I would look at doing something similar with the lane but I will need to work out getting around the ABS unit in the way.
Nice work but Troy. Looks like you have given me another reason to be laying under the car tomorrow looking around......bastard!

looks good troy. I have thought about doing this myself but I think the charcoal cannister is currently right in the way of getting a 3" pipe to the area I'd like. I really wont know until I get the front bar off to have a good look.

funny enough, it has all been returned to how it was..
while the thought of cold outside air is good, but for some reason the car lost huge amounts of throttle responce. maybe the extra bends or the flex hose was causing some kind of restriction??? |

well that sux. What about maintaining the pipework to that area but creating more of a CAI to direct flow to your pod instead?

Troy, that ribbed flex hose will be causing a big restriction. Here's a long way around describing why but here goes anyway! I had a very similar ribbed bend directly pre-supercharger. My idle, light cruise, etc was pretty good also. I then mucked around with a few 'freer flowing' pre-SC bends, and came up with what I have now, which is 90 degree silicone bend cut on a slightly funny angle (to fit). It's a very smooth bend, as is my whole intake pre-SC. Fitting this resulted in greater responsiveness, but also caused my idle and light cruise to surge and get rough. Don't ask me why...I'm not an afr/lambda/ecu expert....but it definately did (I document all these things at the time). This was the only adjustment I made before the poor engine behaviour. It seems the freer flow of intake air pre-SC upset my idle and light cruise. I've run it like this for 6months. Fast forward to last week, and I fitted up my w2a intercooler (pump not yet wired in). In effect I added a restriction to the intake. Immediately my idle is smooth again (and higher - from about 650rpm up to 950rpm), and light cruise is nice again. The restriction seems to have settled everything down. Responsiveness interestingly is barely different, but that may due to the cooler autumn air. I'd suggest that if you got a smooth free-flowing bend pre-SC, you'll get the best of both worlds - responsiveness + cold air benefits. Those huge pipe ribs must cause a lot of turbulence and hence air restriction. By the way, I seem to recall something along the lines of one eg. 90 degree bend causes a restriction in air flow the equivalent of 7m of straight pipe (don't quote this...its a rough recollection)! Smooth flowing bends, and continuous bends (not asking air to change direction on itself), is super important for engines. Good luck! Joe

Is an AU going to be enough of a change if thats what your looking for? Considering you had the Series 3 au engine, Maybe opt for a 5L option. Is it time to venture into the B series, thou it seems a shame to leave your extensive knowledge of the E series to waste.
Cheers.
