Found out why it hasn't been assessed yet, panel beaters have not submitted the quote yet, due to the door trim!

It's obsolete thru ford, but was $550 when available. The little bolt & plate that holds the clutch lever/fork in the gearbox is also obsolete i was advised. That sucks. Monday i need to either get the trimmers to quote me or supply a quote from ford. I have had no luck turning up either 1 trim or a set of 4 atm.

Cheers

The Trim can't be repaired. It's a write off, good to salvage the leather insert & that's it.

I might have found a replacement. But i have not yet discussed it with the insurance assessor, they have the quote from the panel shop, just need to get them to come out & assess the car.

Oh yeah, here's some Xr lights to tease WILDEB with. No dude, they are not for sale.

Wiring looms are there too, plug & play aside the indicator lens issue, but i can get a replacement indicator for not too much money, and i also have a clear left side that isn't a Xr spec here that i could pillage the lens off it & glue it to the Xr light if i really wanted to.

Also been busy working on a rocker cover for my 253 in the panel van. I was sick of looking at rusted covers, and with such poor weather I'm rather limited in what i can do, as there isn't enough room in the shed to do bigger items, so i have been working on the rocker cover, just put a coat of paint on it tonight, will leave it a few days, rub it back & put another coat or two on...

I wasn't s**t that i had a set, but no way are they for sale. Hell, now that i'm looking at keeping the white Xr8, I'm thinking that i should get myself a set for it too, down the track, if i can get them for a good price.

This set only needs a couple of plastic adjuster cups replaced as well as that indicator repaired or replaced. That Xr8, even tho it needed work & still does need a little bit more, was a good buy, I will probably have it on the road for no more than $3k with rego paid. It's worth about $7k according to some market value insurance quotes i have had for it. I have seen a few sell for around $5k mark, but they were completely stockers....

Anyway, i did some work on the EB the other day. Swapped the coolant header tank over with a spare i have, no more leaks. I broke the sensor trying to get it out of the leaky tank tho, so p****d about that! Also changed my front brake pads, old ones didn't have much left on them, glad i changed them now, in 1000 more kms it would have been getting down to metal. I didn't get around to changing the belts, got too dark, but that might happen this w/e if i get the time.

Cheers

Hey Torana guy, just wonder what you Hz is like? I'm fixing up one very similar and wondering what set up you have, I know its a 253 like mine.

Nice rocker covers by the way, should look good in the engine bay, I'm doing mine is anodised red.

Hey mate,

The Hz, umm, it has a pretty good body on it, has had the rear quarters changed at one stage in it's life. Only problem rust is the passenger side foot well. I wire wheeled it & hit it with rust kill ages ago to stop it rusting, just have not yet cut it out & welded in the replacement floor pan section. I should do that one day soonish, I'm sick of it being in my linen closet (repair floor pan that is). There's a bit of panel damage around one tail light that i have to finish fixing up, and a couple more tiny dints, otherwise the body is very, very clean. No plenum rust! Doors are clean, sills are clean as they can be!

The covers should look good in the engine bay, and probably put the rest of the engine to shame. It might need welsh plugs before i get it on the road, and I think the auto isn't too crash hot, so i might rip them out & rebuild the auto, fit a new set of welsh plugs and paint the engine up while it's out. I did a quick reco on it years ago before it first when in, but didn't tart it up at all. I don't have extractors, but i should get a set when i have a few bucks to spend on the van. For now, only little jobs that i already have parts & materials can go ahead due to budget issues. :(

Sounds like your rocker covers are going to look real good in anodised red! I thought about doing something like that, but decided against it, as this is supposed to be a clean stock engine just to power the van, nothing over the top. The torana's engine is the one getting the bling, all the chrome bits & so on.

Cheers

They do make a sweet ride, I bought mine just after I turned 18 and not being able to drive a v8 till I'm on full licence its been a project, my goal is have it rego'd by my 21st so i have 8 months left tomorrow.

