I too believe that would be great, but my bank balance says otherwise. Much to my disappointment.

Been busy with Owen, working on repairing the Tx5 turbo. Here's a few pics.

Don't need to say too much, except the pics show the damaged rad support, it removed, the transplanted rad support, then welded into place & welds ground back. Then primed up. Today we bought some paint, thinners, primer & so on to do the guards & bonnet. Need to get to work on the guards soon.

A long story short is that the insurance assessor was certain the rail was bent so it was an economic write off. The rail wasn't bent so we bought it back & got the payout, now the repair job is underway.

Cheers

Your probably right there Brenton.

Yep bry40l, altho it needs a few little things (what 1988 model car that's a daily driver doesn't?), it's too clean of a car to wreck out. Too hard to get a 5spd manual Tx5 turbo, especially in the 2 tone red & grey paint job that my fiance likes so much.

Only trouble is that it's taking time away from other projects, like the Xr8's & my panel van. Ah well, not too much more to do now.

Cheers

If only this rain would piss off & let us get some more work done on the Tx5! Was supposed to strip the bonnet from the parts car & give it a steam clean today, get the prep work done for paint tomorrow. Not going to happen now.

In other news, seen Brenton & WildEB last night when I went to wash my Ghia in Kealba, after an evening I.T consult that I did. Nice surprise that was. Wish the Ghia was running good, I'd have gone for a cruise too.

Cheers

Bloody rain, eh.

I was gonna do my rad in my carport, so that I would have plenty of light and room. As soon as I walked out the door, it started raining. So, I ended up doing most of it nosed in the garage, with nothing but a 75 watt light to see by. Maybe I should stop thinking about installing flouros in the garage and actually do it lol.

those things cane too, I had an mx6 turbo 88 model before the 4 wheels steer... so the same car and it was a weapon. 2.2 turbo fwd. MX^ turbo's are selling dirt cheap now days, have you thought of grabbing one for parts?

I've done some work on the Eb Ghia "nosed" into the shed, when desperate. Can't really do that with the way the rain is beating down here atm, it just comes straight under the door.

Yep the Tx5/mx6 turbo's do move rather well for what they are, and respond well to a few mods. I have thought about a parts car, but TBH, we currently have an AT2 Tx5 Ghia hatch that we are pillaging for parts, it's a 2.2 n/a & 5spd. Pinched the rad support & bonnet off it, it's lost 2 power window mech's, rear struts, front brake pads & rotors, as well as a few other bits & pieces. It's come in handy, but there is a limit on what you can keep as spares, and currently I am at that limit with my limited storage ability.

In regards to the fluro's, rig a couple of them up in your shed, and if you can't afford to have them hard wired, just stick some extension cord ends on them so you just plug them in via extension cord. Then they are not "hard wired". I currently have 2 setup like that as I just don't see a reason to pay an electrician to hook just them up yet, there's other things to pay for first. The list is almost never ending lol.

Cheers

The mx6 I had went like the clappers but its fwd, so the torque steer put some grey hairs on my head. Now the 2 wheel steer was the way to go, but do you reckon you could manufacture some way of dropping an awd system in it? That way you could really pump some power out by simple things like twin turbo ( one small spooling up at low revs and a big motha for 3-4k+)? wasn't the tx3 awd?

4 wheel steer (just to correct your mistake there :P )

not all TX3's were AWD but there is a few still kicking around. it might take a little modding to get it all working as the TX5 is a bigger overall car but its been done before.

I thought there was an AWD version in Japan, but considering it's almost 25yo car, wouldn't be easy to find the gear. It would be much fun with AWD & say another 40kw of power.

Too many other projects on the go to think about this idea tho.

Cheers

Due to rain & work commitments, not much has happened over the last week on the Tx5 Turbo. I'm awaiting a mate to come over, then we are headed to his work to use the spray booth, finish up the bonnet & do the guards.

It's too windy to paint the rad support tho. :-(

In other news, I've picked up a set of lifters, head bolts, extractor gaskit & AU MLS head gaskit, as well as a set of gas injector bungs, so I have what I need ready for the head & gaskit replacement. I've got enough oil & coolant, filters & so on in the shed already. Hopefully send the head off for a reco with a port job by the end of next week. If funds permit, I might even get a wade cam & a J3 chip too.

Last night I went & seen the Foo Fighters play at AAMI Stadium here in Melbourne, the Foo put on a good show as always.

Cheers
