Thx Rick. Can't say I've ever done a BTR before tho.

We ran out of degreaser to clean the inside of the extension housing tonight, so didn't fit it up. Going to pick up some more at work tomorrow, and hopefully finish the box after work.

Cheers

Been a little busy recently, with family events & so on, have not had time until today (saturday) to fit the reco T5 to the EB Ghia.....

So after some help from my mate Mat today, I have removed the stuffed T5 from the Eb Ghia & fit the reco box. Taken it for a test drive, couldn't wipe the smile from my dial! So great to have it running again.

I just need to baby it for a couple thousand kays to run it in....

I did find a surprise when I pulled the clutch off the firewall, the clutch plate had snapped in a couple of places! There is very little wear in the friction material tho..... I wonder why? Input shaft bearing was collapsed in the old box, it's damaged the teeth on the input shaft, so it's now just a clutch alignment tool, will strip the box down sometime & see what if anything is salvageable from it.

I'll post up a few pics soon.

Cheers

That it is dude. Flogged out is almost the words for the old box. The input bearing that sits between the input & main shafts had failed seriously, causing a world of trouble for the old box. I dunno how much I will be able to salvage from it, but reasonably priced inputs, gears & so on are available from the USA, so it might be able to be saved.....

It's partly from me taking so long to do something about the noisy box, and partly because it took so long for my rebuild parts to arrive, then too much s**t weather, not being able to do the job. Ah well, s**t happens.

Cheers

Pics time.

Image
Input shaft - awww crap. It's stuffed.

Image
Old T5 with the retainer off - retainer didn't have much wear on it, could have reused it. Will keep it as a spare. Bearing remains on the ground.

Image
Old T5 & the Reco T5. Swapped over the sensors & bell housing, installed the new thrust bearing & fit it to the Eb Ghia.

Image
Old clutch plate - oops. My mechanic mate says this is due to the stuffed bearing in the input shaft. Pitty, there's plenty of meat left on this clutch! Pressure plate is in great shape too, so it's being kept as a spare.

Drove the Eb Ghia today, the box is as tight as a nuns you know what. Shifts so firm, can't wait til it loosens up a tad. Was great to be back behind the wheel of it.

Also picked up my new shift boot from work today, picked it up from City Ford, just under $50 trade. Same part from EA thru to BA 5spd, for the rubber boot that seals dirt & crap out of the shifter mech.....I should pickup a short shifter on Ebay USA soon I reckon. They are so much cheaper over there.

Cheers

Nice Job!

I would love to drive a Newish T5 compared to my one.

Mine is quite notchy and can be difficult to get into first gear at times.

Problem is I don't know if this is 'normal' or not LOL.

Cheers

Thanks BenJ - You prob seen the pics up on Fb yesterday anyway.

Notchy can be caused by worn teflon tips(replaceable) on the shifter forks or a worn bush in the shifter, it's only a plastic bush where the ball of the shifter goes into the shift rod, difficult to get into gear is usually syncro's that are a tad worn or a clutch that isn't disengaged far enough. The teflon tips are easy to replace, you can even get bronze items for "performance" applications. I couldn't stretch the already blown to hell budget to get them, maybe next rebuild?

My box is very tight, but smooth thru the gears. It feels very positive when shifting it.

A gear puller & a good size press is required for a rebuild ;-) I'd be thinking you could borrow those to get the job done if you don't already have them. Import the rebuild bits as they are way too expensive down under! I could have bought 2 bearing kits from the USA for what one cost me locally, trade price!

Cheers

Next piece of the puzzle. The item I have on the gearbox isn't in the greatest shape. I called Westpoint Ford & was advised you can't get these. Called City Ford, the computer said none available for EA thru ED - suggested they check the listing for the BA 5spd - this is the part it come up with. It's the same dust cover..... I guess my time as a spare parts b**ch is paying off, got it at trade price, after being advised it wasn't available. lol.

Image

Won't bother to fit this until I can muster up a short shifter, might have one of those soon.... :)

I also priced up a "stock au" mls gaskit, as well as the after market performance versions. The AU item is rather affordable, being 1/3rd the price of the after market performance versions. If this head gaskit leak doesn't bugger off now I have 2 canisters of silver seal in the coolant, I think I'm up for a head job soon. Pitty, I can't afford to get it ported & a cam yet.

Cheers

Tickford cam isn't aggressive enough man, if I'm spending cash on a cam I want to get a wade cam of some sort. Should probably also bargain on a j3 chip & tune as well lol.

Cheers

So the EB has been running rough (miss) since it's been back on the road. Been digging around to work out why. Found out that petrol injectors 1 thru 4 can be unplugged when on LPG, it will keep running, but if 5 & 6 are unplugged, it will stumble & stall. Looks like the LPG injection is getting triggers from 5 & 6 injectors. I thought one of them should be injector 1? I better read the manual on the LPG injection....

I also run the code scanner over it, found a few issues with engine running test.

13 Low RPM idle check fail.

Looks like I need to see if the earth for the o2 is ok, if so, I need to try another spare I have. As far as I can tell, no vac leaks.

Cheers

Hi Mark,

It was bought off a member of these forums, I think it was Muzza. I also have another cool looking toy that I need to hookup & play with too, maybe tomorrow night, I need a night off from working on cars.

Last night was installing an engine & auto into my mates EF with him. Monday night was helping a mate fix the brakes on a trailer. The weekend was moving a FE LTD, then removing the stuffed engine & fitting in a good 250ci Xflow EFI to it. Soon we need to hookup all the gear & get that working again.....

Somewhere in all that I need to find time to work on the mighty boy too lol. Tonight is laundry & cleaning chores tho... lol.

Cheers

Been having some fun driving the Ghia around this last week, all except the idle that slowly floods itself until it almost stalls, then the ecu catches it, brings the rev's up & clears it for a bit, for the cycle to repeat lol.

Don't drive it far atm, funnily enough it runs better on LPG than on petrol too. I'm going to swap in a spare o2 sensor this weekend & see if it makes a change. I also have a feeling my fuel pressure reg might be up the creek too. Probably need to get a new one of those.

Cheers
