just a little update.
the water pump s**t itself today thankfully there not that hard to change... and after driving it around for a few days now the engine is running good. its very very smooth and pulls good in the upper rev range much better than the previous engine! today after changing the water pump i also connected the vct to the output of the bbm signal and its now really torquey down low and still pulls strong in the upper rev range. i could leave it this way but i think the vct needs to switch a little earlier (3200 rpm instead of 3800rpm) as the vct seems to respond a bit slower than the bbm. and by the time the cam timing changes its around 4200rpm so i think i can get better results with a rpm switch.. more updates in a few days when i fit a rpm switch |

I know it's better than the ED motor.. but how does it compare to the AU motor in the gold EA before the aux shaft went? Guess what I'm asking is how much difference does the VCT engine make over normal?

Guess what I'm asking is how much difference does the VCT engine make over normal? quite a bit actually! it has more torque and the power is stronger all the way to 5500rpm.. |

today i went out and got a jaycar rpm(frequency switch) kit..
took about 2 hours to put it together.. Attachment: DSC01275.JPG and a few hours later Attachment: DSC01277.JPG now i just got to fit it to a small plastic box, connect it up to the vct, adjust it to about 3000rpm.. and see how it goes.. nice work there mate,
iv got a quick question for you. a mates of mine was talking to a wrecker today about putting a vct into his ef and they said they hadnt done one yet but there was an issue with a solonoide that ment there would be an issue with the oil pumping to the head? have you had any such issues and if so how have you over come them? cheers

Cheers for that im just curious is all. after seeing you tech doco I was impressed but did not think it was somthing I wanted to do. BenJ wrote: Well done Troy. Hurry up, get it hooked up, and come and take me for a ride would ya? Cheers BenJ well its currently hooked up to the bbm signal and its pretty torquey and has great pulling power up to about 3200rpm. but as i posted before its still strong up top but i think it will be better when the rpm switch is connected so the cam can change at lower rpm... i should have it conected to the rpm switch by friday providing i assembled the kit correctly..lol.. |

well the rpm switch is now connected and the vct switches over at 3000 rpm and it seems to be spot on..
the switch over is much better compared to when it was connected to the bbm signal. because the bbm doesnt always switch at 3800rpm as the ecu decides using rpm vs load vs throttle position.. so with the rpm switch it will switch over at 3000rpm no matter what! which is good for light to mid acceleration using rpm.. ive now mounted the rpm switch in a small plastic box and mounted it up under the passenger footwell. its probably the best and cheapest mod ive done so far..