Mine has a 253 bored out 060, extractors and just got full acl race series rebuild kit, 4th biggest cam crow cams do for them (16) or so all up, crow double row chain, hi po springs and lifters.
Also have 4bbl 425 impco gas carby.

Just needs the heads done for running straight gas and 4bbl manifold.

With an m21 (close ratio 4spd for who don't know) and 3.55 diff should go a bit better :p

That they do man, i have had this van for just over 6 years now, slowly hoarding bits & working on it. I never set a goal of when to have it on the road, probably should have, but there isn't much point to rushing it, i have 2 car's on the road atm, hopefully joined by my Xr8 by my birthday in October at the latest.

With the m21 & 3.55 up the rear, it will go rather well, even if it was only stock, but it will be pulling a few rev's on the freeway. Being on straight LPG will help to keep the costs down. I know my 253 has been bored out, i can't remember if it's 20 or 40 over, been too long since the heads were off & bores measured. I know it sounds rather mean without extractors, so i have to wonder if it has something other than a stock cam in it. It's currently got a 4bbl rochester carby, fully reco & I have a sprint gas new gen mixer to go ontop. I won't hookup the gas gear until after it's registered, so if the LPG rebate exists by then, i can claim it, as this van has never been on LPG, all the gear is from the HJ van i wrecked out years ago.

I have an electronic dizzy setup from a VH 253 i wrecked out years ago, that i have still not fit. I should turn my hand to that one day soon, another little project i can do that won't cost me any money. I have the relays, 30amp wire & so on that i require to do that job. :D

Cheers

Time for a quickie update.

The paint is dry on the rocker cover, so soon i need to rub it back & apply another coat. Then i need to pickup some engine "clear" high temp stuff for it, should be able to get some thru work. Today i also managed to get myself some more parts i need to do the power window mod on the red Xr8, and a few other little bits i need for both car's.

Gotta get to bed, have work @ 8am, selling car parts. My life seems to be getting more & more to do with car's as the days drag on!

Cheers

Picked up my next parts car today. More than a few really good bits on it, so pretty happy with the purchase. There is also plenty of bits to sell off too, to make some money back on it. It's a EB 2 Fairmont Ghia with premo sound option, all the gear except the head unit is still in place, inc the sub lol.

Has an after market cd stacker but no cassette for the stacker unfortunately. Has a nice set of 17" CSA prowlers (I think they are called that) with so close to brand new tyres on them that it's not funny. Only very minor gutter rash too, so should look good on one of my rides. :D Pitty it has a leaky radiator from the front end bingle, as it drives rather well, interior needs a good clean & it seems to have plenty of power.....

Anyway, got lots to do, will get a few pics up sometime soon. Might put the new wheels on my EB Ghia for a photo shoot, then onto the white Xr8 and see which one they look better on.

Cheers

Nope, not yet dude. Car has been approved for repairs except the door trim. Not happy about that, but i can't do much about it. I'm talking with the panel shop soon about when i can deliver the panels & car to them, but they have been down a couple of staff due to the flu recently, and are pretty busy, so the SAGA CONTINUES....

On a positive note, I reckon i can use my "parts car" as a test bed for installing my sunroof! I can cut the hole in the roof & play with doing it to make sure i don't make a mistake when it comes time to install it in one of my other car's....

Cheers

I don't think it is the same as a DC LTD. I thought i posted up a pic in this thread, but maybe not..... Here's the drivers rear door, not the one i was after, but shows what the trim is...

I have picked up a trim, just s**t that i have to pay for it out of my own back pocket! On the up side, i have a nice new set of wheels, and some other spares i need to keep working on the Xr8's, and there is also a few bits to sell off like the following...

    Auto
    LSD
    Possibly the engine
    Front suspension bits
    Rear Self Leveling Suspension bits
ABS Bits (unless i want to do a conversion)

Cheers

You can compare your trim with my LTD DC trim:
