Troyman, good to hear you're putting some more boost through that AU engine! I'm following closely and will probably go the same way.

Sounds like you really need some charge air cooling! Should be able to pick one of those w2a kits from Tim soon...they look good. I suspect this will change the whole feel of the car as timing could be advanced everywhere, and would make the most of the extra boost you're pushing through.

I'm slowly chipping away at setting mine up at the moment. Modified the top radiator hose yesterday to allow more room for 3' pipe across front of engine. I'm hoping you'll decide to go the same way...will be helpful for exchanging ideas.

As mentioned previously, water injection would certainly be a cheaper and easier way to run the boost you want without detonation.

Good luck, enjoying reading your build.

Joe

Sorry guys, Water injection is a poor substitute and a band aid solution. It was used extensively in the 70's and 80's for blow through carb set ups and has know place on a modern EFI motor. Decent A2A or W2A is the only way to go. It costs more but the benefits well and truly make up for it.

what i would like to get a hold of is a intercooler i can fit without to much re modyfing, maybe one of those ea ait intercoolers..??(probably no chance)
or something small like a std skyline intercooler?.. but i would prefer to find something that has a 3" inlet and outlet..enough to fit on one side so i can keep the airconditioning all std..

the interesting thing is there seems to be no sign of pinging up top when boost is at its highest..
it only pings around 3500rpm..
i have been playing with the tune removing timing bit by bit but around 3500rpm,
but its a little difficult to keep taking the car out for a thrashing without getting busted for speeding..lol
so for now it will have to do untill i get some one to re tune it...

Everyone says that, but the ideal setup is intercooler + WI in my opinion! Tuners who don't understand how it works (including my own) and won't tune accordingly always call it a band aid solution. Whatever you can get with an intercooler, add well setup water injection and tune accordingly and you'll get more. I've been amazed at its effectiveness on my car.

If WI had no place on modern efi engines then recent turbo rally cars wouldn't have been using it. Companies like aquamist exist because these systems have a place on forced induction. Having said all that, I'm currently piecing together a w2a cooler for my vehicle. There's definately things that only an intercooler can do (a WI only vehicle still sucks in hot air initially before it becomes effective). Off boost driving would definately be better with an intercooler.

Anyway, whatever way you go troyman I look forward to hearing the results. Small air to air could go ok.
