Went for a little country road trip this evening up to Gisborne, and picked up a set of thermo fan's to slot into the red Eb Xr8.

Now all i need to do is bend out the front straight enough i can fit the cans & zip tie them in, and the engine can be run for more than a few seconds without loosing it's cool. Tomorrow night I'm playing musical car's, so if i get some time after ripping the diff out of the parts car, i might see to pulling the red Xr8's nose somewhat back into shape. If not tomorrow night, maybe over the weekend.....

Cheers

Too true. They do take time, and every little bit of progress is uplifting. Even if it's only gathering up the parts you need to complete the job.

Cheers

Thx dude. If they are not close to where you live, then it would be hard getting time to work on them. I sometimes find it hard to get enough time to work on mine & they are right here with me at my place!

I've got the w/e off work this w/e, so if the weather is good enough, some good progress should be able to happen.

On another note, i got a letter back from James Merlino MP, minister for sport, recreation & youth affairs. I emailed them about building a new drag racing facility. As expected, the letter back is full of negativity, such as the costing of the facility, being so difficult to find an appropriate site, and environmental considerations.

All issues that have been addressed if he would just read the reports & feasibility studies already done!

I'm going to write a reply to the letter. Just to help keep the pressure up, as on this side of town, calder park is a joke when it comes to drag racing! I don't see how they can spend so much money on stadiums that don't pay off for so many years, when it's been found that a new drag racing venue will pay off really quickly!

Politicians!

Cheers

I can understand that.

On another note, i got my Ford Xf to EL diag unit from Muzza yesterday. Should be very helpful in working out issues quickly, instead of poking around & swapping parts that don't solve the problem lol!

Cheers

With your headlights, i would save up for the HID kit, you wouldn't have to upgrade your wiring or alternator because they draw a less current then what your current lights do.

You would actually have enough head room to fit a couple of spot lights without over loading the alternator.

So does the cost of a alternator and time spent rewiring the headlight circuit + wiring, relays, etc become more expensive then a HID kit?

Good question. I do know they draw less than std globes, the HID kits. I have helped fit one to a mates car. I was going to fit a bigger alternator from a Daewoo Matiz anyway, they are the same physical size but put out more at idle & at full noise. Will be needing to do that when I convert the mighty boy to EFI. There isn't much headroom left in the alternator atm, not enough for EFI, I have a mate who found that out the hard way.

To do a HID conversion, i need some H4 type headlights for the car anyway, as it currently has sealed beam headlights. :( My new front bar has driving lights that might improve things enough that i won't bother with a headlight conversion for a while. Won't know until i get the bar fit, and the new lights wired up.

I got some help moving car's from my cousin, so car's are moved around, and I found the grommets i ordered to suit my rocker covers on the panel van are wrong, so I can't get the van running again just yet.

Cheers

Saturday I had the pleasure (pain?) of swapping the starter motor on my brothers 89 tarago van. At least the starter is easy to get at, but the wreckers supplied me the wrong one. Very p****d off at that, as their customer service was poor to start with. They better swap it for the correct one, else it will be going up the pricks a***!

I had a bit of fun with a dodgy ryco z125 oil filter today, I did an oil & filter change on the mighty boy, and within 15 seconds a hole blew out the side of the new filter & spewed the sump load of all everywhere.  Great way to waste 2.5ltrs of oil and make a bloody big mess!

Luckily I had enough oil for another sump full, and digging thru the shed i found another filter, a repco brand one this time. Changed the filter again, filled it up with oil & all is good. Last time i bother spending the extra on a Ryco oil filter, most of them are made in china anyway!

On a happier note i got a little more cleaning up done in the shed today, found a few tools I had lost. Still can't find the other 2 dizzies I am sure I have, need to rape them for TFI's. Also got time to read over the manual for the new diag unit I bought of Muzza. Didn't get to play with it on my mates EF this w/e like I hoped, we have both been too busy.

Anyway, stuff to do, will update later.

Cheers

That's for sure, yet they are still priced pretty much the same. I know more than a few mechanics that don't use them anymore, their reason is why pay a premium for a filter that's "still made in china"? I agree with them. I'm now going to use repco filters where I can, with my staff discount a repco oil filter is about $3 for a ford falcon lol. I bought a fuel filter for the mighty boy the other day, Ryco is about $13 staff price, repco was $4. :-)

You got your car sorted to be able to make it down next w/e?

Cheers

yeh put a new master cylinder on but i heard the anodized fitting on the rear brake outlet colour means different things. like the difference between ute, wagon and sedan. now the EB original one was green, the new one is red and the brakes feel s**t, like when you first use the pedal its stiff and then goes down

I've seen green one's on ABS & non-abs early E series sedan's. Can't remember ever seeing a red one. You might wanna look into the pbr catalog about that one man.

EDIT: Some stuff from the pbr catalog...

ACTUATION Brake M/Cyl 07/1991 - 07/1993 SEDAN, ABS, NON-ABS, V8, XR6 MODEL, 23.81/31.75 mm B227-038
ACTUATION Brake M/Cyl 07/1991 - 07/1993 SEDAN, ABS, NON-ABS, 6 CYL, EXCEPT XR6 MOD, 23.81/31.75 mm P10211
ACTUATION Brake M/Cyl 07/1991 - 07/1993 S/WAGON, ABS, NON-ABS, 6 CYL, EXCEPT XR6 MOD, 23.81/31.75 mm P10212
ACTUATION Brake M/Cyl 07/1991 - 07/1993 S/WAGON, ABS, NON-ABS, V8, XR8 MODEL, 23.81/31.75 mm B227-012

Looks like there is 4 different master's?

Cheers
