Hey everyone,

After some suggestion by Fiend, and a couple other's that i should start a garage thread on my antics :!: in the garage & driveway with my toys, i decided i would. I've posted it up as no particular car, as i currently have the following car's and doing lots to them. One or two are nearing the end of what I'd like to do with them, or so i keep telling myself.

93 Eb Fairmont Ghia - Gt Mockup (my daily drive)
    86 Mighty boy Ute
    74 Lh Torana
    78 Hz Panel Van
    91 Eb Series 1 Xr8 - white
    91 Eb Series 1 Xr8 - red (Bought in 2012 to swap bits into - Reg 27-3-13)
1978 TE Cortina 6, auto, air, Goldie windback Sunroof! (drag car project for 2014?)

Plans changed & no longer have this car

    93 Eb Series 2 Xr8 (edit - swapped running gear into a straight red Eb Series 1 Xr8 2012)

My g/f also has a Tx5 turbo that i do spin the spanners on a bit, and we have the following parts car's getting stripped, an 89 Tx5 Ghia hatch & an 93 ED Gli Sedan.

Anyway, I'll post up some pics, but i guess first cab off the rank to crap on about the mods would have to be my EB Ghia - the reason i first joined formods. It was a replacement daily driver for my torry, taken off the road to fix the rear end after being hit hard.

Anyway, following mods have been done to the EB since I've bought it.

5 Speed conversion, inc manual ECU & factory manual gearbox loom
    Lpg Injection - Easyjet system
    Thermo fan install
Replaced factory premo sound with something better - a work in progress
    EF 110amp Alternator mod
    Nolathane bushes all around
    Pedders white comfort gas shocks
Kings SL springs (Swapped to ultra lows in the front in 2011)
Full Leather Seats & door trims
    XR clear front indicators
    Au clear side repeaters
    EF plug in fuse links
    Reco engine July 2013
    Wade 1673 cam

Over the years I've had to replace a number of items, as I've managed to put about 240,000kms on it over the last 6 years, such as the LSD diff, a set of brake rotors, steering rack, headlights, indicators, ball joints, windscreens, yada yada. You get that with a daily drive. It currently needs a new bonnet, haven't got around to painting up the replacement yet. I was backed into by a 4x4 & the driver didn't leave their details.

Next Toy that some of you have read about me playing with is my mighty boy. A great weird little Suzuki Kei car, but it's a ute! Mods done include:

    F8b 800 cc engine conversion
    F8b spec 4speed manual gearbox
    Ported cylinder head
    15" Mags wearing 165/45 R15 Federal Fd1 tyres
Tacho & cd player (had mono AM radio - yuk!)
    Electronic dizzy conversion
Aluminum 1275 mini radiator & custom brackets

Soon I will be fitting my Cervo Mode front bar, and I'm in the middle of a EFI conversion to the engine as well. I also have a some bits to turbocharge it, but i still need to get a few more bits. I have engineer approval for the turbo conversion, just have to get it done.

Another toy is my Hz panel Van. Been slowly playing with this one for about 7 years now. Bought as a rolling shell, I've had to collect/hoard all the bits to assemble it, that takes a long, long time.

It was originally a 6cyl column shift manual with bench seat. Not anymore. Mods

253ci v8 conversion, trimatic 3spd auto for now.
    v8 diff
    Sprint LPG parts
Converted to floor shift T bar
    Vh Commodore bucket seats
    v8 brake booster
    Nolathane bushes all round
    Gabriel gas shocks
1 ton rear leaf springs - for towing.

Needs a little more body work & then i can paint it up and do the final assembly. Been a lot of other jobs get in the way of this build, such as replacing the shed roof, which is going on in the background. The 5speed conversion on the Ghia. Rebuilding my g/f's tx5 turbo engine with her brother & dad, rebuilding the engine in my mighty boy when it died. Working on my house when I'm not working on cars.

