Finally took the the dizzy with a spanner tonight, on the mighty boy. Got the timing set a lot better. Heaps more low down power now, but I think it still needs another degree or two in it. Until the weekend, it will be fine tho. I think I should try & get the correct flywheel, however I have a feeling I have one somewhere in all the mighty boy spares.
Also been checking out a bottom rollaway 5 draw Supatool tool cabinet, to go with my 6 draw Supatool top piece, bunnings have them on sale atm, and I can use some more draws to neatly pack my ever growing pile of tools away. They also have a kinchrome 7 draw rollaway as well, that matches my 6 draw & 3 draw units I already have. Should be getting a good tax return so I'm seriously considering a kinchrome one as well. A neater shed with tidy organized tools makes doing jobs so much quicker & easier. Even just the tools I currently have my draws, it's made a huge difference. Cheers ToranaGuy

The weather is rather nice for winter down here, wish it would stay this way for a few weekends, get some stuff done!
Doing an oil change to better quality oil in the mighty boy, and gotta rip a few more parts off the silver EB I'm wrecking... Cheers ToranaGuy

Photo time - only a little work done lately, a replacement coolant pipe for the mighty boy, one in the ute has broken both it's mounting tabs, so I'm fixing up the spare to go in. Sick of it rattling in the engine bay....
Had to weld up a crack in a previous repair on this one, then I cleaned it up further with the wire wheel, hit it with some paint & primer. Just waiting for it to dry before fitting. Weather reports make it look like it will be at least a week before I fit this, damn rain! Cheers ToranaGuy

what were the manufacturers thinking when they design pipes like that. do they really think the mounts won't break off after 20 years of driving. but i guess once it's out of warranty minor things like that don't worry them

That's right man, designed for a 5 year life span. They don't want dudes like us driving them in 20 to 30 years, well not without spending up on spare parts lol.
Yeah it could be better engineered, but then it would be heavier, which costs fuel economy. Remember, the mighty boy was built cheaply, as a bare bones utility vehicle for the Tokyo inner city streets & lane ways, as well as other major Jap cities. Wasn't designed to live more than 5 years or survive Aussie conditions. Have all the heater hoses & top + bottom radiator hoses on order, should have them all by the weekend, then it will have a compliment of new hoses, first since 1986 I think lol. Cheers ToranaGuy

Not a brilliant pic, but you can see how the blue valve cover stands out, and the csa prowlers I currently have on the Ghia. I finally got the puncture fixed in the front passenger tyre early last week, been meaning to do it for a few weeks lol. A bloody big bolt went into the tyre but it wasn't leaking air, so I left it for a while. It would look good with flares on I think, and the mirror bases painted gloss black too. Awww s**t, just added something else to the list lol. Cheers ToranaGuy Nice EB mate, those rims suit the car! |

I've got a few sets of rims for the Eb's, almost to the point of silly lol. WildEB - I should replace the last couple of hoses in the EB Ghia when it's back on the road, there's one heater hose, and the two 3/8 overflow tank hoses yet to be done. All the new hoses have arrived for the mighty boy, hoping to change them all this weekend. Cheers ToranaGuy

Changed all the hoses on the mighty boy today, and the outlet on the radiator cracked! Oh s**t! Lucky I have a spare radiator, not in brilliant shape but good enough to keep it running for now.
Going to look at cleaning it up & soldering the crack up in the next day or two, if that doesn't work, next weekend I'm going to have to make up the brackets to fit my new alloy radiator. I rekcon that will take the best part of a day, that I wanted to dedicate to something else atm. Ah well, on a positive note, I have bought a new Supatool tool rollaway & middle add on draws, fit my old supatool chest to the top of them. Plenty of tools now packed in the draws, should make it easier & quicker to work on the car's now. Cheers ToranaGuy

Haven't had time to try repair the f8b radiator, but the old f5a (smaller radiator) is holding up ok for now. Picked up a rack repair kit & some new rack boots tonight, that's another job that needs to be done lol.
Also had 2 guys rock up & ask if I wanted to sell any of the EB's. Not for sale, well yet anyway. I want to have a little fun with them before I consider selling one.. Cheers ToranaGuy

Been a busy day today, got a little work done on repairing one of the flares for the EB Ghia, and fixed a loose timing cover in the mighty boy. Also did some more panel beating on the Red Xr8, drivers side front inner guard is in a good enough spot now, just gotta work on the other side & the front of the rail...
Also pulled the pulley off the power steer pump in the white Xr8, worked out what sockets I need, female torx type, so I can remove it to put a seal kit thru it. Might also put in a new bearing while I'm there..... Will try and pickup the tools needed at work this week. Cheers ToranaGuy

Got the socket set that I need today before work, also got some more spot weld cutters & a spring loaded center punch, to make life a tad easier. No pics of the new tools yet, but have these pics....
Pulley removed with the correct removal tool, makes the job so easy. Awww s**t, there's these strange looking bolts I don't have tools for when the pic was taken. Excuse to buy new tools lol. Here's a pic of the tool chest bits I bought recently (black parts - had red top section already), torry is just visable, to show how tall the chest is. Makes life easier & jobs quicker, when I know where all my tools are. Just need to get a Kinchrome bottom rolla chest for my other Kinchrome bits, then I'm just about set..... Here's a very cool tool, big time saver. Very worth the money to buy, retails about $100, I paid a bit less than that thru work, but can't let the cat outta the bag on how much......it's for those bastard hose clamps that are spring loaded....like those on the heater core on a E series, man are those hard to get at with pliers. Not with this baby! I have a few more tools on the list to buy: 9 inch demolition grinder/cutter Air powered sander unit Small heat gun I guess that's enough for now. Cheers ToranaGuy
