im still not sure where to mount the coil pack??

it wont fit on top of the rocker cover (hits the bonnet)..

now there are 2 more options?
mount the coils above the fuel rail/manifold?

or mount them on the drivers side shock tower?
then there could be a heat issue which means i need to either put the heat sheild back on the extractors or make up a sheild for the coils??

im still thinking on mounting it in the factory position??
im open to other ideas!!!

Troy, I like it above the fuel rail.

Plenty of air for cooling, easy access for you, and if one didn't know better, it looks like it belongs in there.

Cheers
BenJ

I agree with benj. Keep the coil away from unecessary heat as much as you can.

Hiya TROYBRO.

That area above the fuel rail looks like the bee's knee's... Unfortunately mate that area does get very hot. The rocker cover at that point can go past 100 degrees Celsius... The BBM runners just below there get to 80 easily and your going to block any airflow by putting the coils there, so those figures could actually increase once you install the coils at that point.

The factory position is a lot cooler if that's your major concern.

It is possible for you could copy my design and placement with your intake pipe. This "Fiend placement" still uses factory length leads from EF and it's only side effect is that you should be slightly careful when filling window wiper bottle... Chopping a short length from your 3" intake pipe near the firewall to suit?
Image
Am sure anyone who was nifty with welding pipe of that nature wouldn't charge you an arm and a leg. And I know you're good with fabrication - I did manufacture seven or eight firewall strengtheners by copying your design almost exactly by the way...

feind,
i think your right about placing it over the fuel rail/bbm as we know heat rises!!
i like where yours is mounted but i dont really want to re do the pipe work again,
im thinking that it could be cooler on the drivers side shock tower with a heat sheild around it..
due to the fact that heat does rise i might be better off putting it where ford intended it to be as i think it would be cooler and access is a little difficult but its still not as bad as having to remove the supercharger and bracket to get to the dizzy.

today i picked up my 3 coil igniter to run coil packs!
Attachment:
DSC01550.JPG

to find out that ems igniters dont have tacho outputs any more. :( ....
bummer.. the tacho is something that is definatly needed
another option i dont want to loose....
as it turns out the ed cruise control needs a tacho signal to opperate.
this means i will have to loose one of the ecu outputs to use for the tacho...
so i now have to decide what function i wish to loose??
the stinger has 4 outputs.
this is what i have connected to the ems..
1-fuel pump ..(i need this)
2-isc ..(i prefer to keep this)
3-bbm switch..(i think i might have to ditch this function)..i dont know if its a good or bad idea??
4-thermo fan...(i want/need this..)

oh well the fun is about to begin, re wireing and mounting coil packs and module..

Hey Troy,

As i would expect your motor is coming on song by the time the bbm is supposed to switch over, so i would get rid of it, you wouldnt even notice the runners changing with the blower......

Cheers

If you use the ECU output for the BBM, have you thought about gutting the BBM?

i drove it tonight with the bbm on short(high rpm)
the only thing different is the throttle responce is a little poor under 2000rpm..
but on the plus side ive loaded the original timing map(the one that caused all the pinging at 3g)
and due to the fact that the bbm is now on short runner full time..there is no more pinging at all!!
so it now needs more timing down low...
its the same old story.... i know...IT NEEDS TO BE TUNED PROPERLY!!

yes im thinking on removing the bbm butterflies and shaft..
if i gut the bbm i obviously need to plug the shaft hole with something..
im thinking on tapping a thread and using a bolt to plug it up??

Well, that'd work alright. No problem with that... Just a quick idea though --- How about "throwing away" the top half of the BBM and chopping the lower half just below the aforementioned shaft holes and then put a box of metal over the whole lot and calling it a plenum. You could then re-arrange your throttle position to suit an air to air intercooler setup? Ho hum... I suppose, having money, you'd just look at a pre-fabrication plenum like Snort produce...

Ah, what the hell. Sorry Troy. Ideas are my middle name. Practicalities aren't.

I went through ~2 or 3 coil packs with them in the stock position with the turbo, it now sits between rocker cover/manifold and its been good since.

hmm ok...
did you mount yours over the fuel rail like in my previous pic??

now that makes me re think the mounting point again...
im actually up to the point of mounting the coils and running the wires from the igniter to the coils..
