{USERNAME} wrote: nice work there mate, iv got a quick question for you. a mates of mine was talking to a wrecker today about putting a vct into his ef and they said they hadnt done one yet but there was an issue with a solonoide that ment there would be an issue with the oil pumping to the head? have you had any such issues and if so how have you over come them? cheers the vct head has a oil line that runs from a fitting where the oil pressure sender goes.. so if he wants to put the vct head on his ef and use it he just needs to get the oil feed line aswell. and if he wants to put the whole engine in the oil line should be there and already connected... |

Cheers BenJ well its currently hooked up to the bbm signal and its pretty torquey and has great pulling power up to about 3200rpm. but as i posted before its still strong up top but i think it will be better when the rpm switch is connected so the cam can change at lower rpm... i should have it conected to the rpm switch by friday providing i assembled the kit correctly..lol.. |

well the rpm switch is now connected and the vct switches over at 3000 rpm and it seems to be spot on..
the switch over is much better compared to when it was connected to the bbm signal. because the bbm doesnt always switch at 3800rpm as the ecu decides using rpm vs load vs throttle position.. so with the rpm switch it will switch over at 3000rpm no matter what! which is good for light to mid acceleration using rpm.. ive now mounted the rpm switch in a small plastic box and mounted it up under the passenger footwell. its probably the best and cheapest mod ive done so far.. hi guys
well i got bored and decided to start smoothing out the raised sections on the rocker cover.. its a bit of work and fairly time consuming but i think its looking good.. so far ive just smoothed out the front half.. but once ive done the rest i might get the super smooth paper and polish the bits to a mirror finish... maybe?? ive been fidling with the old engine today and decided to pull the new head off the smokey ed block and look at the bores..
it doesnt look as bad as i thought the bores are kind of shiny and the cross hone markes are just visible.. and the clean edges around the top of the pistons kind of makes me think the cleen spots are from oil leaking past the rings?? there is no lip on the bores or movement in the pistons.. what do you guys think?? here are some pics... Hmmmm, interesting.
From a theoretical perspective, regardless of how the oil came to be in the cylinder, wouldn't the edges end up like that due to the excess lubricant on the cylinder wall? BenJ

yea i guess so..
but after looking at the head everything seem to be ok all the valves have stem seals.. so unless the head gets pulled down i dont thing i can tell... on the up side ben i went to the mitre10 50% off sale at 7 hills and got my self a 9 piece set 3/8 drive impact socket set with 10mm to 19mm for $10 and a 10 piece t handle allen key set for $10.. |

nice score on the tools.
id be pulling the pistons out to see how the rings are. maybe you snapped a few but not bad enough to create scoring in the bores. i guess if you pull them out you can eliminate or pinpoint the issue. |

Hi Troy, How is the ED going? Im buying a VCT engine next week for my lane, and was just wondering if you had any pics of where you wire up the VCT on the head?
Also are you using a E series bell housing? I know of the bottom 2 bolts not lining up. Just was courious to see what you where using. Cheers Josh |

hi
the ed is still running sweet... im using the factory vct plug and wire..whuch is the same plug as the au injector plug.. ive got it running to a relay and the rpm switch troggers the relay.. ill make a diagram later on if you like.. and yea im using the e series bellhousing as au manual ones are pretty rare.. |
