When I had a 425 Impco on my 5.0 Windsor the adaptor for a VN 5.0 fitted the intake tube perfectly. The hat I welded up from a piece of 4" exhaust tube with a sheet metal top and a 3" piece of tube into the side for the inlet.
Cost me about $10 for the hat.

Thanks for that dude. I've got the top hat already, just need this adapter. Seems nobody has what I require atm. :(

Cheers

Been busy, did a trip to Jollys because I was out that way on Saturday, managed to pickup an EA 3.9 intake hose from the TB to air box, it's close enough that I should be able to fit it with a bit of a cork or rubber reducer for the TB end, and get the Xr8 running on petrol for the moment, I need to move it and it's much easier to move it under it's own power....

Still having trouble getting an LPG adapter. Who would have thought it would be so damn hard?

Cheers

Tony, I have no idea why dude. Maybe it's something to do with the way the peddle box get's painted, only some of it get's paint. Due to robot painting? Laziness? Being a cheap a***?

ToranaGuy

its weight reduction brrooooo lol

probably since you cant see it under the dash it doesnt need to be fancy black and ford are too cheap.

My pedal box has NO PAINT AT ALL. I know this for a fact. Photos coming soon. It's ugly. But with all that weight saving you should see my quarter mile times.

Nice one dude!

In some bad news, looks like the head gasket on the Ghia is leaking again, happened on the way to work Wednesday morning. I've dropped some chemiweld into the cooling system to try solve the issue for now, there is just too much on the go to redo the top end of my engine right now, it has to wait a few months....

Cheers

Update time,

Been a bit crook the last week so not a huge amount has been done. The chemiweld has sorted the coolant leak in the head gasket for the Ghia for now. I've finished the last bits & got the Red Eb Xr8 running, only for the alternator to battery power wiring to go up in smoke lol. Time to rewire that.

I've fit a new intake gasket to the mighty boy & reset the timing, Had it running with the rocker cover off, pretty well too, so issue solved. Then dumped the contaminated oil, refit the valve cover & filled it up with oil, tried to start it & would barely run....ahhh s**t...fiddled with it for a while, then gave up & shut the bonnet.

After thinking, I know what the issue is. Ignition breakdown due to poor engine earth. The earth strap is from the valve cover to the rad support on the mighty boy. While the valve cover was off I had a temp earth strap fit between the timing belt cover to the body. Now that's gone it won't run again. ARGH! If it wasn't raining today I'd go fit it & give the boy a tune. Another day.....

Man, I need a carport so I can work in the rain, only trouble is that a permit to get one is so much screwing around it's almost not worth it, would be better to stick one up, then work under it & when the time comes that I get an order to pull it down & pay a fine, just do it lol.

Cheers

Surely you can build a temporary structure by making it "portable". This would then be non classified.

For instance - Someone living permanently in a trailer home or caravan has no issues with building regulation. You should be able to build anything you like as long as it is not fixed permanently to the ground or any structure. Alternatively you should be able to build a series of small structures (under 2m square) that don't need consents. If all these small structures don't touch each other but just happen to provide continuous cover then so be it.

You could set up a series of frames and cover with clear plastic. Put a rope at one end and call it a tent.

Now there is an idea man.... I can build a structure under 10m2 and not require a permit, that would be big enough to get the nose under & outta the rain lol....I like your idea of a "tent"...

I got the mighty boy running tonight with a slight miss, done a compression test - all ok there, vacuum test - ok, spark plugs ok, ignition ok, still has a slight miss & water building up in the oil, inlet manifold must be f**k (ie cracked). I better find my spare inlet & exhaust (pre EGR stuff) and swap it over.....

Also fired up the red Xr8 - it runs for about 30 seconds, stumbles a couple of times, picks up revs for a bit & eventually dies. Give it a little throttle & it runs fine, I wonder what the cause of that is? Brand new idle speed control motor on it, and the pipe work from TB to AFM doesn't leak. I wonder WTF I have managed to screw up?

I better pull out the workshop manual & get to reading.....

Cheers

Good luck with the eight mate. Short answer is just keep foot on the GO pedal.

XR8 - around the 30 second mark youd probably find your o2 sensors come back online? - the ECU isnt leaning mixtures etc is it?

Ive had a bit of a funny of late with the EGR - turned out to be the servo. Mind also does something weird - I have a monitor on one bank, and AFR's stay perfect, but its like the other bank just goes away. My theory is that because I actually cut the second O2 sensor while on LPG the ECU assumed it was rich? - and tried to trim it off?

Best of luck with that anyway!. Im just waiting to get this sorted so I can drop the Injection in.

Tony,

Even if I keep my foot on the loud peddle it will stumble & stall. Makes me think fuel system issues.

Nigel,

I was wondering if it wasn't something to do with the o2 sensors, so I unplugged the one that isn't cut into by the LPG mixture controller, didn't change anything. This engine ran perfect in the donor car, so I don't think the EGR is playing up.

Upon further inspection of the car, I found that I could get it to run, shut it down after a couple of seconds, then go & see if there was fuel pressure at the rail.....There was some fuel pressure at the rail. Start it up again & let it run until it stalls, check the fuel pressure at the rail - none. When I'm feeling better I'm going to change the fuel filter & fuel pump. One or both may be playing up, the car is dual fuel, and probably wasn't run on petrol often before I got it, so these items are the next to get changed.

Way too crook atm to do anything with it, battling a cold & now a chest infection, had a few days off work too, which sucks...

Cheers

ToranaGuy

My EF V8 is the same. Runs for a few seconds after starting and then stalls for no apparent reason. if you crank the key again it will run fine with out any issues.

It almost as if it just needs to get it out of it's system

Bottlejack15,

Doesn't matter how many times you try, same thing happens.

I put 20ltrs of fresh fuel in the tank before trying to get it to run, and some stabilizer as well for the old fuel, has over 1/2 a tank in it, so it's not just crappy fuel.

LPG & Petrol levels are on separate gauges. I've found a new LPG lockoff solenoid in the shed (got so much stuff it's not funny in there lol), I might look at trying to get the LPG running, see what happens, if the engine behaves the same.

Cheers

My v8 only does it when its cold and once it's got it's stall out of the way it runs fine.

I had a s**t of a time when I had my old 6 cyl Ef when it was dual fuel. It would stall and miss and just ran like a b**ch on both petrol and LPG. In the end I just ripped the LPG out.

Is your eb running a injected set up or old school set up. If its an old school set up I would check the balance pipe for leaks/damage and also drain the wax/tar out of the converter. The balance pipe in my old Ef was prone to cracking and then the replacement would collapse under acceleration. In the end though my issue was electricial related and once i cut all the LPG wiring it ran sweet as.
