Lucky i've kept this thread up to date....................
This post is kind of short and to the point update that has been cut and pasted from a different forum. Spent some money. 74 square feet of dynamat extreme http://www.dynamat.com/products_automot ... treme.html swivel hub kits, front and rear wheel bearings, axle seals, pinion seals. intake manifold gasket water housing gaskets and seals. Autometer 2 1/6 oil pressure gauge and cup Longer braided brake lines. front brake rotors and caliper kits with new pistons front shaft uni joints That was $1600ish blow to the bank balance. Now I need to spend some weekends working on the s**t. {USERNAME} wrote: Have been very busy, I didn't really have the time to work on it and I couldn't spare the hoist before.
There is a lot of work to do. 1.Remove engine and gearbox-done.- fit reco gear box and transfer with %85 gears- fit turbo charged TD42 2.Remove the old LPG system.-done 3.Remove all the un-needed petrol related items. 4.Clean underside and check for chassis cracks and any small rust spots that might be hiding-done. 5.Gut and clean the inside and again check for cracking in the floor and any rust that might be hiding. 6.The whole thing is being treated with a rust preventative. 7.Refit interior 8.Replace rear sliding window rubbers 9.change door locks and handle over from the old one 10.New windscreen 11.fit cargo barrier 12.Fit BA/BF front seats 13.Fit the lighting from the old one 14.fit the sterio from the one 15.straighten and paint the winch bar from the old one fit it 16.Sliders/ sill protection 17.rebuild complete rear diff assembly-done 18.rebush rear suspension 19.transfer front diff from the old one with all arms and bushes 20.either transfer suspension over from the old one OR fit an Ironman 4inch lift 21.New uni joints for both drive shafts plus balancing 22. Make new engine mount for passenger side. |

IT'S ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Friday 2/3/12
I've got until easter holiday to have all the swap done and have the new truck registered and read to go. (have a camping trip planned) I'll ad some photos along the way, Including the reason why it's getting now with such little time. Here are the reasons for the new body. Sat 3/3/12 Got to work at 8am went home at 11:30 This is what I got done. Engine out. started on the rear end swap. (brakes, springs, shocks) OUT IN And this is why i'm going it now and not after easter. That broken bolt goes through to the timing housing, and it's rusted solid and snapped off. The front of the engine needs to come off to fix it. Only takes a lazy 2 hours to have the engine out, So I figured bugger bending over the bullbar to do it. Then I thought If it's coming out, be stuffed if it going back in and then coming out again in 6 weeks time. |

Tuesday 6th
Rear suspension and brakes completed. Tow bar and gas tank mounts removed. Wednesday 7th Exhaust system out, LPG lines out, under bonnet gas gear out. Dump pipe cut out of the old turbo exhaust so I can reuse the V band, Hmm just realised I need to build a new exhaust system. Safari Tuff clutch is on its way. Saturday 10th CVs removed cleaned and repacked. Swivel hubs stripped, cleaned, new bearings and seals, new wheel bearings and brake rotors. The short side is waiting for a speedy sleeve for the inner axle seal. Bought some today, but by the time I got that far and found out the sleeves were to small the bearing place was closed. Thanks goes out to josh for standing in front of the parts washer for half the morning cleaning out old bearing and CV grease. Also for taking out both the steering boxes and fluid lines and for getting a good start on pulling the front end out of the old truck. Plans for the next few days. Going back into work tomorrow to clean up. (mostly to avoid a Tupperware party) Monday night. Rebuild both the front brake calipers, speedy sleeve the short side axle, and assemble the rest of that side. Tuesday night. drop the gearbox out of the old truck. Wednesday night. drop the rest of the front end out and get the springs and radius arms into the new truck. |

busy busy man, was that the carby engine or injected? i have a mate with a carby gq and his brother who is also a mate has the injected, and his cousin has a diesel, the diesel one gets flogged more than all of them and holds up much better, both petrol ones are dual fuel

that would be a carby petrol. these old girls in Diesel love a turbo! We have built at least 3 of these (family and friends)- They Rattle, Their Basic- But They never stop! 5" lift and some muddies, shim the rear (if not locked)- and they will go anywhere!!

also one of them fitted the later model diff gears as they are lower ratio and because its a sludgomatic it makes it much better on fuel and in the bush

Busy is no joke. I've also had the engine out of an 80 series landcruiser to replace a damaged crank shaft. there's 20 hours in that one. along with the engine out of an AU ute for a rebuild (one of the twins) I got to work at 6:30am and left at 6:45pm today and have been pretty much 7-7 for the last two weeks. |

Front springs changed over and top shock mounts done.
Had to raise the top mounts my 9cm. VS: The old OME 2 lift shocks the new ones are 12cm longer at full extension and only 5cm longer at full compression. We cut the bottom off one pair and the top off the other pair and joined what was left. It's basically been setup so that it's on the bump stops with about 5cm of shock travel, and at full extension on the hoist the shock 'just' retains the spring. Effectively while off road the shock will never be the limiting factor. Next the radius arms and all the steering rods and box.................. |
