im pretty sure jaycar make a shallow mount 8". i find my JBL (200wrms) rattles the parcel shelf no matter how much suport i put on it.. maybe its because its the fairlane and its larger area, im not sure. but ill be reverting back to this when the lane gets its supercharger to reduce weight.. those 12's are bloody heavy when boxed

Nice idea man, i'll check the jaycar catalog. I just had a quick look for some factory 8" subs on ebay, there's some commodore ones pretty cheap atm. So it's go me thinking.

My 12 in the box is rather heavy, and takes up a lot of boot space, which could be handy at times, but i sure do miss not having the sub when i have to remove it.

Cheers

Looks good dude. How deep under the parcel shelf does it go? Do you have LPG by any chance?

Cheers

this is the JBL i have, note its NOT a free air sub, bust still works well.
http://www.jbl.com/EN-US/Products/Pages ... sT=0&ovT=1

the other is a plain looking jaycar sub.. they seem to have lost alot of range lately, i have heard they are going a whole new way with car audio so everything is going cheap

The Jaycar 8" woofer sounds like it might be alright, paper cone sounds cheap but then again the factory 8" subs are probably paper cone anyway. Food for thought. I'll be heading up near my favorite wreckers tomorrow, i think i might pop in & see if they have any to have a look at.

The other night i pulled some trims out of the ED GLI i'm wrecking & swapped them into my EB Ghia - which has had holes in the bottom of the trims behind the seat belt on the B pillar since i bought the car. Not sure why, but the previous owner did have a huge audio setup in the car, maybe it was something to do with that? They have always bugged me, and 6 years on I've done something about it lol, it's bin night on thursday night, so the old trims are in the bin, helping to fill it up. :D

Here's a prep shot of the C pillar cap, after the 2nd coat of paint, before any clear coat has been sprayed on it. Can't wait to get it on the car. That little wooden bench is something my grandfather made up many moons ago, and it's been so handy, painted up a lot of bits on it.

Here's something i've painted up on it back in september 09, mighty boy engine, during assembly on my other work bench.

I guess i should crap on a little about the build of the engine, it owes me roughly $2k and goes like all hell.

I sent the engine off to Mota Craft in Bendigo (i was working up there at the time & the guy knows little suzuki engines) to get the block bored 20tho over, decked, crank ground 10thou under, clean up the conrods, supply new pistons & fit to rods, supply new rings to suit, new bearings and a full gaskit kit. I rebuilt the oil pump with a suzuki kit, and assembled the engine myself on my workbench.

Cylinder head was reco'd with brand new valves, the ports were ported to maximum size, new guides, seals, rocker arms were faced, surface decked a little, all done by Hoppers Express cylinder heads in Hoppers Crossing, Vic. I have had a couple of heads worked on by them, their prices are good value, they are professional & have a quick turn around time on their work. I think this little suzuki cylinder head was head number 5 i have had done by them in the last couple of years.

Anyway, it's late, that's probably enough for you all to read for now. Don't want to bore you all.

Cheers

Wow. Those three pots look easy to work on! I have trouble lifting the six cylinder block in and out of the garage by myself... Looks like you could pick up the whole damn engine there!

You can & i did. You can even pick it up fully assembled, flywheel & all it's just under 40kg iirc. :D

They are not so easy to work on in the engine bay, it's a little tight in some spots, like for an oil filter change, but i'm going to fit a filter relocation kit, so i can fit a bigger filter & be able to change it when it's turbo'd.

Cheers

and IIRC the filter relocation kits come with lines for the oil feed aswell, in N/A cars they just put bolts there.. but depends on kit too

Would still be easy to add a turbo feed and return line to a car with a external relocation already performed I'd imagine (even if the kit didn't have the extra holes built in...)

I've been looking into replacing the I6 pump with a higher flowing unit but... Well... You try finding one and get back to me..!

I've got a JP high volume oil pump in the EB ghia right now. :D

Have a look at this website Fiend, will give you the part number to see if you can get your hands on one over in NZ. www.jp.com.au

Dunno about the relocation kit making it any easier to plumb the oil line for the turbo to be honest. I've already got a T piece setup off the oil sender, to run a pressure gauge while i was running the engine in. I just need to weld in a return bung in my spare sump one day.

We had a huge storm here this arvo, stopped me getting any useful work done, but it's passed now, so i might try to salvage the day & see what i can get done.

Cheers

Thanks for the link dude. Awesome stuff. Although their website appears to have broken images all over it.

Np man. It's not the greatest of page, but it has part numbers. The JP Hi Vol oil pump i have has JP cast on the body of the pump, otherwise it looks like a std pump. I bought it thru repco iirc.

Cheers

I guess i should drop an update into the thread eh? Ok, time for a funny first...

Pepsi, the choice of a new generation... lol

Now onto the car stuff. Been stripping more bits from the ED GLI. It's close to being ready to send off to the big car graveyard (scrap yard). I pulled the roof lining from it, as it's in almost perfect condition, and i'm trying to work out where i'll use it. I was thinking maybe modify it to suit when i install the sunroof, but the roof lining in the white EB Xr8 is in bad shape currently, i might just fit this one to pass the rwc, much quicker than repairing the other one for now. I should repair it & fit it up later tho, as it's the correct color for the interia, Series 1 interia is a darker grey, much darker.
Attachment:
P1010013.JPG

I still have the eb fairmont with sunroof's lining, i should finish cleaning the crap off it & overlay it to see the size & shape differences, just for curiosity.

I fit my freshly painted up C pillar cap onto the car, and altho it has a shine to it, the clear isn't anywhere near as thick & shiny as the rest of the car. On Monday i will take a trip to the local auto paint joint & see if they have another brand of clear in a spray can that i can give a try, and if i can afford it get another can of my paint mixed up, i still need to finish the side skirt repair off.

The new C pillar cap looks a lot better than the old one with pealing clear, but i'm still not 100% satisfied with the results. Here's the old one.
Attachment:
P1010011.JPG

So many things to do still, but slowly one by one getting them done. I'm getting some roof insulation installed in the house on Monday, so probably won't get to work on the car's at all, but that will hopefully save me a couple hundred in heating & cooling bills over the next year, to spend on the car's lol!

Cheers
