One more piece of my projects has been acquired, I now have a power steering pump & box for my Hz Panel Van. I still need the steering arms to suit, but that's no biggie.......

Cheers

Been a bit busy the last few days & not done much on the car's, due to my engagement party on the weekend. I have however managed to swap my o2 sensor on the Eb Ghia, running a lot better now. I also gave the LPG a retune and it too is running much better. It's almost time for a 5,000km service, which is cool because oil is on sale @ work next week, so I'll pick some up to do the job.

Been looking for power steering arms for the Hz on Ebay too. Might pickup a set soon & do the power steering conversion.

Cheers

Tonight I removed the power steering pump from the white Xr8, and pulled the fluid tank off it. I ended up needing to RTFM to work out how to dismantle it further, turns out you need a G or F clamp to press it into the body a bit, then you can remove the circlip & pull it apart. I'll do that another night soon, had to put some laundry on & tend to some domestic chores lol...

Pics soon too.

Cheers

No pics of the power steering pump yet, but I did get the exhaust fixed on thursday, turns out the middle muffler rusted out & broke it's outlet, couldn't be welded up, so a new muffler & front pipe was fit. $110 later, car is sounding better again, no exhaust rattles lol. On the way home from a mates place I bust a heater hose, didn't do any damage to the engine luckily.

Picked up a new hose from work today, if it wasn't raining the Ghia would already be fixed.... damn rain, making me tend to domestic chores again lol.

Cheers

You planning to sell any of the driveline from either of those XR8s?

That FE LTD looks awesome, any more pics?

Nope. Red one is half way thru getting straightened out, just need some good weather to finish it. The white one, just needs finishing touches on the firewall & a new sub frame (which I already have), then it's good to go for a rwc inspection. If I was to pull it's running gear, it would end up in the Ghia.

No more pics of the FE LTD atm. It's in rather good shape for an un-restored example, but it does have a little rust starting out. We need to do a few more little things soon before it can go for a RWC. It's a mates car.

Cheers

Time for a few pics I thinks. Here's one pulled from the vault.

Yes, that's a front bench seat in my torry. Going to stay that way too. Tho will get a reco.

Don't think I've posted this before, so here it is with it's new rad support just fit.

Working on the Eb Ghia saturday morning. Had to replace a heater hose that bust the other night, except it was pissing down rain, so I nosed it into the shed & worked under the door to get the job done.

It's got a minor vac leak that I'd like to get fixed tomorrow, pending getting a few other chores done first.

Cheers

I run dex III in the reco box, have noticed it has developed a slight whine in it recently, yes I also have the additive in there, and a tad over 2ltrs went into the box (dry first fill).

what happens if you dont use the additive in dex 3 trans fluid with the t5?

Good question. Not sure to be honest, but the Ford book & T5 rebuild manual both sy to use it. Its some sort of friction modifyer iirc.

It prevents foaming and stuff... Basically, without the LZ 7906 additive you'll find the actual amount of oil per 100ml is smaller. Like carbonated water... This means that surfaces with a thin coat at some crazy RPM have a little more friction and heat. Which brings me to another idea - Tap into the sump on the left and run a hose to an old oil cooler (pulled one out the front of the car when throwing away the original auto box) and put the other hose back into the right side of the T5. The way the bottom shaft spins and throws oil around should be enough to move oil through this set up. Hmmm.

A slight whine in a T5? My god, it must be in good condition. You mean no clunks, grinds, whirs or whistles right TorryGuy?

On a side note (...>....) a guy from Lower Hutt is wanting a short throw for his T5's Torana for entering into the Port Road drags this year (late November). I've always wanted to get in on those drags, but have always been too broke to warrant it. Also, it used to be a good dodgy old boys meeting, but nowadays you get a few real pro crews turning up and the fun of every day drivers and cars is diminished. NZEA's mate with the fully blown 16psi Holden VN for instance. 9" diff, 10" wide rear rims... You get the picture - This is about the level it's at now. Bit beyond the Social Welfare dependent Fiend.

Anyways, thanks for reminding me about the LZ. I should really make sure this guys drag car with the T5 has some in it before bolting the shifter on for him.

my t5 is 171000kms old and the only noise i can hear from it is the throwout bearing in the belhousing when the cars in neutral and the clutch it out, new clutch and bearing will bring it up to scratch

Yep only slight whine. Like most manual gearboxes do. It is in good condition, we put a whole bearing & syncro kit thru it, new shift fork inserts & so on. New clutch & throw out bearing too... It wasn't a cheap exercise.

Just to piss me off the heater core has let go as of yesterday....bugger! Just going to bypass it for now. Might fix it over the xmas/new year period.

bry40l -> Sounds like that has been looked after!

I feel like posting up some more pics soon....

Cheers

Well, today to piss me off, the TFI module died on the dizzy. So I purchased a new dizzy from work, and it it before I drove home. Car is running rough, timing is out a bit, but good enough to get home. If it wasn't raining I'd chuck the timing light on it, but that's a job for tomorrow....

Cheers

Yeah I've had one apart before. I'm lucky I have a TFI-SIM tester tool thanks to a member off here, It was very worth the money I spent on it. Took a matter of minutes to work out it was the dizzy & not the coil, not buying parts & hoping....

Cheers

On a happier topic, it's pics time lol.... Here's the book I have for my Ghia, The cover is from the ED Gli I wrecked ages ago. A Tad shabby but it's cool to have it. Hell, I'm even rocking the Ford Tape that come with the Ghia!

Image

Image

The newly acquired power steering parts for my Hz Pano. Just need to get the spaces & bolts to hook it up, and some new hoses are cheap enough so probably get them too.

Cheers
