I got an email back from ford today, both the Xr8's check out to be genuine factory Xr8 5 spd manuals. That made me smile when i read what Ford had to say.

Haven't done any work on the car's in the last couple of days, but have done some more work on my "parts shed" this arvo after getting a break in the weather.

Cheers

Did a tune up on my g/f's Tx5 turbo on Sunday, inc cleaning the k&n filter out, far out it was full of crap! Took it for a test drive and it was running pretty good, except there was a clunk when i went over a speed hump, around the corner from home. Put the car up on a jack & found the ball joint had popped out on the drivers side!

The suspension arm is buggered, won't hold the ball joint in, and it wasn't that long ago the ball joint & bushes were replaced. Ball joint is still good, so it got spot welded into the arm. Yes i know, we won't get it out, but that's ok, the ball joint should do at least another year service, then i will swap on another suspension arm & redo the bushes.

I also found the bush i was looking for in the shed, the 2nd new leaf has been bushed up for the mighty boy, I might get them swapped in sometime later in the week.

I also start my new job on Saturday, looking forward to having a couple of bucks in my pocket again!

Cheers

Thx dude. Guess where the new job is? Repco! 8-)

Here's an older pic, i might have posted it before, doesn't look too much different to this right now really. I don't mind the AT & AT2 models, this one is the AT model, 2.2 turbo & 5spd manual.

It's my g/f's ride. Runs on 17" rims with 215/45 R17's, mx6 close ratio 5spd, seems like it has a LSD too, kings springs, not sure on height but it's pretty low, it doesn't have a lot of ground clearance, despite looking like it can go lower, it legally can't. 10psi of boost is fun without costing a fortune to run!

Cheers

Yeah, the 2 tone paint work is cool, and very 80's lol. I just wish it was AWD, not FWD! It's a early 88 build, has rather nice sports seats that hug you very tight, ABS, 4 wheel disc, full independent rear end, lots of grunt even off boost, being a 2.2 4 banger. It's a 12valve head, 3 per cyl, 2 intake & 1 exhaust, helps with torque off boost.

I think the stock power is about 110kw, but it's very meaty from 2000 to the red line of 5 or 6,000, i can't remember where it is. That's stock power @ 7psi, it has a bleed valve so it will peak @ 10, hold for a while and fall back to 7 after 4500rpm. It goes a lot harder than the 110kw would make you believe, It has outrun many warm 6cyl car's.

I'd love to put a bigger TB on it, a bigger FMIC & a bigger compressor for the turbo and a bigger dump pipe & cat, then it would really get up. You can buy a plug & play version of the MegaSquirt that plugs in, maybe next year i might just do that........

Yes & no. Above everything else, I've always been a gear head, lol! I still do some work for my own I.T consulting business & trade a few items on eBay here & there, but it's slow going in the I.T game for me atm, not enough cash flow at this stage that i can keep doing it full time, so it's getting kicked back to 2nd position, for a job that will help with regular cash flow. Gotta pay the mortgage & bills.

Why not go work for some I.T company? I have found the pay out there for tech's right now is rather poor considering all the unpaid overtime & traveling i have to do in my own car, that it's just not worth making a boss rich for so little in return.

Cheers

Far out, this poor weather, means i have done nothing to the car's outside. :( I have done a little more work on my "parts shed" and i have found a couple of tools in the shed during a clean up while it was raining the other day. Now the shed is a bit cleaner, i can find the next part that needs to be prep'd & painted up, and make a start on that. If i can get a few good days of weather this week, and i'm not called into work on said good days, progress will happen, I'm sure......

The new job @ Repco is going ok, and it's amazing how cheap parts are at staff pricing. I just need to get my finances back on track before i can get some much needed parts.

Had some fun with a mechanic the other day, he was giving me a bit of mouth because we couldn't supply him the "correct" tie rod end to suit a VS commy (his was a rare fine thread rack - we had no listing in the pc or the books, and i even checked some other tie rod ends from the shelf, couldn't find something that would work in stock).

He was complaining that we need "real mechanics" behind the counter at repco. So i had a bit of a discussion with him about "my" car's and what i've done to them, inc mods & so on. He changed his attitude with me after that, he worked out i wasn't just a sales guy going off what the computer said.

Cheers

Staff discount is about 10% off as I heard or you managed to get more? Taking into account that Repco have not the lowest prices in town it’s not that bloody cheap or I am wrong?
Mechanics are the worst customers for every part shop. lol

Without giving away secret's that is so much closer to the truth. Some would be gobsmacked how cheap some things are and how big of a mark up there is on many parts! Repco might not be the cheapest, but i know a number of parts that are cheaper than bursons, i used to shop there a lot.

Yeah huggie, gotta love the mechanics that go off all high & mighty before they realize you do know your way around a car, and have rebuilt just about every part on at least one of your own car's in the last couple of years!

I have delt with a fair few of our trade customers, and most of them are pretty easy to deal with. Altho i must say they are a bit worried when they see the "In Training" badge i have to wear atm, until speaking with me & realizing i know a fair bit about car's. A couple of them even recognized me as being a mighty boy owner! AFAIK there are only 3 in the local area, 2 black & my white one.

Cheers

After market injectors. Good question. I was asked a similar question on saturday, a dude looking for bosch injectors, 42lb like what some mustang 5lt v8's ran in the states. Our computer doesn't have many listings for injectors, but there might be some in the Repco performance catalog, available from stores. I think it's currently volume 3. We gave the guy a catalog & he was going to check it out.

Cheers

The weather wasn't too bad today, so i got a little progress done on the Eb Ghia, and found 3 issues, two are an easy fix, the other will take a bit of work & thinking to get it resolved.

I pulled the extractors off the car to fix the last welsh plug on that side. The extractors are leaking a bit at the weld on the flange, so i will be taking them to the exhaust shop in the morning to get welded up. Other issue i found that was easy to fix was the vac line to the booster had a split in it, at the rear, you couldn't see it until i removed the hose. I have a good hose to go on, so it's all good.

The issue that's harder to fix is with the injector wiring loom. Injector 3's connector has come apart, and the way the LPG joint cut the earth wire to integrate it to the LPG injection ecu is rather dodgy. So i'm going to restore the wire where they cut it, and make the cut elsewhere in the injector loom. There are a couple of wires in the injector loom that have been cut & integrated into the lpg. These will be reworked so they come out to a plug on the firewall, and i will fit a plug on the LPG loom there to plug the injector loom into. This will make it so much easier to work on in the future, while solving the dodgy wiring the LPG joint did in the first place.

It took ages to remove the intake manifold, due to the LPG wiring. GRRRR. Oh well, got the following done today:

    1. Welsh plugs replaced.
    2. Oil sender replaced (old one was playing up)
    3. Replaced the accelerator cable (old one was broken & getting sticky  )

Later this morning, the extractors will get welded up, and i will pickup the 2 gaskits from work that i need, then i can piece the car back together & work on that injector wiring loom. I have a spare injection loom i can pinch a petrol injector pigtail from to repair petrol injector #3's plug.

welsh plug work.JPG

Anyway, I'm off to bed, need a couple hrs sleep before i get back up to work on the car.

Cheers

good to hear you have most of it sorted toranadude lol

i feel your pain with injector wires going dodgy, i had to work on a mates car which would only work the injectors if you pushed on them due to the wires... was a PITA to figure out
