It was used extensively in the 70's and 80's for blow through carb set ups and has know place on a modern EFI motor. Decent A2A or W2A is the only way to go. It costs more but the benefits well and truly make up for it. Everyone says that, but the ideal setup is intercooler + WI in my opinion! Tuners who don't understand how it works (including my own) and won't tune accordingly always call it a band aid solution. Whatever you can get with an intercooler, add well setup water injection and tune accordingly and you'll get more. I've been amazed at its effectiveness on my car. If WI had no place on modern efi engines then recent turbo rally cars wouldn't have been using it. Companies like aquamist exist because these systems have a place on forced induction. Having said all that, I'm currently piecing together a w2a cooler for my vehicle. There's definately things that only an intercooler can do (a WI only vehicle still sucks in hot air initially before it becomes effective). Off boost driving would definately be better with an intercooler. Anyway, whatever way you go troyman I look forward to hearing the results. Small air to air could go ok. Joe, would you say a2a setup is cheaper than a w2a setup, and by how much roughly? PM me if you rather than bringing this thread OT.

i took the car on a bit of a cruise on saturday afternoon,
first warm weather run since the supercharger was fitted and it ran good, no pinging since i removed a bit of ignition timing.. but an old issue has poped up again. . on hard high rev gear changes the clutch pedal is staying on the floor untill the revs drop..last time it was doing it it was a broken engine mount and the lift of the engine was kinking the clutch cable holding the clutch in.. the thing is there is no engine mount problem this time.. so i need to work out what is causing it??(or just dont drive it hard lol) anyway today i went to the car and there was a puddle of coolant on the ground.. after a bit of investigation the seal on the bottom of the radiator tank is stuffed or the tank it self is cracked... but i guess its not a bad run for a second hand radiator i brought 4 years ago for $60..lol so tomorrow im off to buy a brand new one.... |

Another radiator from the wreckers wouldnt go astray too. actually i have got a spare radiator laying around that holds water that could be used in case of an emergency, although it looks like the core has been repaired.. and i dont want to fit the second hand one just to have it start leaking in a month or so.. im a little p****d because i just changed the coolant the other day when i had the radiator out when i changed the harmonic ballancer.. oh well a new one will be the way to go considering the warmer weather is on its way... |

picked up the new radiator this morning from superior radiators..
Attachment: DSC01524.JPG i also had to replace the lower radiator hose as for some reason the hose had gone hard like plastic. this hose was rock hard and turned to a fragile plastic like substance, i couldnt get it off the old radiator .. believe it or not the hose was only 12 months old (maybe old aftermarket stock or something?) Just as a matter of interest Troyman, what did the radiator cost you? The Genuine one is like $358.00. If you need a NEW hose, I can get for you or if you need it quickly, come down to work and we will look after you on price.

naa.. from the amount of bad luck ive had with alloy radiators in the past.... i opted for the copper core..3 year waranty... compared to the alloy ones 12 month waranty..
i know the cooling properties are far better but my car doesnt really run hot... |

todays update!!
took the ed to the fordmods southcoast dyno day.. and it appears to have lost 8 rwkw..?? meh!! a new exhaust + more boost - 4 deg timing to stop pinging = 186.1 rwkw it really does need t0 be tuned!! this is from the ems data log... the afr was @ 5,175rpm 7.542psi 13.000afr.. and at 5,797rpm 10.443psi 14.400 afr.. here is a clip on the dyno... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJm7dzZzN5o |

today ive been doing a little investigating into the data log i did on the dyno yesterday..
and im a little shocked at the intake temps. while on the dyno under boost, my air intake temp was higher than the water temp.. @10psi the intake temp was @90 deg c. at the same time the water temp was 85deg c.. now im doing the math and i had removed 4 deg from the ignition timing map to be safe.. but i forgot that the ecu temp compensation was also on. i had it set to remove 5% from 40 deg c to 80 deg c, then removing 10% timing @ 80deg c and higher.. not thinking that the air temp was going to get that high.. so overall i had removed about 6 deg of timing.. atleast it diddnt ping..lol... i think an intercooler is now on the to do list ... |

Holy crappola batman.......Mine never got over 44C during tuning last thursday. Make a FMIC a priority. Find a smallish one and i'll make it fit for ya.......Pretty sure an 200SX one will do the job. Maybe go to 2 1/2" tubing???? Cheers Daz

thanks dazz.
i got to do something...lol... i think finding space for the cooler and where to run piping is going to do my head in a bit as i have the aircon condensor and receiver dryer infront of the radiator.. i think a small 200sx or factory skyline one might fit to one side... i might go outside and do a bit of measuring..... |
