My sister wants to borrow my 6x4 trailer, so I won't be able to get down to the wreckers, but I will be close to home if I'm not home.
I should change the coil in the EB Ghia today, that's the last part of the ignition system to change to see if I can get the LPG working properly again. Cheers ToranaGuy

Just worked out a solution to my leaking top radiator hose, thanks to the davies craig thermo fan probe.
Bottom of the radiator has a drain plug, will get a temp switch/probe & stick it in there, and rewire my thermo fan install to use this to trigger. Cheers ToranaGuy

I also had a leaking top radiator hose due to a thermo switch probe and I changed my hose clamps over the ones which are nearly a inch wide and have had no leaks since.
Could be something for you to try cheers, bear |

But arnt the sensors put in the top hose because its the hottest. After the radiators done its job the coolant at the bottom should be a bit cooler.
Or is tempriture differance not as much as im thinking it would be. |

i also agree, your ment to have the sensor at the to as you want he fans to kick in when the motor is warm/hot not hot/hot by the time the water at the bottom becomes hot enough to set off the sensor it may be too late, especially if towing

A lot of factory car's run the sensor in the bottom of the radiator without any issues. The fan kicks in a fair few degree's before the water is at boiling temp, so the temp difference between top rad hose & bottom of the radiator shouldn't make much difference, in a street car. In a race car however, it may make a lot of difference.
Fatter clamps may be an idea, we have some heavy duty clamps that look like small versions of the T clamps the turbo guys use, might think about giving one a try. At the end of the day, the wiring would be neater with a switch in the bottom of the radiator. Someone has suggested the Jaycar kit & use the probe at the thermostat housing that the climate control uses. Something else to look into, but that might cost more, I already have a few temp switches handy, and I'd like to solve this issue without spending any money if I could, need to spend money on other projects. Cheers ToranaGuy

my clamps cost me $2 each at supercheap and with a good smear of silicon havent had a leak and well worth it.
before i changed over to the fatter clamps i continually got a hissing noise and leak from the top radiator hose picture of said hose clamps Attachment: clamp.jpg if you decide to go this way and have trouble finding them, send me a pm and i will find my spares 12 of the buggers followed me home and i even changed my botton hose clamps to this style of hose clamps cheers, bear You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. |

Thanks Bear, but I won't have trouble finding them, I work for Repco. I know we have some on the shelf at work, and I can order them in any size available fairly cheaply (staff price).
Cheers ToranaGuy

even 2 or 3 normal ones will do the job, bunnings sell the normal ones in the gardening section upto 5" for less then $1 or the 4-5 inch clamps are $1.20 or something but still hell cheaper then the plumbing section or supercrap

Huggie,
Nice find man, that thing looks pretty clean, and with a 347 & T5 would be some fun to drive! I can see why my g/f likes them in red, looks hot lol. Plus that one has a sunroof, which will make my g/f nag me more to get her Xr8 on the road & get a sunroof in it lol. Anyway, did some work on the daily tonight. Swapped in a new coil & fit some sealant to the top rad hose, as I didn't have the correct size clamps for it at work (I have a box of 10 on order ), now the hose doesn't leak & the car runs on LPG almost properly again. I say almost because I have 2 issues with it still. It will drive upto 3,000 rpm, then it f@rt around. Issue #1 is injector number 1, seems to be not opening much, or it's jammed almost fully open. 2nd issue is to do a proper repair on the power feed to the gas ecu, I still have the temp fix in place. I refit the stock radiator to the mighty boy the other night & a new rad cap, took it for a spin & it holds correct temp now, so at least I can buzz around in it to save a bit of fuel until I get a new injector for the ghia's gas injection. I'm going to drive the ghia to work tomorrow & see how it runs, might run good enough to be on LPG & saving me some $$$, that will end up buying the injector lol. My best mate is supposed to be coming over on Tuesday evening, as I have Wednesday off work, so weather pending, will be getting some work done on the car's. Which one, dunno, might remove the bent rad support off the red xr8.... Cheers ToranaGuy

If it was a petrol injector, no problemo, I have about 10 in the shed still, after giving a work mate a set last week lol. His AU has a couple of leaking petrol injectors, causes the car to run poorly on LPG until the fuel is drained from the fuel rail, then it runs fine. So I gave him a set of EA-ED injectors that are working ok to slap in, as he is only planning on selling the AU shortly anyway. Cheers ToranaGuy
