It's not oil it was burning, it's coolant. I think it's popped the head gaskit. Slightly milky in the valve cover & in the sump. Not majorly, but it is, and it's lost coolant. Adding those two together = head gaskit. Awww s**t, wonder what it's going to cost for some gaskits to fix it? Wonder if I can get them tomorrow?

While I'm there I might as well pull it all out, fix my new f8b gearbox (better final drive ratio), and do the timing belt & tensioner too.

At least the EB Ghia runs atm, but that T5 is going to drive me up the wall. UPS, hurry up & deliver my damn syncro set!

Cheers

s**t man. your having bad luck with cars lately

Thanks Brenton,

Even my mum said that last night lol.

Picked up a vrs set for under $80 delivered, not too bad at all. So with oil, filter & coolant, probably a $125 repair job, plus a few hours of my time (going to do timing belt & tensioner as well as fit the correct gearbox too.)

Drove the Ghia to work today, and on the way home the gearbox almost completely let go! I could feel it slapping around inside the box. It will not be driven again until the box is done, just can't risk it.

Cheers

I know what you mean man, thanks for the kind words.

I've gotta get the mighty boy running again for work next week. The EB, well I could pull the new T5 apart, and if the syncro's don't look warn or burnt, just reco it with what I have, but I'd prefer to do the whole lot...

Cheers

Got the spare head on, a tiny bit of oil smoke in the exhaust, but I can live with that for now. That will be from dry valve stem seals. Will drop the cracked head into the cylinder head joint to get a diagnosis if it is repairable one day soon. Hope so, it cost me $500 to have reco less than 10,000 kms ago, all the ports have been ported, brand new valves, seats & guides fit, rockers were surfaced smooth again too.

Here's a few pics.....

The engine sounds different with the "spare" head on, which has stock ports. Doesn't sound as meaty :-( I should get a couple of pics of the port work. While I was in there, I found 050 on the top of the pistons, to do with the oversize. That's 50thou up iirc.

Cheers

Thanks man, I hope so too. If I didn't have to spend all weekend working on this, well all the daylight hours, I could have got a lot done on the Xr8's I reckon. Ah well, hopefully next weekend is good weather!

I've picked up a little electric heater (cheap) for my shed, so hopefully one evening this week I will get out & give it a trial, see if it does enough to allow me to work in the shed without freezing my a*** off, being asthmatic and in a cold shed isn't fun at all......

Cheers

Thought it was time for a pic of the Eb Ghia, shot this outside work last friday night, with my workmates VP sitting next to it. Not a brilliant pic, but you can see how the blue valve cover stands out, and the csa prowlers I currently have on the Ghia.

I finally got the puncture fixed in the front passenger tyre early last week, been meaning to do it for a few weeks lol. A bloody big bolt went into the tyre but it wasn't leaking air, so I left it for a while.

It would look good with flares on I think, and the mirror bases painted gloss black too. Awww s**t, just added something else to the list lol.

Cheers

RE: heater - i use a cheap $10 heater from crazy clarks and it makes my 4 bay garage (with gaps in every panel between wall and the floor of the 2nd story..) does the job nicely.

i use a 2nd one in the bedroom and it takes less then 10 minutes to get to the point of turning it off for the night.

RE: EB - i have a pair of gloss black mirrors from the LTD lol. i think you need some dished rims to go with the flairs

So far tonight the heater isn't doing too badly, but I don't think I want to know how much power it's pulling.....

In regards to the flares & deep dish rims. I can't afford any new rims for a while yet, but yeah it would look very cool.

I sold a set of kings lows the other night, that put a few bucks into the "bathroom reno" fund lol. Getting closer to having enough cash to make a start on that, I need to do that before I get new rims lol.

Cheers

Really missing driving my EB Ghia - missing RWD action! Gearbox syncro's still have not arrived, USPS have them in transit, that's all. Bugger! Too busy until next week to rebuild the box anyway.

Found a spare set of mirrors in the shed, might have to find some time to do something about tarting them up. lol.

Cheers

Syncro's arrived today, glad they have finally arrived. Gearbox rebuild can begin anytime soon that I have the time. Yay.

In other news the mighty boy has stopped burning a tiny bit of oil, looks like the valve stem seals are lubed up lol.

Cheers

Yep, seen that one before, pulled a mean skid before the blower. ;-)

2010 Toyota corolla's suck! I rented one in Perth for the last few days(got home this morning). Fine for a car for your aunty or mum who doesn't like rwd, otherwise only good for a rental buzz box! However it did have good economy, averaging around 7/100, considering it's a heavy car for a "small car".

Cheers
