Hey guys sorry for little talk lately.. haha anyhow got 3.7s installed whilst i was away at NZ. Got back went for a spin OMFG!!! Even only being able to use 3/4 throttle in first easy spins thro into 2nd.. Anyhow all was going goood until, at about 130kmph there was this lovely rattle noise.

I shut car off straight away as it was coming from front of the motor. Initally thought it was timing chain. Anyhow tilt tray back to prodyno. Started pulling it down.. an this is what we found

So as you can see all the inlet side valves have been hitting pistons. And on cylinder 6 one valve has decided to go walkies through cylinder 5 and 4 then end up in inlet manifold.

so now to work out why. Few things are on the table: VCT failed, Atomic got there clearences wrong when shaving the head and going for a massive camshaft..

There was always alittle taping noise thro inlet plenum but was informed by atomic it was echo of valve train..

Anyhow im not blaming anyone for what has happened and still have a good relationship with both work shops. Everyone makes mistakes right?

Anyhow head is back down at atomic. And still looking at why it failed. They have said they will cover all costs of buying a new head and redoing all the head work along with new valves and head gasket.

So at this stage we are on the hunt for a nice solid bottem end which is proving to be hard to come by as everything aftermarket is for turbos :( dont want to lose that compression..

Future:Built bottem end, atomic billet oil pump, some giggle gas :),coil over suspension.. Not sure what im going to do in the way of transmission.. really overy the 6speed auto playing up.. maybe a manual conversion or a fully manualized auto :)

Also i cracked one of my 20s :( so ill be using a set of 18s on until i find somthing i like.

18x8.5 front 18x9.5 rear :)

s**t Trav, not good but how the hell does a valve head break off and move from No.6 then to 5 & 4 then back to inside the inlet manifold? that is a mystery...........

That is the second Atomic Engine i have read on the forums that has failed not long after being fitted - the other one was vermiltina's project EA

BUT ATOMIC are ALWAYS very good on their warranty - too many things can go wrong with an engine BUT you can always rely on their warranty.

Bit of Bad Luck Trav but it all can be fixed

Going to give Prodyno a call today and see if we know anymore and a time line on when ill have the car back.. Also picking up a car for the missus today. Ford Fiesta Zetec 2010 17,00ks for $16,00.. not a bad deal i thought..

Hey mate it really depends on how far you want to go.. Stage 3 atomics are a good all rounder but if you want that bit more and more of a lumpy factor stage 4s are the way to go.. Keeping in mind stage 4s will require valve springs aswell..

Any bigger then atomics stage 4 requires head work to complement the cams.. Otherwise it's pointless ..

Also depending on where you want most of yur power.. My car doesn't really get over the cams until 3500 rpm before it really smooths out and starts to pull

When i checked out Atomics Website they have Stage 3 and 4 at the same prices. Though all the numbers don't make sense to me. 3500RPM doesn't seem to bad though to get the power a bit more instant what would be better to go.