I just had a look at the time, I've got a lot to do today & should get my a*** into gear & do it. I'll post up some pics & build stuff on the Xr8's shortly, but some of you may have already read the couple of thread's I've started in the v8 workshop.

I might also get some pics of the torry up soon too. :D

Cheers

Envy mate, thats all i can say.

I live in a concrete jungle of sydney in apartments and have a car space. Would love to have much more space, a proper garage and time to tinker and learn more like what you are doing.

Thanks dude. I couldn't live in an apartment, i had to rent one for a while for work, while i was working away from home, and it was ok, only because i had my house, shed & driveway back home with the toys. :D

My garage has taken many years to get to where it is, it's still not what i'd call a proper garage, still have much more to do in the way of work & storage space, and i always need more tools lol. But it's getting there. I'm learning a huge amount as i go, I'm an I.T consultant by day. Front yard/shed mechanic by night lol.

Cheers

Thanks dude. Your not the only one to want to see the boy get some boost! But there is parts to buy that i can't afford atm, and too many other jobs to do that i do have the tools & parts to do right now, that i should turn my attention to.

dahayes -> Thanks man. It's pretty neat, but it could be a lot neater, has a few dints & paint needs work in a couple of places, but it's still cool. Get's lots of attention anywhere i drive it, more than the GT mockup!

Cheers

Thanks BenJ!

I've got a few pics in my gallery of some of the mods i've done over the years.

I guess i should write up a bit about the alternator fitment. I still run the 3 belt EB setup. Don't have the time or money to convert to the serp belt setup, even tho i'd love to. The alternator has had the following mods done to fit it up & allow it to be adjusted as per factory ford service instructions.

# Top mounting hole tapped for m12 thread.
# M10 thread insert fit into the m12 thread - loctite also used to hold it in.
# Eb I6 alternator bracket has been ground on the bottom side (when fit to engine)
# EF 110amp alt front case has been ground back a little
# Front pulley hasn't yet been changed. Was in a hurry. Need to do this.
# Std adjustment nut & bolt. Adjustment as per EB service data.

I have found that after 10,000 kms, there is no extra wear on the belt due to the incorrect for EB pulley being fit, but i would still like to fit the correct pulley. I've got another EF 110amp alternator in the shed, i am going to mod to be a bolt in spare should i require it, and lets face it, that will happen one day, i will change the pulley on it. Unless i pick up the Xh ute serp belt bits dirt cheap. Like maybe a ute from the auctions. When i've got space to wreck one lol.

It's nice to be able to adjust the belt as per the factory procedure, yet have the extra size of the EF alternator. Handy when you have a thermo fan conversion, a amp or two drawing power & climate control. :D

Anyway, i'm going to leave this post at that, there's a pic in my gallery of the alternator in the engine bay.

Cheers

lol man. It can be cool & it can be a PITA as well, due to having to clean up the left over's from "parts cars". At least i can scrap metal some of it & get a few bucks. Once you have it cleaned up, you get to thinking......."what car do i need next to pilfer parts from"..... lol.

I just wish the space was in the back yard so i could hide it all away from everyone. But it's in the front yard so everyone see's what's going on. I'm sure there are ppl in my street that think i'm a mechanic. ha ha.

I've just come inside from working on pulling the transmission out of the ED i'm wrecking atm, it's sold pending pickup & payment for $80. Better than a punch in the face atm. I know they sell for $280 at the wreckers, so the guy is getting a bargain. But i need the $$ & i wouldn't get that much for it as scrap.

Once the tranny (lol) is out, i need to pull the steering column for the Xr8, the right front suspension arms, Z bar & maybe the sway bar as well. I'm going to keep the shocks from the ED, as they are in great shape, and if i need shocks for a RWC on the Xr8 i'll fit up the monroe's from the ED. I'm going to keep the disc rotors as well, they are so close to perfect it's not funny. Good for spares.

