Maybe the hole is engineered to that size and works as the stopper? There dosnt seem to be any like the adjustable bolts on the other ones..

It's made to work with any T5 so you know it will work.
I remember reading that they dropped the adjustable shift stops, but I can't remember why.

I've got an older version, maybe v2 or v3.
I've changed the handle using parts from the camaro shifter like this.
Image
I rotated it so it is in north-south orientation.

Weird, it doesn't look like the latest version has a join in the main shaft that was a big part of dampening NVH.

Yeah all bolts up hard on the shaft... No rubber sections like the original one... The base is a straight through shaft with a nylon ball... Then the handle is attached with the alloy clamp nice and solid...

It does have the stops too... There is flat section in the shaft for it to contact and long threaded holes through the base... The rubber cover should fit over the stops nicely which the eBay one wouldn't accept the factory boot if the stops were installed... Hence I don't run stops currently but I don't race and am usually pretty easy on the shifter...

The video shows you pull on shifter firm in forth and then screw the stop in until it just touches... Then back it off half a turn (I think) and then lock up there... The stops should never contact the shaft under normal use... Sound like what everyone else does?

Cheers,
Tim

I'm using the stops, just for extra security. They don't get in the way of anything, so I figured "why not?"

Here's a pic of the original mainshaft design disassembled.

How did that top section attach to the bottom section through that rubber bush? :-\ noise doesn't phase me so much... As long as it isn't plain annoying... I'd sooner the feel...

Cheers,
Tim

Well its in... Fitment was a breeze...

There is gear noise much to my surprise... None when cruising... Only when under load...

It's very precise and firm compared to the cheap eBay one... The shift knob is a bit "sharp" to hold compared to the leather ba one but I'll get the feel for that...

I fitted the shift stops... Had to shorten the bolts by the width of the nuts otherwise they were going to wear through the rubber dust boot... Worked fine and didn't add pressure to it...

Fairly happy but... Give it a week or so to wear in a bit and see what we have... I have stacks of photos too... Just need time to upload them...

Cheers,
Tim

I noticed my cheap one is starting to transfer some noise under load, mainly in 5th. you can feel it (gets worse) if you hold just a bit of pressure on the knob. im assuming the shift fork is resting on the synchros

Revelation!

Apparently (according to MGW) if you don't want the noise you fit that silicon gasket I photographed... And don't use RTV... The gasket must be the equivalent of the rubber joint... So now I need to pull it back out and clean off the RTV and try the gasket to see if that isolates the noise...

Hind sight is a wonderful thing...

Cheers,
Tim

Hmm, interesting bit of research, that makes sense though. Rubber vibration absorption.

Like the blocks of rubber in the factory shift rod join..

Here's the latest project...

Image

Image

Image

Only roughly wired up currently to see how it performs and I have to say I'm really impressed... Out does the 8" mounted in the parcel tray and has a heap less rattle being in it's own box on the floor... Intention is to get it mount up under the seat... First measurements before the purchase says it should... Yet to try for real but...

http://www.focalaustralia.com.au/shop/i ... mpact-sub/

Comes with a remote control for the gain and a wiring harness if you have iso plugs as to make it a hassle free installation...

More to come no doubt...

Cheers,
Tim
