Thx WildEB! Timing chain hasn't slipped. All valves move. Will pull the head off maybe later this week, once the Ghia is back on the road & at the panel shop getting it's new bits fit & painted up. I want to see if there is any piston damage, i doubt it, but will be interesting.
Owen is a qualified mechanic, never seen anything like that, only ever one or two at most, not 3 completely broken & another half broken! Yeah, got me a bit stumped. Maybe the lifters jammed up & fatigued the rockers? Yep, at idle was a good effort. Maybe the Ghia b**ch is crying out for a v8 conversion? I must admit i have been known to hit the red line a few times, but i usually swap cogs at 4500 rpm at most, because going past that there just isn't any more power anyway. Swapping cogs at about 2500-3000 gives good excitement without too heavy of fuel usage i have found. Ready for removal... Attachment: P1010028.JPG Attachment: P1010031.JPG Attachment: P1010032.JPG Attachment: P1010034.JPG Attachment: P1010035.JPG On another note, i sold a headlight to a dude today, and he offered me $30 more to fit it for him, so i thought why not, and did it. Only took 10mins, wasn't a bad little earner that one. Anyway, i need to go clean up some more, then do some laundry, dishes & cook some tea. Then i need to get a few hrs sleep & get up in the morning, gotta remove an auto from my new engine, remove the manifolds & fit new welsh plugs before i go to work @ 12:30. Man, my place sure looks like a mechanical workshop or wrecking yard atm lol. My poor neighbours, but they know the silver bomb won't be here too long. WILDEB wrote: wow. good job lol. sucks hard though. maybe it does need a V8 or maybe just a turbo to teach it a lesson Thx dude. But i still trail my g/f by 2 engines, if we are counting engines destroyed this decade, lol. I don't plan on catching up either! I reckon a v8 conversion isn't as worthwhile as a turbo install would be on this car. I'd have to either upgrade the LPG injection or make some sort of electronic boost cut so it doesn't boost much on LPG. I reckon a turbo + lpg upgrade would probably set me back $5k, me doing all the work. Too far out of possible atm. Plus i still need a few more bits for my turbo setup in the mighty boy, and i don't have the funds for them right now either. Even tho my tax return is coming in, i can't spend it on turbo parts, but i can maybe pay the rego on the white Xr8. Cheers ToranaGuy

Left the oil cap off the mighty boy, spun a big end bearing, which was 31.98mm in size lol, what a "big end" ha ha. Next was breaking a ring in the rebuilt mighty boy engine. Then there was her first Tx5 turbo engine, heater core rusted thru, didn't notice car getting sluggish as it got way too hot & killed the engine. It could have been shut down & saved if she had of noticed the the way the car was running & pulled over then shut it down. Oh well, live & learn. Cheers ToranaGuy

Pull the broken bits out & turn the motor over by hand, cam turns fine. I got my clutch fork bolt shims today from ford, but i have to work tomorrow morning. So i'm going to see if i can't get the gearboxes swapped around, do the welsh plugs & get it ready to be dropped in, and tomorrow after work, only working til 1, i will see if i can slide the engine back in & get it running. Cheers ToranaGuy

Other option is it may be something wrong with chain guides.

Installing engines in the rain is so much fun, not! It's in the bay, but i just can't get the mounts lined up correctly. Oh well, time for some food, a rum or two & a think i think......
I wanted to get the engine in tonight, that way i can sort all the little bits out tomorrow, and get it running, on my day off work. Pending it not raining like it has been tonight. Anyway, time to get back to my food. Nom nom nom....lol Cheers ToranaGuy

Rain rain, go away & come back another day, when TG doesn't have to install an engine in his driveway!
I guess it forces me into the shed to do other bits in there, can't say there is nothing that needs doing can I? Cheers ToranaGuy
