool my heels for a couple of days and not make any rash decisions. Im starting to get the s**t with all the tooing and throwing. It is great to have options and choices available but it is also a major headache.

Meh its one of those things.
Its not like the car owes me a fortune. It owes me the grand sum of $150 at the moment.
Me and my bro have a few ideas we are kicking around and will talk about over the next couple of days and make a decision then.
Either way Im going to come out of this with a 351 ute. Just dunno what colour or model it will be...................LOL

Well sometimes things dont go to plan and at the end of the day it all comes out better in the end.
The grey ute is a good thing but the rear quarters have too much bog in them to make it a worthwhile vehicle to put time and effort into at this time.
The white ute is actually pretty straight and honest apart from a few blemishes and is a pretty good project base.
So what is happening is the grey ute will surrender its 351 and gas system to be fitted to the white ute.
Between the two vehicles the best bits from each will make their way onto the white ute and the cast offs will be put on the grey ute. Once I have finished my ute the 4.1 and 2.92 diff from the white ute will be fitted to the grey ute and me , my brother and old man are going to turn it into a burnout ute for a bit of cheap fun.
That way we get to do a fun project together at minimal cost , enjoy ourselves and if and when the time and cash required to do the grey ute to a worthwhile standard is around the car will still be here.

Now it has gone this way I decided this afternoon that steps had to be taken for NOTHING to get in the way. So the grey ute has been pushed out the back ready to give up its heart and this afternoon the white ute went up on the stands and the box and half the interior is currently out of it.

YES IT HAS FINALLY STARTED!!!!!!!!!

Will be up at sparrows tomorrow mornning with the missus as she has to go to work and am aiming to have the rest of the interior , dash etc and motor out by tomorrow afternoon.
Then I can remove the 351 set that up and dummy fit it all to work out what heater box and firewall changes I need to make to get it to work.
Didnt get a chance to take any pics this afternoon but there will be some tomorrow!!!!!!!!

But yes it has actually started and is now on! No changing things around now!

Awesome mate, off to a good start. You'll get heaps dome tomorrow with a solid days work. Have fun with that dash/heater set-up. What a stupid design that is! Hopefully you can work out the A/C and don't take my root any simply f**k it off.

Cheers mate.
Yeah the dash in them centainly does suck the root.
It might be the rather large thorn in my side yet.
The air con stays regardless. Dont care how much extra time or dollars it may take its not going anywhere!
Need to look into it more but there is a good chance it will be replaced with this.
http://speedyairspares.com.au/products/ ... t-2-2.html

Have to get some further info off the suppliers but it would be novel to have an XF where the heater actually gets hot and the air con cold!
