yep its the std ed column..
but unfortunately the ef steering wheel don't fit..
what ive done is dis assemble the ed combination switch and an ef one as well..
then fitted the ef arms into the ed combination switch.( springs and ball bearing flying in all directions)lol
now after dis assembling an au one i've found the arms are the same shape as ef.
so as you can see the au arm fits as well..
but as i don't like the factory ed cruise wheel i put an aftermarket switch with the resistors from the factory set/decelerate buttons into the column shroud instead..
but i now want to go further and use the au steering wheel cruise buttons..

Thanks and I will have to get an AU switch then try to add it to MiniSmurf's Mont :D

Still looking for a steering wheel to fit.....

Either drill the wheel to suit or drill and tap the Momo boss kit.
Then the bosskit has both lots of holes and if you find a wheel later on and want a change you dont have to redrill a wheel again. Everything should just bolt straight on.

well today consisted of pulling the steering wheel back off to try drill the wheel to except the momo oss kit..
it turns out thats a no go at this stage as the factory momo boss kit is about 1" shorter than the aftermarket one i have.. which puts the wheel too close to the indicator/wiper control arms :( ..

so for now i just chopped into another column shroud to fit the set/dec switch instead of the old one which previously had the both switches.

and neatly back on the car..

time for an up date..

late this afternoon my new cam arrived. :)
its a wade au1645 which is the au equivilant of the e series to the 977b..
here are the specs..
timing adv.
in open=20 btdc in close=66atdc
ex open=63 bbdc ex close=23atdc
cam lift..in 284 ex 284
adv duration..in 266 ex 266
duration@050..in 205 ex 205
valve lift in.512 ex .512
lobe phase 114...

so ive just spent the last 2 1/2 hours changin the cam..
as ive done it a few times with e series its nothing new, except
ive found that the au uses steel lifter retainers instead of the hard plastic types used in e series..
Attachment:

Attachment:
DSC01606.JPG

so anyway i re fitted the lifters without the retainers due to the exra shims..
also fitted the venea gear.

the car started and ran reasonable, no lifter or chain noise.. verry smooth idle considering!!!
but due to the slight drop in manifold vac it has buggered what was left of the tune in the ecu..
its running a bit rich down low and has a slight surge at and between 2000-3500 rpm under load,
i put this down to the fuel map now running different due to the difference in manifold vac..
but on the up side the engine really wants to rev now..lol
i have this huge urge to up my rev limiter to ??? i dont know???? say 6500 rpm..
anyway hopfully i can modify the tune enough to drive it to koala park all ford day without using 40 ltrs per 100kms... lol

Good choice of cam.

Ford Mods members are heavily supporting those Wade fella's! One day they should do some sort of a prize competition or something... Or maybe the thousands they spend each year on keeping their banner on this site is enough.....

i agree
out of the 3 different popular brands of cams ive used in the 4ltr..
so far i think wade is the winner, engine is quiet, idle is pretty good considering and the power is pretty good all round..especially up top..lol

Not a bad choice of cam at all mate, would definately go nicely with a bit of boost. Will be interesting to see how much it can pull on the dyno once its re-tuned

its hard to say how much of a gain there is atm ??
it still has the same low rpm drivability as it had before but hits harder from 3000rpm up,
i can feel its much stronger up top and wants to go past the current rev limit..

i want to raise the limit but not sure how much more boost and rpm the au bottom end can take?

Heaps mate... The AU bottom end will take it - Just slaughter it and replace it. It'll give you something to do.

I hear the bottom end will handle it Troy. The Raptor would cark it sooner than the bottom end. Can you up the rev limiter to 6000rpm?

Id be careful pushing it that far until you know what your AFR's are doing too.