Anyway, better get back to it. I'll get some pics up later today. :D

Cheers

Yeahp, I hear you on the tranny. I've sold two of them for around the $100 mark, and people love me when I deliver them too. Even with my bad back I can pick one up and carry it about fifty metres on the flat or up to the second story if the stairs are nice and friendly without heavy fire doors... I have trouble carrying the six cylinder engine block around mind you ... I tried to get it outside for a degrease and a steam clean but it was about six metres further than I could be bothered moving it by myself. Maybe I should take the aux shaft out - The straw that broke the camels back perhaps?!

Anyway, I hear you.

Back yards are better than front.

I've done most of my stuff at the side of the road. The neighbours ring up the council after about two weeks of having a car with no bonnet / guards or doors...

NZEA sold his old EA auto for $1 or something similar. Bloody crazy. You can get $30 for them as scrap from the metal recyclers......

I saw an EL with column change being wrecked the other week. I almost stole the front bench seat and the shifter linkage systems......
ALMOST.

The dude arrived on time & even helped with the tranny removal as i didn't have out quite out by the time he arrived. That was great.

The EL column change & bench seat would have been good in an auto wagon, able to carry an extra passenger when required. :D

I feel buggered after removing the diff & auto, it's so hot outside atm. I'll get some pics before it get's dark, and after i've eaten tea, a lovely amount of roast vegies & roast kangaroo cooked by my g/f, i will have a vodka & get back to work. I've been drinking too much rum lately, time to move onto the vodka for a while.

Cheers

Stripping the ED - parts donor. GLI's do save lives, the lives or Xr8's lol. Working in the dirt isn't much fun, but i've got an old VH rubber boot mat i put down to lay on. :D If anyone wants parts, check my wrecking thread or PM me, i'll be getting rid of the remains later this week.

White Eb Series 1 Xr8, 5 spd, Dual Fuel. Work in progress. Bumper sitting on the front to save some space, yes space is at a premium.

Almost finished stealing parts from the GLI to finish this one off to have it ready for a rwc check. Just need to wait until it cools down today, get out the slide hammer & pull the firewall out some more. It's a slow job doing it by hand. Once that is done, i've taken the steering column from the ED GLI & will be fitting it, as the bottom bearing has copped a load by the firewall bending.

Cheers

Update time.

Got too busy with other small tasks so didn't get to work on the firewall the other day. Need to replace the rear shocks in my g/f's Tx5 turbo. I stripped the rear shocks off the Tx5 parts car, her's on the Tx5 turbo have died. Fronts were replaced with Pedders white comfort gas about 6mths ago. But bugger this rain, i can't swap them over. That means on to other tasks inside the shed that i can do in the rain.

I laid down another coat of clear on my C pillar cap for my EB Ghia - the one on the car is looking horrible with pealing clear. This one should be dry enough to fit in a day or so, will tidy up the car just that little bit. Also been putting broken interia plastics in the bin, and i harvested the middle rear seatbelt from the ED gli, to be fit into my EB Ghia, as it has been worked out i currently have the wrong rear middle seatbelt for a series 2 EB, thanks to another thread with input from BenJ. I still need to pull the parcel shelf to swap it in, as it has the hole to fit the seat belt down into it.

Anyone able to tell me what size the factory sub is? Is it an 8 or 10 inch item? I'm half thinking about fitting a sub back in that position, to either compliment my 12 in the boot or to remove the 12 for a little more boot space when i need it. I'll edit this later with a couple of pics.

Cheers

factory is a 8", tho be careful as most 8" subs wont fit, my JBL i bought needs a 10mm spacer to fit, maybe able to get away with 6-8mm if you cut a bit for the terminals tho.. the jaycar 8" apparently fits, or screw it in underneath

I've got a gas tank anyway, so i'd have to use a spacer, i have spacers on my 6x9's, so i will have to think about this one & measure up how deep a 10inch is, i might be able to make a spacer that holds it up so it fits in the hole & doesn't hit the gas tank. :D

Cheers
