i normally dont get other people to work on my car but unfortunatly due to leg and lower back injuries i cant do as much as i could before.
but i think i could trust cms but unfortunatly this has happened.
the head and labour is warranted but the bottom end isnt.
i guess its a risk you take when you try to extract as much power as possable from a 15 year old bottom end..

thats it troyman as i said before, you throw new parts in it makes the old parts worse. specially with the engine in mind. i think if your serious get yourself a run around car, a good mobile stool and an engine stand, and do it yourself, providing you have the knowhow, although it is pretty straight forward for anyone with mechanical knowledge, and a hell of alot cheaper than paying 60+ an hour for labour.

Well you could just get an EF and associated ecu/coilpacks etc and ditch the dizzy altogether.
Didn't EF's have the best bottom end bar the AU?

wouldn't have to worry about the aux shaft again.

Wish someone would write a tute of how to graft an AU ecu into an EL dash and harnesses... then we could all have sequential injection, AU coilpacks and potentially VCT.

yea thats possable but trying to find an ef with less than 200.000kms seems to be a bit difficult..
and if was going ef with coil packs i would just go au..

but in saying that my ed is 6th month 94 and actually has a ef block and head with dizzy from factory..

What is wrong with EF coil packs (other than they're a b**ch to get to when they break)? Does the AU ECU drive the EF engine? Think the EF ECU can drive an AU, but you loose a few things?

I have trouble working out why all you guys love the EL setup at the expense of coils. Seems like if you all dumped your dizzy's and used coils you'd still have serviceable aux shafts?

What is a TAFE course? Can't you drop Narelle off and drive back to work on your motor and then go pick Narelle up again later?

the reason we use el ecu and dizzy is the el ecu plugs straight into ea/eb/ed loom so you get the features of the bbm plus with a dizzy you can advance the ignition timing to get more responce from the engine especially with performance cams...

a tafe is like university but not as intense..(school for adults to get a trade)..

i could drop her of but her tafe times conflict with my general work and other appointment times..

In the NF and EL I looked at, The ECU to engine part of the loom was seperate from the dash and other looms..

Is that the same in the AU?

Seems like it in theory wouldn't be that hard to swap in an AU S1 (smartlock) ECU and engine loom and all the bits and bobs associated with it. Then you'd get the economy associated with the AU without any loss of power and as mentioned earlier, potentially the full VCT effect.

I don't know much about AU's to be honest, but from memory they use that bus standard allowing you to hook up ScannerPro and see what's happening too..

yea i like doing things that are a little different..
it was $600 :) .
i think i should have done this instead of spending all that money on the other engine.
so this is au conversion number 2....

ive also done a fair bit of checking where it comes to the aux shaft ect.
im going to use the gear from the au dummy/oil pump drive on my dizzy to ensure the gear is the same one that it has had its whole life..

i think its because the wreckers around here have s**t loads of au engines..
but try find a ef/el engine with the same kms is near impossable.
